    Hi, do u have a valve that slows the water draining from the pond into the 1 st barrel? im new at this and trying to make a pond for my ducks that wont cost too much, pardon me if its a silly question.

    • @sideways_fun
      @sideways_fun 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello. No valve going out. I did add one on my pump outlet on my next version of this pond system to regulate the flow. if you restrict the flow from the pond it will overflow, so only restrict the pump speed if you need to.

      Its the mini 1 with hub drive. Still not taken it to top speed. 18mph is the max i have been & that starts to feel unstable if you keep the trucks loose enough to steer at low speeds.

    Hey Lee :) Came across your video from a recommendation on the Backyard Chickens Forum, as the best biofilter system they'd ever seen. I'd agree :) I appreciate this might sound a bit mental, but I'm wondering if there's any chance we could hire you for a day? We're pretty handy, but our current setup doesn't work, and we'd love some help with the planning? We're in Yarm, about an hour from Leeds. How about it? Fancy a paid day of meeting our ducks and telling us what to do?! Flora xx

    This is amazing. I would love to be able to do something similar for my ducks instead of emptying paddling pools all the time. We do have an existing fish pond with a pump and filter but trying to keep the 6 Indian runners out for now as it is a recipe for disaster. Perhaps there is a way to adjust our existing set up by moving the fish into a separate tank freeing up the pond for the ducks and adding more filters

    • @sideways_fun

      My fish are mostly living in the duck pond section now. The don't seem to mind & they eat the dropped duck food.

    I love this idea because you're not pulling poop through the pump and chopping it up, making extraction a lot easier. I'm planning a duck pond build and I've been wracking my brains trying to think of a way to achieve this when the pond is set into the ground, while maintaining that great muck drainage system you've got going on. So far the best I have come up with is to maybe design a vacuum system with a sealed barrel which will draw water and poop from the bottom of the pond, up to the barrel at ground level and not have it pass through a pump. Would you have any suggestions?

    • @sideways_fun
      @sideways_fun 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got goldfish. They eat all the mosquitos. They can hide from the ducks in the bottom of the pond & in the other section. Now the fish are fairly big, the ducks dont try to eat them.

    how did you make the front truck?

    • @sideways_fun
      @sideways_fun 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a caster mounted on a 22 degree angle. Took the single wheel out & added a threaded rod as an axel to fit a pare of wheels on the outside. There are a few variations on this to add a return spring. I think this one had a silicone band to help it spring back to center.

  • @slickbelge

    I have never seen anyone successfully tackle backyard duck pond filtration successfully. This is about as close as i've seen anyone do it. Very well done. What do you do with the accumulated duck muck in the settling tank? How often do you have to drain that?

    • @sideways_fun
      @sideways_fun 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers. I dump the sludge every 3 months roughly. Tip it on the garden & in plant pots. It stinks, but the smell go's after a couple of hours. So far so good. Been running pretty free of maintenence for a couple of years now :)

      I tried to get a good mix, but the better footage was generally the selfie shots. If I had more time I would take more video, but meh, I was too busy just enjoying the riding. I think this was the first year I got a selfie stick, so it made a change from just headcam footage only.

    • @sideways_fun
      @sideways_fun 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They dont have to be all the same, but the tops need to be level with each other, so if the pump stops, you dont lose any water.

    • @sideways_fun
      @sideways_fun 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They die back, but the bacteria in the roots still clean the water. The pond weed still helps keep the nitrates down though.
