How to Treat Endometriosis Pain | Pelvic PT | Ashlie Crewe DPT, WCS | SAS | Ep3
Welcome to episode 3 of SAS - Self Advocacy Sundays, because sometimes you need a little sass to be your own advocate.
As an endometriosis warrior, I learned the power of self advocacy & body literacy over a painful 5 year journey to getting diagnosed with endo as well as PCOS. You may have seen me on TikTok where I talk about everything from tracking my fertility to managing my PCOS weight & acne. I firmly believe that you don’t have to be a doctor to know how your own body works & use that information to your advantage.
My goal for Self Advocacy Sundays (SAS) is simply to cultivate resources for our community to learn about how their bodies work & practical steps that you can take to improve your health in layman’s terms. By no means do I consider myself a health expert or guru or even an ‘influencer’ of any kind. I’m simply a girl who has struggled a lot with my own health, my food choices, how I view my body and understanding how it works. I want to make information about your health & wellbeing so easily accessible to all of you without pushing any type of magic cure. So in this space, you’re not going to find discount codes for supplements or programs that promise to give you the health & life you’ve dreamed of. Instead, we’re going to learn from experts in the field of health, beauty & wellness that want to help you without selling you anything or pushing their agenda. All of this is why I’m so excited to welcome my third guest, Dr. Ashlie Crewe Campitella.
Dr. Ashlie Crewe is a board certified Physical Therapist and Women’s Health Clinical Specialist who specializes in pelvic health for people of all ages and genders to allow them to live full and free lives. While treating patients and training in pelvic floor therapy, she also attended courses regarding pain neuroscience, finding her passion in combining the knowledge from her pelvic health courses with the neuroscience of persistent pain conditions. She has developed pelvic floor programs in several of her company's clinics and currently treats patients of all genders with pelvic health concerns, while providing mentorship to other pelvic floor therapists in her company, and educating her community about pelvic health rehab. She achieved her Board Certification as a Women's Health Specialist in 2017 and is also a member of the International Pelvic Pain Society as well as the Global Pelvic Health Alliance. Additionally she has served as a teaching assistant in various Herman and Wallace classes. She is developing curriculum for her company to make inclusive and affirming pelvic health education accessible to clinicians within the large orthopedic physical therapy company she works for. Primarily, she treats in central Pennsylvania, traveling to several clinics in the area to mentor therapists and consult with patients. She is experienced in treating pelvic pain conditions, urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, post-operative gender-affirmation conditions, constipation, pediatric pelvic floor conditions, and prenatal and postpartum conditions. She is passionate about the multidisciplinary care of persistent pain conditions, and eager to work with experts in all fields of study to better help her patients have pain-free and fulfilling lives.

After being with my gynecologist for about 5 years finally in March 2024 my MRI showed impressions of Adenomyosis, Endometriosis, PCOS and two tetherings. After Diagnostic hysteroscopies, laporscopy, D&Cs, bleeding/irregular bleeding, crippling pain and biopsies she saw no indications of Endometriosis. She could have missed it since she is not an Endo specialist. She advised me to see a specialist.

From listening vlog 1 and vlog 2 sounds similar what I am having. This coming Monday will find out on my OP REFERRAL TO GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGY and will continue eating non-dairy, none-processed food, and no red meat, non gluten food. Just clean veggies and sardines and salmon and fruit that I noticed so far helped me: pears, papaya and bananas. Drink intake: water, mint with warm water with a teaspoon of cinnamon. And a very little honey as a teaspoon to stir in the 6oz mug cup. Food I ate so far: chicken bone broth, (iceberg lettuce with vegan hummus gluten free, salmon that In those packages ready to eat. I made it into a wrap) Veggie that I would make for this Sunday is : (steam okra, cauliflower and iceberg lettuce and spread of vegan gluten free hummus )will turn this into a wrap sandwich with the lettuce acting like a bread. Mint leaves 4 and cinnamon and honey , hot warm water in a mug cup. That I will have for breakfast and 30 min later will have fruit of papaya. Then 2 hour later will make a snack eating celery with hummus. Dinner will try do sardines in the same process for breakfast. I look up on endo food and how to prevent making the ovarian worst. So far my bloat swellings went down some and helping my stool as well. Hope this help another person. Too. And thank you for mentioning about cough drops I’m taking notes as well thank you for this video very helpful 💜

Personally, my surgery recovery was fine. My friends came over after. We ate snacks as I tried to not bust my stiches from laughing too hard. (It's now a forever treasured memory) but I was only pain free as long as I wasn't lying down! my pain jumped from 0 to 10 as soon as I tried to lay down. It was the gas pain, for me it felt like the worst side stich I had ever had right under my ribcage. Slept the first 2 nights with a pillow at my desk. after that easy recovery, I was back at work in a week.

I’m super excited my surgery date is December 22nd. I saw the surgeon in July and finally scheduled. My mri confirmed I have deeply infiltrating. I’m just so happy to know I have it and excited for some relief soon. I thought I was going crazy there for awhile. I feel all those emotions as well. Finally getting answers at age 34 and been dealing with this since I was 10.

WOW 😳 what's deeply infiltrating? That sounds scary! How did your surgery go and how are you feeling? I don't have endometriosis. I have uterine fibroids, (supposed to have adenomyosis) and a little bleeding ovarian cyst 😱😭 I'm sorry that you've been suffering for 24 years, I know it's not easy. I've been having the epic heavy periods resulting in chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and iron deficiency for 14 years. I'm going to set up a myomectomy surgery for mid April hopefully. I can't decide between minimally invasive or the open surgery, which is more thorough and longer down time.
