For your info , its not just you, even locals if they really have no money for meals, just ask other locals , definitely some body will buy food for them. I guarantee you that. They might even give you some extra money for later meals.

In Malaysia it is a normal thing when we had gathering , or event..or receiving guest...at least "bihun goreng* is a must together with coffee or tea..and additional kueh muih will be a bonus😃🥰

Sooo truee, several times I bought fruits from street vendors and only cash was accepted, I asked for other local buyers's help by transfering them then help me pay. They paid for me without hesitation and didnt need my transfer. So kind they were, while they did not look rich and just bought a modest quantity for themselves. <3
