Very helpful tips. Is this chevron paper in your store?
No, but if you email me, I’ll send the details. adrienne@aboutmurals.ca
That’s not a putty knife and using plastic as a straight edge is no good as the knife cuts into it.
You are correct! If you go too fast, you can definitely cut into the plastic smoother. But if you go slow, it’s usually not a problem. And if your knife does cut into the plastic, I think it’s worth the few bucks it costs to replace it, to get a nice finish.

Hi I done some wallpapering last night, and came downstairs this morning,to find the extra but if wallpaper at the top of the wall sticking to the ceiling abit as its now dry🙈 I might mess the paint on the ceiling abit,,but will have to touch up with paint after,,,any tips?
@@Dsinkz you can try to wet the wallpaper that is on the ceiling to get it off easier. Let the water sit on the paper for at least a couple minutes, and re-wet it if you need to, before taking it off of the ceiling. If you need to paint the ceiling, wait until the wallpaper is dry, and then try painters tape in a small section to ensure you don’t get paint onto the wallpaper…but also to make sure the tape doesn’t ruin the front of the paper. Let me know how it goes!
@aboutmurals Hi I went the ceiling a few times and got rid of most of the paper,,then wired for it to dry repainted where needed,,I also followed your procedure with trimming the wallpaper with a putty skimmer and blade,, thanks for the advice and video info,👍

hello there :) im about to hang a wallpaper, which will be a feature wall in our hallway. searching the net for advise, i came across your videos and i love the way how you explain and show different techniques and ways for different scenarios- fabulous ! i will have 3 obstacle on the wall... a door frame... 2 spotlights and wooden ceiling beams.i suppose do i need to tackle these things in a specific way, or can i apply certain tips and ways from any of your videos ? any advise would be very much appreciated !! :) many friendly greetings from denmark
Oh, hello from Canada! You might be my first international comment! You can deal with the obstacles, one by one, as you go. When you hang a panel, deal with the tallest obstacle first and work your way down the wall. For example, you can cut around the wooden ceiling beams first, then tackle a socket lower on the wall on the same panel. I don’t have any videos on cutting around doors or lights yet, but this one might help with the wooden ceiling beams: th-cam.com/video/EqW85Ve7brc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=z5cytuuYKXPTWZGi Let me know how it goes!

Good tip for do-it-yourselfers, marking the paper length to fold at the toilet tank. Depending on the clearance, I snip or cut around the pipe with a scissors or a single edge blade knife in a star pattern. It helps the paper collapse around the pipe. I find no need for perfection or trimming around the pipe if there is a beauty ring.

How to install with an angle wall that is not plumb and the wall paper is a running pattern...😢
@@raykarlton3545 hi Ray! Do you mean the ceiling has an angle - starts high and comes down low?
I came across your channel and was wondering if you could share what to do with hiding a wallpaper seam. The wallpaper is from Serena & Lily and where the paper meets, there is no pattern so it is white and appears to have separated so slightly creating a visible seam since it’s been 6 years. Any tips on what I can do?
@@MarybethHolzer-r8k Hi Marybeth! There could be two reasons you’re seeing the seam. The first is that the seams are coming off the wall, casting a shadow. You can re-stick the wallpaper at the seams using this technique: How to Repair Wallpaper Seams that are Open, Lifting or Peeling Off! (aka Sticking Back Wallpaper) th-cam.com/video/EyMTOTpGMPk/w-d-xo.html If that doesn’t work, you can trying painting the seams with some white craft paint. Do a test in an inconspicuous area (or on a scrap) first. Here is the technique, although it’s with dark paint: How to Hide Wallpaper Seams After Installation th-cam.com/video/zI2qBooTlbI/w-d-xo.html
Thank you! They are not coming off the wall at all. If I try the craft paint, I just worry that the paint will stand out or not match the wallpaper color. Is that the only solution?

I have been watching a ton of "How To Wallpaper" videos. Yours was *by far* the most helpful. Here's why: - I could hear you clearly, because you took the extra time to do a voiceover - Probably because you chose a voiceover, viewers got concise information rather than a real time / stream of consciousness type of instruction. - You used simple tools I own or could purchase inexpensively. For some reason a laser level seems a bit intimidating when I'm already trying to master a new skill. - You rolled/brushed the paste on the wall. I've seen this approach demonstrated by a British wallpaper manufacturer, but it give me confidence that this will work when I see a pro working in the field do this. Many of the pros making videos are pasting the paper and booking...again, I'm looking for the most simple way to install my first wallpaper project. - Not sure why this did not occur to me, but when I saw you move around the room holding up the roll of wallpaper, that was super helpful! It's an incredibly easy way to see where the seams will be. - Your corner explanation was easy to understand. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP 🙂
@@kimeeegngarden4887 oh my gosh, thank you for such a thoughtful comment! You got this! 💪🏻

Hi Adrienne my house is stuck in the 80s; which means my bathroom is too! With that being said, it’s very old wallpaper and it has been curling and detaching from the wall for about 10 years now and I find that it’s time to start trying to find a way to fix it instead of look at the eyesore that it has become. My question is: would you still recommend this technique for this type of wallpaper with as much damage as it has; or is there something else that you would recommend? Also, would a hair dryer work instead of a heat gun? I don’t really have the means to get my hands on a heat gun at this time.
@@maryzabransky5589 ahhhh…well leave decor long enough and it comes back into style! 😝 Yes, you can try this technique on larger curling panels, but instead of seam repair glue, you might want to try a tub of actual wallpaper paste. If you’re on a budget, you can try a powdered paste and mix it yourself. I’m not sure about the blow dryer, but it can’t hurt to try. Let me know if it works!
I may be missing the point here, but why use overlap seams when you don't need to? I would have butt jointed the majority of those seems, and only used overlaps when the paper needed straightening say, after going around a corner...I have just done a feature wall with a chimney breast, and "lost" the two overlaps I needed in the internal corners...There was no need to double cut them and the overlap can't be seen from the room. With regards, scrapping off the paste to re use, I much prefer to use proper high grab seam adhesive as edges can lift when using normal paste...
@@peterevans8194 hi Peter! The last 1/4” of a panel is re-printed on the first 1/4” of the next panel, so if you butt seam the wallpaper, you would have the pattern showing up twice. With this wallpaper, your technique isn’t possible… but it’s definitely a thought for other types of wallpaper. And yes, you can use other types of paste too. This is a budget friendly option that I shared. Also, this wallpaper is removable and if you use the paste from scraps, you can ensure the removability later. Other paste might not offer that option. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas with the community! 🙏🏻
@@aboutmurals Thanks for that, I have need used wallpaper with pattern reprinted in such a way and I can see your method would indeed be needed to get rid of those ugly overlaps....

@@dawnruiz3177 Dawn, it’s my pleasure! I was thinking of making a video specifically about hanging around windows. Did you have any more questions that I could possibly answer in that type of video?
I have used this type of cutters for many years in my work environment and never used the above 4 methods, to time consuming. The 5th method was almost the same I have used, sliding the blade back so only one segment sticks out, flip the knife around so that the slider faces downward towards the bench at an angle and just press firmly downwards. Hey I am purchasing some wallpaper and i have the choice of pre pasted & unpasted . I am doing a kids bathroom. Do you have any advice on which is the best wallpaper for a bathroom? I am considering doing the ceiling as well
@@Basickitch Hi! I would say unpasted (paste the wall…not paste the paper) is easier for a ceiling than prepasted, which can get heavy.
Hi. Do I need to Prime my wall first? It’s painted in an eggshell finish but I took the builder grade closet racks out and had to patch and sand quite a few holes. Not sure if I can apply right over that.
@@ItzShannyBayB06 hi! Regular latex paint is fine to wallpaper over as long as it’s been dried for at least 21 days. I don’t recommend hanging over latex primer though. Wallpaper won’t stick to fresh compound so you need to paint over those little patched holes. Check the Wallpaper manufacturers instructions as well, because they may recommend a certain kind of primer.

If you're installing a mural and can't make sure the seam is between the pipes for example how do you make these cuts?
@@Fatherdowling hang the wallpaper up until the pipe, then make a vertical cut from the bottom of the wallpaper (along the centre of the pipe) until you hit the wall. Then “wrap” the wallpaper around the pipe (using star cuts) and you need to join the two sides of the wallpaper back together again under the pipe. I hope my written explanation is clear…it’s hard to explain without showing. I’ll do another video at some point showing this technique.
