Kelly Kettle - Best hack to boil water!
After watching a few different videos on the Kelly Kettle used with an alcohol stove, most people wouldn’t recommend it, because it takes ages to come to the boil, if at all.
Sometimes there’s no dry fuel around and methylated spirits is cheap, safe and easy to use.
But it is well known that alcohol takes longer to cook with.
In this video, I show you how to get a rolling boil using a hack and the Trangia, plus cooking a family serving of 8 sausages, on the hobo stove.

Excellent review! I also thought to check alcohol stove with Kelly kettle. Thank you!
I only use Denatured Alcohol in my little stoves ( Trangia , Evernew , Goshawk and others ) and have never had a soothed ( dirty ) bottom on any container that the water was heated in. Or any frying ban used to cook with. It has been (to date ) about 65 years so far. Simple reason for that , no water mixed in with the alcohol.
Thanks for a great test and informative review. The hacks were clever and useful. Have you tested the boil time with Trangia but without the top diffuser cap ? I run my KK Treker with a Trangia burner all the time but without the top diffuser cap. Cheers from Tassie.
Sure! Here’s the translation: “Using a carabiner to secure the kettle and handle is a great idea! It was very helpful.”
