Siempre está bueno escuchar a JJ Cale! Gracias por compartir esto💪 I fell that his music drive me to the spiritual peace.
The greatest ever the 🐐💪🔥🐐GOAT

Original and great musical version.
Thanks much, Jesús PV for getting the song credit correct. Percy Mayfield and not Brother Ray who had the hit with it. Sure hope somebody is repping the song's copyright and seeing that Percy's estate is provided for what they're due. Some day the big 6 or mebbe now down to the Big 4 global record monopolies will look to draw more moolah out of the Cale purchase that PolyGram gobbled up and then their smaller label SilverTone. Then mebbe those tapes that Cale, Karstein and Christine kept of their club, roadhouse and bar gigs taking this less than 2 minute song as the demo by Percy Mayfield didn't even crack 2 full minutes, those glorious and unforced onstage jams full of Cale and Crew's brilliant musical by-ways and backroads those jams will make it to market. Always surprised me the jam bands never took to it. Cale was not really big on lengthy jams on short tunes, but this one seemed to bring out the most imagiNative in the Cale repertoire.............. I figure he learned "Hit the Road, Jack" off Brother Ray Charles hit record. However, a few years before that hit the radio market there was songwriter\R&B singer Percy Mayfield's song on a demo with Raelettes vocalist Margie Hendricks as noted in the clip credits below and that was makin' its way around the chitlin' circuit, along with Percy Mayfield. th-cam.com/video/i3JxTTT5dAM/w-d-xo.html Hit The Road Jack - Percy Mayfield, 1960 Bob Figurante 288 subscribers 25,449 views May 10, 2015 Percy Mayfield (12-08-1920 - 11-08-1984) was an American songwriter, successful rhythm and blues artist known for his smooth vocal style, famous amongs others, for his 1960 song "Hit the Road Jack", sang with The Raelettes vocalist Margie Hendricks No players got to stretch out as Brother Ray liked to do with his band and singers, yet listen to the arrangement on the hit record in under 2 minutes by Paul Murtha here and also now archived on U. of Tube: th-cam.com/video/ygsxCCka2Tw/w-d-xo.html Ray Charles, Hit the Road Jack - Percy Mayfield Link to video score: www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4D1p... If you are interested in notes from my collection (score and parts for all instruments of the concert band are in PDF), you can contact me by e-mail: zeljko.seretinek@gmail.com That tight little track is brimming with life from melodic corners and grooves it took Ray Charles and his players to inhabit that likely caught Cale's well-tuned ears. Cale once mentioned on a short tour anonymously backing his creative partner and wife Christine Lakeland's blues combo called The Code (that I got to book a short Pacific NW tour for back in the 1980's) that he was doing up his own track of "Hit the Road, Jack" in studio for 1983's album #8 sessions with Albert Lee and Richard Thompson also on guitars and that amazing band of Cale gig & session regulars with Christine Lakeland and of course Jimmy Karstein on drums and\or percussion. I wonder if this was the Santa Monica Civic or at McCabe's or other venue back in '81. I saw the Santa Monica Civic show and don't recall Cale doing this, it was mostly his #5 material, a coupla three years before '81 and Cale had horns and stood towards the back of the band near the wings for most of the show. The grooves and interplay with horns was absolutely hypnotic. Thank Jesus PV (point of view?) for posting this 6 track set so loosey goosey with the grooves in the back room at McCabe's. So many memories in that tiny space and still keepin on keepin on! Thank you so much for posting this, Jesus. Not only the Cale rarities & live tracks but everything you have posted creates one of the greatest treasures with fewest views of anything I've encountered here at U. of Tube! Personal kudos for your posting the live track from Poco of the great and now late Rusty Young's pedal steel guitar solo on Cale's "Magnolia" that was always different depending on the line-up of Poco when Rusty Young, Z"L Rest In Play (RIP) and Paul Cotton and best of all while George Grantham was still able to play drums and sing with Poco before his stroke and health problems. On one Poco reunion show weekend in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri at a funky old bootlegger's hotel with no air conditioning and the Poco reunion concert in the down home lobby filled with fans from around the world the original Poco from Buffalo Springfield co-founder and vocalist Richie Furay came to the show with his wife and his daughter Jesse now grown and singing sublime harmonies. Cale & Lakeland & Karstein never mentioned Poco's playing of his songs, but John, Christine and Karstein did share their pleasure at the Jerry Garcia Band playing out of Cale songs and re-shaping them at those special JGB gigs, some of which captured on bootlegs I've found.... Health and balance Keep on doing! Put something in your "About" page with this treasure trove you've posted and add comments in any language you like. At least we fans out here will have a source to work from. Sure hope you write a book of Musical Memoirs using your own life with all these muses as the soundtrack like the great U.C.-Berkeley teacher\poet ovelist\performer\muses memoirist Al Young, Z"L of blessed memory and creative publishing partner of fellow teacher\poet\performer\playwright ovelist\muses memoirist Ishmael Reed, still going strong and publishing his lit journal KONCH out of Oakland, CA now that he's retired from his professorial gig at U.C.-Berkeley. Should be 1994 as he's talking about making Closer To You. He didn't tour overseas in 1982. Great post though, thanks!
If only they could release this as a CD? Cool JJ Cale bootlegs??? Please Or digital downloads?
Bravo !!
This is one of the rare classic movies that should be mandatory viewing in both high school and college agricultural classes. Too bad that Disney never bothered with keeping it on all of the theatre screens long enough to turn a decent profit, let alone re-release it this year for its 40TH Anniversary. Anyway, a petition to demand a 45TH Anniversary theatrical re-release in 2029 might just help, and with the possibility of the re-release waking up the cinema audiences in the following places: Australia 🇦🇺, New Zealand 🇳🇿, Ireland 🇮🇪, Scotland 🏴, England 🏴 🇬🇧, Wales 🏴, and especially South Africa 🇿🇦, among other places to the fact that the FmHA (Farm-Home Administration) is behind all of the farm foreclosures in the 1980s, and that the banking corporations have been blamed by Uncle Sam in the process.
Bravo!!!
However good Clapton/Knopfler`s etc cover is, and it is good, this one just nails it....
does anyone know why he never performed "City girls" live? It's honestly my favourite song of him
Neither Carry on - Friday
Jesús PV, this is a wonderful collection of rare and unusual ways for Cale & crew to present their recorded stuff on the road. Cale always kept things fresh by drawing on his wide moody range of grooves and ways into his attempts at writing simple melodies (he did want to make a living if not a killing with his ever moody studio sessions). There are a couple of clunkers here that no amount of live stage interplay can turn into interesting numbers. How "Katy Kool Lady" ever made it from outtakes onto one of the PolyGram re-issues of the old and otherwise evergreen and freshly simmering "5" album (perhaps bnest use of horns on any Cale record) after Leon Russell sold his Shelter Records label remains a mystery. Other outtakes that slipped onto that "5" album when reissued, like "Outta Style" are truly revelations from Cale's discard bin. Thanks in large part to the piano sound that studio session gets, I think from Neil Young's favorite Nashville session piano player. The one time I saw Cale in a larger room like the Stanta Monica Civic and have horns on stage for that subtle studio counter-groove warm breezes of rhythm were special occasions that I hope get a proper board tape release, cuz John and Jim Karstein along with Christine always had a VHS tape for that wide-band sound rolling to catch whatever magic was to be found on their road work sessions. Wispy groove tunes like "Bringin' It Back (from Mexico)..." really were special when they had a horn or three playing on the road with them in tight groovin' formation. (like the arrangements on the "5" album tracks.... Anyway, Jesús PV, sure wish you were employed curating this kinda collection on a label with some respectful approach to musical distribution. Cale and crew, especially his creative and life partner Christine Lakeland. She's seemed to me among the most undersung individualist song stylists and writers in the bid-net and stuff from her independently produced sides that sometimes had Cale playing well with his and her playmates in the shadows. Now that'd be something I'd love to visit a record shop and find in Cale's bin of reissues. Or find a bin for Christine's DIY issued albums. Her songs and sides truly hold up over time. She writes about the struggles to maintain a lasting thing in a world designed and built for erosion. Z"L Rest In Play dear Tulsa Time Breezy Cale and wondrous rare road reeds man Steve Douglas on these gems of eternity on those club dates when Steve's wife and daughter would give him a permission slip to tour after he'd retired from a life of Wrecking Crew session heroism in the studio mines cheek by jowl hemarhoids a janglin' with Leon Russell...Also, RIP to that groovin' collector of tapes hisself, Tulsa Timekeeper par excellance, Jimmy Karstein who I was sure would live forever. Keep on doing, Health and balance to you and your family & circles. In shared musical grooving thrall, Tio Mitchitio PS - Anytime a Cale set I caught when he came through No Cal featured his never properly released "Blonde Headed Woman" (gotta be inspired by his partner Ms. Lakeland) I knew would be a special set turning whatever rock, blues roots dive where the band was booked into movable paradise...... I made it to 4 JJ Cale concerts, 3 in Knoxville, and one in Asheville! ❤👍
Holy mackerel!! 10 seconds in and I knew I was in for a treat. This is my favorite jj song. Well, before I heard this version.
No Thin Lizzy solos?? Snowy's solos on Chinatown and Sugar Blues are ripping! The live version he did with Lizzy of Don't Believe a Word in Hammersmith 1981 is killer too. His solo on a live version of Still in Love With You in Hammersmith 1980 is probably the best version I have heard of the song. A lot of people have sort of forgotten that Snowy could really let loose and rock out. Great video though!! Snowy doesn't get the love he deserves.
Atemporal...❤❤❤❤
I swear this is one of my very favorite guitar pieces.
