I have been playing around with cars since leaving school. Always trying to make them better and faster in a way that I enjoy.
I almost like fixing and building my cars as much as I like driving them.
Until recently I mainly used 'off the shelf' type components or pre made kits, but have now I have started to make and fabricate some of my own parts, so far an interesting learning curve!
My Long term project car is a 2005 Fiesta ST, I have owned it from new and have been playing with it since. It has gone through many different upgrades and power levels during its life, I have now decided to record some of these changes to both document what I have done, and let anyone one who might be curious, follow along and see how my progress goes.
Hope you enjoy.

Fantastic video as always mate, thank you very much!! Wow, you certainly perfected that tool in no time mate, fair play!! Outstanding work as always 👌 All the best mate 👍
I have a connector that terminates the shielding into a ground/earth - it really confused me for a while! Great video
Thanks for watching Shielding can sometimes be via ground, and some ECUs will have a dedicated pin, But either way the shield only gets terminated on one end of the wire, usually the ECU end.
@@BackGardenGarage appreciate the reply. Yes, I did not anticipate the shielding terminating into 3rd pin in the connector!
great videos! always looking forward for the next one!
Thanks buddy, looking forward to getting it upside down!
Those beads came out real nice for a first time! nice job!
Thanks, well chuffed
Professionally done as always mate!! Thank you very much for the amazing video 👌
Absolutely brilliant video mate, thank you very much 😊
Wow, what an amazing job you’re doing mate. Although I didn’t think for a second you’d do anything else but an amazing job knowing how professional & thorough you are. Very well done mate!! Can’t wait for the next one! 😊
Thanks for the support 👍

Good job - a proper restoration job😊
Looks like you have some fun in store with this one!
I had a 2005 fiesta st for over ten years and absolutely loved it!
The funny thing was, I was only supposed to have it 9 months while waiting another car that was on order! That didn't happen, and here it still is!
Brilliant video as always buddy, thank you 👌 Wow 19 years old, you’d never think it to look at it mate 💙👌 An absolute credit to you 👌 Love the new features mate, well done 😍

Thanks, Im glad the video can be of some use. Good luck with the project
What's your tdc trigger degree ? Mines working nicely on -61, but if your 15 degs out so am I. Which way? I dont have any advance other than spark map
The trigger offset I used to get it running was 299deg, but once I got it running I dialled it in to 278. My crank pulley is modified, so I wouldn't rely on it, thats just what mine ended up being
Absolutely brilliant video mate, thank you very much! Wow, that carpet!!! 💦🙈 How gutting!! I just know it’s going to look absolutely stunning once you’re finished with it!! All the best to you & all the family mate. Thank you so much again for your help in the week, I really appreciate it!!
What cops are those can I use any ?
They are from a honda k20. I got them because the igniter is built into the coil as my ecu doesnt have inboard igniters. They dont fit exactly, so I had to make a mounting system for it to work, and using a different rocker cover. Yaris coils, and vag coils also have the igniter built in I believe, but no idea if they will fit in the rocker and reach the plug
Are you running paired injection ?
@@viqashussain4394 No it is fully sequential
didnt realize how rotten that thing was! good luck gods speed !!
Dont worry there is more to come!
resto mod or back to factory fresh !
Sorry one question, if your using standard injectors, what's are dead times?
Hi, I'm not using standard injectors, I have 630cc ones. If you are struggling to find them then you can just use approximate values, and then try to improve it during the tuning process. Not ideal, but the dead times are not critical to get the car running/driving
Brilliant video as always mate!! Thank you so much. Your videos just keep getting better & better 👌 Wow, they certainly did put up a fight didn’t they?! Blimey!!! 🙈 Can’t wait for the next one mate 🤩

@@BackGardenGarage Fair play to you mate. It’s lovely to have you back 😊 Can’t wait for the next episode 👌
Looking forward to seeing this get done. As much as I’d love to see it as a touring car replica running a 500bhp turbo engine, I actually think it’d be cool and probably financially better to do it standard. There’s a mega clean one that goes to local car shows to me and it’s wicked to see a mint standard one.
Thanks, Im looking forward to the journey. Driving this car is enjoyable and has is own identity, I wouldnt want to lose that modifying it. However there is lots of work to do, so it will be for from 'original' so perhaps an 'OEM plus' approach is best... time will tell
Hi man i have st150 55, on speeduino but i dont know the inlet times can me help me out? Possibly a start up map?.
I dont know what you mean by inlet times. With a VE based map, if you have entered all the engine/injector etc specs correctly and then set base timing. you can often enter 50% across the whole fuel table, and something like 15 degrees in the ignition table. And it should at least start up.
@BackGardenGarage sorry, its a 36-1 offset 270 (current settings), single tooth cam. Full sequential injection on 2 squirts alternating. Spark is around 10 advanced. At 20kpa ve 500 rpm is 44.
I do suspect my map sensor to be incorrect. And It is multiplied to the ve.
There standard injectors
Lastly is there anything I need to worry about in terms of edis. It is a new built in ignitors wasted module. Org ecu is still connected to cam, crank, as speeduino doesn't support dbw. I haven't touched the fule pump or any fuses or relays. Maybes somethings interfering?
Hi mate can I have another way to contact you, I have speeduino but I'm having issues.
Hi, I'm not sure how much help I can be, I have no experience with speeduino at all
So, oem ST150 calipers, focus cariers, ebc blue stuff and that’s it?
You need the focus st170 discs aswell, along with the bigger bolts for the st170 pad carrier (the hub holes need enlarging) The pad type/make is optional
@@BackGardenGarage oh, true! Forgotten about rhat indeed. Will set it up soon myself I reckon! Thanks :-) Ps: those st170 discs are always 300mm?
@@Rijnooit Yeah I'm pretty sure focus st170 front discs are all 300mm. Bear in mind, depending how you use the car, just getting braided brake lines and good quality brake pads might give you enough extra performance your looking for. Without the need for much else.
I'll pay that. Very clever. Give that man a cigar.
Nothing clear, neither the parts writing nor any item in the script.
So why didn't you diagnose the noise before you changed the drive-shaft? Hope you didn't charge the customer for changing the driveshaft unnecessarily? Typical modern mechanic, rushing & trying to just swap a component out in order to maximise profits.......!
If you would’ve watched the video properly you’d know!! Maybe a good idea to get your facts straight before accusing people of things. I know for certain that this man is an extremely knowledgeable & professional mechanic & would NEVER have anyone over!!! If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything you tool!!
Life isn't about just saying nice things......if it was all people and all situations would be nice, and they're not! I was making a real. logical point. Most motor mechanics do rip-off customers, sorry but that's just a fact!@@wayne3790
Always change water pump when in about things and doing cam belt change
Whats the diamiter of the individual manifold pipes id and od??
My guess 2inch I'd?
I used 1.5inch sch10 pipe, I'm sorry I do not know the exact od and Id measurements, but the id was definitely bigger than 1.5inch because I remember wondering why they called it 1.5inch when it wasn't!
What for turbo setup you have on your 150? Want to turbo my st150 and can use some information what parts i need, thnx. Make more vids mate, i like it
Im glad you like the vids. There is no easy answer Im afraid, all of my turbo bits are all custom, so nothing I have can be bought off the shelf. The turbo itself is a gt2871r. With a goal of around 350bhp. However it takes more than just a turbo setup to run that reliably!
How do I get in touch with you regarding your home made pipe beader
What can i help with?
@@BackGardenGarage I’m desperate to get 4 - ends beaded but of course companies don’t do small batches and I do not have a lathe to make the size I require. The aluminium bends I have made for 2 - radiators I’m mounting on a hybrid scooter I’m building. Their size is 16mm od x 13mm id can you recommend size of bolt and ball bearing I should use. I’ll then have to cobble up a drawing then tout it around locally to get it made up, unless you take orders.😉
@@angusfairweather6825So I used a M10 bolt with a 6mm bearing, I found that gave a good bead profile. However it was on 19mm od tubing. So maybe a M8 with a 5mm may be better for you. But to be honest I was just winging it with parts had lying around. As a side note the threads in the aluminium collar didnt hold up for long,, making it from steel would be better
@@BackGardenGarage thanks for the ideas, I’ll give it a go.
Really enjoyed the vid! I’m in the process of refurbing and re building a set of front and rear st150 brakes for my 1.6 tdci. Looking forward to getting them and seeing the difference also got some braided lines too 👌🏻
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The braided lines are definitely worth it, It gives a much better pedal feel.
Absolutely brilliant video as always Leon, thank you so much mate!!! The car looks amazing!! 👌 Love the new wheels, never seen anything like them before. Reminds me of (American Chopper) OCC’s Black widow bike wheels that he fabricated. Absolutely love all the videos mate!! All the best 🙏
Yeah, you dont see the wheels much as they are fairly heavy. People will often go for lightweight wheels for extra performance. They are very similar to the wheels found on a Lancia Delta Integrale, so definitely and old school wheel
@@BackGardenGarage Ah right!! I did wonder why I’d never seen them before. They really suit the look of your car & give it the perfect finish!! 👌 So pleased you’re happy with the difference all the hard work has made to the look & ride mate. You are a genius!! I wish I had a fraction of your knowledge 👌 Thank you again mate.
Hello 👋 what sort of mpg figures is the car giving you? For motorway and town and can you keep air conditioning with this set up
I'm sorry I don't have any mpg figures, it's not something I have worked out yet. As for air con, I did remove it for this setup. For my previous setup, and when it was supercharged I did keep the A/C., So it is possible to keep
@@BackGardenGarage You can keep A/C with supercharger? I didn't know that was possible wow. I'm at stage 2 currently looking to boost in the future should I skip supercharger and go straight to turbo? What made you want to switch? Thanks in advance mate
@@poosh6529 I kept A/C with mine, yes. I switched to turbo because I wanted more low down power, with the supercharger it was 4.5krpm and above where it came alive. However that also required me to forge the engine, as lower down power is more demanding on the rods/pistons. The supercharger was easy to fit (done over a weekend) and was problem free for 4 years. Around town/ low speed it drove like a standard car so no problem using it as a daily etc and is IMO safer for a standard engine. (mine ran 300bhp) Its kind of like an OEM+ conversion. A turbo is defiantly way more involved to fit (even a simple kit would be) and will be limited power without rebuilding the engine (250ish). In my case everything needs to be made custom, so there is never really a 'simple' fix if things needs doing. I cant comment on 'bolt on' kits, no idea what they are like. The turbo will however feel faster, especially low down. So Im afraid there is no easy answer.
@@BackGardenGarageYour response is very insightful, I am so grateful for that! SC still sounds appealing to me, so just a couple more questions if you wouldn't mind. In regards to the A/C, how does one keep that going with the SC, and will the standard Ib5 gearbox be suitable with a SC? Thank you again
@@poosh6529 The setup I had mounted the SC below the air con pump, so it was sat very low. No good if you are constantly driving through deep puddles! But apart from avoiding deep puddles it caused me no issues other than cleaning the air filter quite often. I would strongly recommend a diff upgrade in the box, mine lasted about 4k before the common diff failure. The standard clutch actually was fine, I only changed it with the gearbox repair.
Absolutely brilliant video as always mate, thank you!! 😊👍 Wow, that’s a lovely setup mate 👌 What a shame about the brake hose. I totally agree with you about changing it, better to be safe than sorry. Thank you very much again mate 😊👍
Thanks as always, yeah for a relatively small sum of money, brakes aren't worth taking the chance on.
@@BackGardenGarage You’re very welcome mate 😊👍 Thank you!! Yes, I totally agree!! You can’t put a price on safety 👍
They look fresh, hopefully you get a nice height where you can not be too bothered about pot holes. Being polybushed and on springs they are doable but.. London roads are rubbish.
Yeah, the roads around here aren't much good either. They will be an improvement over what I have, It feels like the shocks want to exit through the bonnet if I hit anything more than a small pebble!
Absolutely brilliant video as always Leon, thank you so much!! 👌
Glad you enjoyed it

6.00 brake vaccum, is it okay to run silicone instead of a rubber hose? Many thanks
The hose I used is reinforced hose, rather than normal silicone vacuum hose used for dump valves and things like that. I have not experienced any issues with it.
@@BackGardenGarage awesome, thank you very much.
By doing this did you do away with the one you made on that metal plate? If so have you still got it laying around as I’d like to buy it
Im sorry, the old fuse board I made was broken into bits. It turns out it was much cheaper to do what I did in this video instead, just takes a bit of time
@@BackGardenGarage no drama mate I’m looking into more just mounting the mini fuse board to mine, ecu and then a okie fused relay holders for the fuel system etc thanks for the reply and keep up the videos 👌🏻
@@6uiltdifferent Yes you can get some pretty compact relay/fuse holders now. finding the space for things can be a nightmare! Thanks and good luck
@@BackGardenGarage thanks mate might need all the luck I can get lol. yeah on these cars it’s such a pain isn’t it lol and one more quick question, the original fuse box lives did you have to extend them at all to get them into the car or was it a case of remove them from the conduit and re route? @@6uiltdifferent I have relocated the main fuse box feeds into the car. They are now mounted behind the interior fuse box (you can see the big red wires underneath).
