A Feminist Reading of James Baldwin's The Fire Next Time | Part I Letter To My Nephew
So much about what Jimmy Baldwin has to say about race relations under white supremacy can be said about gender relations under the patriarchy. Here are some that stood out for me while reading his insightful book, The Fire Next Time.

      Hey, you and I have very different impressions of the show and what it's choices say which is fine. When I see a show where every single one of the main characters is a rich woman, I consider it a show focused on the rich.... but that's just me. You clearly got something else which is okay.

    It appears to me that the media has been, and is being decentralized. What replaces media control is manners and politeness control. America, culturally, is beginning to look aristocratic, with a culture of politeness censorship around sex, money and politics. Personally, I think the words are usually projections, and uttering them is rarely the problem. We don't usually take each other all that seriously!

      Mr. Watson, here's some help. Please help yourself to General Smedley Butler's _War is a Racket_ . It's freely available on the www. I would highly recommend the generous TH-cam presentations/interviews of professors Michael Hudson, Richard Wolff, Aaron Goode, Jeffrey Sachs, Michael Parenti, Howard Zinn, et al. What an illuminating crew! In addition, the writings of the "Father of Public Relations," Edward Bernays, can also be found on the www. This man helped US elites _con_ a majority of the US's population, if not that of the planet. These thinkers will help your soul will get a sense of reality and closure. I wish you well on your journey. Be well.

    OMG!! I guess I’m legitimately a creative after all. I thought I would be in my feelings but I’m not. Perhaps because so much time has passed, and as such there’s distance and retrospect; and I can say I mostly agree with you. I think much of this is actually first a criticism of the source material - the book. But there’s also valid criticisms here specific to the show version. Like the lack of chemistry between the love story characters.

    I got the same vibe, it was pretty gross. It's definitely a good thing that this societal issue is being shown in media but the way they did it really trivializes the experience vulnerable people suffer everyday. This clip reminds me of the BBC doc Sex for Grades

    • @utterlunacy7066
      @utterlunacy7066 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's good to know I'm not the only one who got that. And you're right about their framing trivializing it.

  • @karnaerrande
    @karnaerrande 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Something that will really piss you off is the salary of that character wouldn't even be enough to finance a mercedes benz if she saved up all her money for a year. What this scene ultimately does is encourage africans in urban areas to purchase foreign goods they can't afford and trivialize their work ethic. I did a research paper in university where I identified how the richest areas in africa are the most geographically isolated rural areas specifically because of bs like this.

  • @karnaerrande

    At least in the US there can be some practical benefits to marriage. Even if the spouse does nothing the family can move down a tax bracket, get better deals on insurance and services, and more easily claim a child's expenses for further tax deductions. I know some families that were able to live comfortable lives and barely work by staying married. Of course this all depends on picking the right partner 😂

  • @karnaerrande
    @karnaerrande 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Loved the video. It's cool learning about african media and your perspective on escapism relating to the narrative of women looking for rich men makes me reconsider my perspective. On youtube, I think the gold digger narrative was really pushed into gen z through early youtube videos (like prank channels) and more recently through red pill content creators. Luckily, I think we're wising up to how silly + black-and-white the ideology is when compared to personal experience

    Very telling how not only do most people propose things that are menial , low-IQ labor that don't take a hint of ambition, but also that they think somehow they have to wait until some manner of revolution to pluck this particularly low hanging fruit. IOW, if you want to do something go do it! Don't blame it on your environment or circumstances. What are you waiting for? Get off your ass, stop resenting the world, and just get to work do something other than dreaming of utopia.

    Too bad that this lesson against human hubris wasn't heard by the overwhelming majority of the American population. People are either too distracted or overwhelmed to be able to care, they don't believe what's happening in objective reality & are busy following some other narrative, they don't care because they've become jaded & apathetic, or they encourage & seek to deepen the general ignorance because they're greedy & have found that doing so serves them. I don't understand how people always seem to be able to excuse, justify, & accept human hubris as if it "weren't that bad". Perhaps it stems from the Judeo-Christian concepts of having been given dominion over all other life forms on the Earth by the "highest authority", of everything being on this planet basically "for us", & how we're the most special & favorite of God's creations. Ugh... talk about having severely bloated egos. :/
