Maximizing space in a gun cabinet build
In this video I will show you how to maximize long gun storage in a gun cabinet build. This is a variation of a design my father came up with many years ago.
Sorry for the video quality, this is my first one so I am pretty green at this.

4 years later did you finish it ? show and tell
This really looks awesome and is a great idea. Just wished to see the rest of the build one day. Thanks for sharing this much tho appreciate the video and knowledge shared. Cheers dude
Any update?
Is your oak 1x6” or 1x8”?
Good space saving idea! I’m about to begin building my gun case and I will use it with the exception that I will either use plywood or re-orient the grain to increase the strength of the tines.
Glad I was able to help. I didn't use plywood because I didn't want to see the veneers, the oak has held up very well, it now has more than I can fit in it lol. I know people have commented on seeing the final product, I will try to do something soon, I have definitely not been good at that
Do you have a finished video?
Please share the base setup also and how much deep is your case.
What diameter were the holes you drilled?
Thanks for the video. I've always drilled holes in the back row instead of notching them all the way to the front Great idea. You scare me a bit running the blade that high when not necessary.
better cut when blade is higher
very cool , i have access to a cnc machine so will copy your idea , thanks
Just found your video - needing to make a gun rack for 54 rifles. Would love to see the finished project if possible.
Good theory but won't work unless you have extremely thin guns. Add in bolt actions and ARs next to lever guns etc and they will be bumping into each other.
I have mostly bolts with scopes and a few ars in there and they all fit well, it's tight, but I'm tight on room so that's what I had to do. There's enough room where there they aren't rubbing on each other.
What spacing did you use between the front row and back row? And is this a 1x6 piece?
I started with a piece roughly 6" wide, that gave me room to drill all the holes in solid wood. the finished piece from the very back to the back row of rifles is 1-1/2" to the center of the hole and to the front row in 4-1/2" to the center of the hole. The spacing between each slot is 1-5/8" center to center, so each front is paced by 3-1/4" and each back the same. I need to get a video up of the finished product, I keep forgetting when I have time.
@@northernliving4290 Did you cut the board down to 5 inches? When you put the square ruler on it to scribe the lines, it appears to only be 5 inches wide. this would also make sense with your other cuts.
@D_Boone I think it's 5-1/4
Really like your approach. I'm with the other commenters in wanting to see the finished product. Thanks for sharing this!
Greta idea, how did this this rack work out in the cabinet?
It worked great! Scoped rifles in the front, non scoped in the back, the key was spacing between the cutouts. Definitely a solid solution.
@@zacharycullen3677 Thanks Zach, My youngest Daughter needs a cabinet for 20 guns and I'm trying to reduce the footprint of a big case
I just got home and measured it. For reference the inside dimensions are 38 1/2" wide 14" deep and 50 1/2" tall. There are 23 spaces with two open. Its tall enough to fit a couple sidelock hawken muzzle loaders as well. If you have any questions let me know, it works great. I will try to get a video uploaded of the finished product, i got slammed with work this summer and just havent had time for anything.
How wide is that board and how far off the back are your holes .this looks like a answer to my room problem
Please shoot a video of the finished cabinet. I’d like to see how the gun spacing worked for you.
I will try soon, sorry it took so long to get this, ive been slammed with work and all my comments were going to my spam folder in my email.
