Outdoor Bouldering: Expectations vs Reality!
Outdoor bouldering-it's not always what you expect! In this video, I compare the dream vs. the reality of climbing outside. From perfect conditions and easy sends in our heads to real-world struggles like sketchy landings, unpredictable weather, and sandbagged grades, outdoor climbing is a whole different beast.

Failing Miserably On The Hardest Boulders Of My Life
Awesome video I really enjoyed watching you climb. Could you possibly do a video of your climbing gear and what you use I’m interested in seeing that.
Hey. Nice video! I know there's not really any rules outdoors, and ethics vary by area - but to me, you're skipping the first move on the first boulder. By not establishing on the start holds, and instead using the ground to push off of, you're making that move way easier (despite you looking plenty strong to do it properly). Imo it's a bad habit many newer climbers develop because they're eager to get on the wall. But some boulders are short or the crux is the beginning, so skipping it is basically equivalent to skipping the boulder altogether. Good luck on your continued bouldering and TH-cam journey! I'm sure sending both the unconquered routes are in your future! 😊
Yeah i appreciate the feedback. I agree with you and have to go back there to see. Ik there’s a sit start variant as well as stand start variant. I’m self taught so I’m learning as I go as well. So I appreciate you watching and giving me positive feedback!
Next video covered in magjuice

Outdoor bouldering : espextation vs reality
The predesessor to this is "Chalkless grip enhancer" its the same activ ingredient silica silylate. The only difference is that with the added chalk it is made for climbing and the other one not with a greater focus on stuff like tennis
Yeah after using that chalk I figured it was the same stuff chalkess uses. Good to know! Thanks for watching!
Great work!!!!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Hydrophobic fumed silica
You're in squirrel rock? In these conditions? Damn dude good luck with the cold
Yeah, definitely not the warmest conditions, but still fun even tho I couldn't feel my toes lol.
Does testing chalk in this condition make sense? too cold :)
It was cold, but always fun to get on some rock!
Great video on the opinion. On the Rungne website it also states "It's a primer and you should combine it with normal chalk. so use maglock first and then normal chalk" Odd why he didn't say that in the promo tough lol. I appreciate you making this video to review it Blake!
Thank you, and yeah I wonder how much of a difference it would’ve made to try it with chalk on top as well. But thank you for the support!
good video
Thank you I appreciate it!
THANKS BLAKE
radical
Thanks broo
Def go back and send it homie.
Yeah i definitely will try and send it, thanks for the support!
Sick video dude. I’ve only climbed indoors and am going to try outdoors this new year.
Thank you!! Inside climbing is sick, but outside it super coool tooo, definitely check it out!
Looks dope! Gotta work some of the later moves too or weight them just to see how it would feel if you had stuck the move!
Yeah that’s the plan!
Damn, big walking day for you! Glad you enjoyed though, the gunks is amazing. It definitely takes some time to get used to
Yeah a lotttttt of walking lol. But it’s such an awesome spot. Just kinda walked around with the guide book until I saw something familiar lol. But definitely will be back in the future. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video that chalk looks pretty tacky
i thought u said tasty
new paltz is great. you should check out the nears and lost city if you can.
Yeah I definitely will be going back to check out everything! Thanks for watching!
👏👏👏
Awesome video great job
Thank you!
If you haven’t already do the wave! That one is rad too
Yeah I actually completed the wave, it’s just an awesome boulder. You have any other recommendations?
191st! Get on my level!
Great video! I'm one of the cofounders of Chalkless and really enjoyed your assessment and conclusion in the end. The way Chalkless works is by stripping away the oil on your skin, which is what makes your hands slippery. Even after it doesn't feel like it's there anymore, the benefit of removing that oil on grip improvement remains until something slippery gets back on your hands (touching your face for instance). Like the idea of using Chalkless to prep the skin, just make sure that after grinding it in you clap/wipe your hands to remove any residual material. Best results are obtained when no Chalkless remains, so give that a try next time!
Thank you! I really love this product, and can see it being used for climbing. I'll have to give it a try to when no chalkless remains. Awesome product. Thanks for watching and supporting!
On the forum of mountainproject they discuss it ""Chalkless Grip Enhancer" has anyone ever used this stuff? Bettrer than chalk?" and the consensus is that it's silica and probably hazardous
Very good.
Thank you, i appreciate it!
If you try it, let us know what you think!
Looks Like a great alternative and a lot less mess involved
Yes, a lot less mess invovled!

Thank you!! I appreciate it!!
Awesome video and some pretty sweet boulders
Hey appreciate it!
Those heel hooks might be holding you back my dude. Heel hooks feel secure, but they dramatically change your range of motion. It also changes your primary pushing limbs into suspension limbs
@@adriansalas3951 so you’re saying to like work on heels hooking?
@@Blake_Evans_ no I'm saying use your toes instead of heel hooks. The heel hooks might feel good at first, but during and after the motion the toe will give you more reach and control. Staying on your toes will also keep you ready for the next coming move saving energy. Heel hooks tend to lock you into a place that requires more work to set up for the next coming move
The first heel hook looks pretty seamless, but thats becasue you go from one hook (left heel) to another (right toe). In order to get the toe hook out (which is a continuation of the original hook) you bring the left foot in to take the weight off the toe. Then you place it in the same exact spot. If you had stayed on your toes to begin with, that extra step wouldnt be needed. Next you switched that toe hook (right foot) to a heel hook (right foot) and youll notice again in order to get the heel hook out you bring the left foot in adding an extra step to get the hook out. Had you crossed your left foot in, side flagged out and moved up from there, you would be in the perfect position to put your right toe on the last thing you heel hooked before this fantastic attempt Its all easier said then done, and ultimately do whats getting you up the wall. This is just a little explanation on some basic climbing mechanics, and aiming for efficiency. Hope this helps 💪🏾
@@adriansalas3951thanks bro I appreciate the time for you to explain to me and break it down. I see what you mean though. Thank you!
