@@SICKDoor Eh?
Its an average script
I saw it near enough when it aired (I recorded it and watched it late on Christmas Day) and I very much enjoyed it. It's probably my least favourite of the Wallace and Gromit films (yes I do have a massive soft spot for A Matter of Loaf and Death) but even lesser Wallace and Gromit is still very much worth a watch. It might go up on rewatch as I find each Wallace and Gromit film improves, my most recent watching of the shorts last year really proved that, as though The Wrong Trousers is still my favourite, there all great in their own way (A Grand Day Out and A Close Shave are ones I've grown a real fondness for). I also rewatched The Curse of the Were-Rabbit a few weeks ago, I hadn't seen it since I was a kid (possibly when my years were in single digits) and I forgot just how funny it was. After seeing a great video called "Wallace and Gromit is Terrifying" by Dennis Gallagher, the larger cast (namely background extras) really stuck out because in the shorts Wallace and Gromit lived in a ghost town (likely down to budget and time). A Grand Day Out got away with it because the only locations it takes place in are the house and the somehow perfectly breathable moon (with a killer stove on it) but in The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and A Matter of Loaf and Death it really stuck out. Anyway happy New Year.
I love Feathers; a great movie villain. I particularly loved the nod to Cape Fear.
Love this film. Superb opening half hour. Love your presentation style. Good video. New Sub 👍
A subtle yet ominous folk horror film in my view.. Red seems to be the recurring thematic colour weaving many of the scenes and sequences together.
I disagree. It’s probably Altman’s direction or lack that the story seems partially improvised (hence a series of tableau) and ends as an exercise in circularity as the heroine returns to some sort of everyday life.
Just discovered your channel via this video. You have an engaging delivery and good taste and I hope you keep it up, even if your channel is so lo-fi as to be almost no-fi. I actually really like that approach. I hope you keep older movies as part of the mix. I love Sammy Lee. I think it is probaby the most underrated British film of the early, pre-swinging 1960s - and the Kenny Graham early-morning jazz soundtrack is fabulous. Newley is extraodinary in the role, but I have to say that the other commenter here is right - there is no way Dirk Bogarde in The Servant didn't deserve best actor that year (or even James Fox, if it comes to it). But any other year... (Personally, I'd have given the best supporting actor for that year to Kenneth J. Warren as Fred, the head thug - what a lovely, oddly nuanced performance as a chap just trying to do his job...)
Yes, great performances. I too was a bit underwhelmed by the ending. I guessed that the ending was going to reveal that Satanism was the first iteration, so at least it wasn’t quite what I expected.
Why do so many Brits think that in critiquing films, pointing out that a film's story is not particularly original is the coup de grace for taking it seriously. That's absurd. As someone who isn't particularly religious, that doesn't stop me from pointing out one of the many inescapeable truisms found in the Bible. I refer to apropos of your criticism of Night of the Eagle's flaw of lack of originality 'there is nothing new under the sun.' At Stratford upon Avon there's a theatre committed to performing the stories written by a man who lived over four centuries ago, and his plays are performed over and over again, all over the world, not just in Stratford. And beyond that the essentials of the plays are used to create numerous 'updates' that act as the central plots for many films and plays in modern settings. Or again at the rebirth of English as a meduim of expressing England's culture through the written word among the country's educated elite. Chaucer still had something fresh and meaningful to say through his use of a collection of archetypal characters in familiar situations immediately recognisable to a great many of his readers from the beginning, after the publication of The Canterbury Tales. You fail to mention that in this film one of the things that makes it very watchable indeed is the director and cast's skill at establishing an atmosphere of foreboding and tension that engages you almost immediately. That's why I''ve watched it around four or five times over the years. As an occult themed 'scary movie' adept at accomplishing its mission I think it does does a very good job of hitting its targets. Which is why I fully expect to see it again.
@@alexrafe2590 Sir, this is a Wendy's.
The movie is almost a remake of white heat
I thank you for explaining where the second heist comes in. I had no idea why the second heist was portrayed as important. I love that you also noticed how silly the physics of Caine jumping from one spot to a lower spot is. The one question I have, that is driving me nuts is, who was the man with the umbrella at the gravesite right before the credits roll?
love your input, invest in a good mic my friend
Good review.
This film has always been a favourite, shame it wasn't made in colour to see the countryside in all its spender!
Best Actor 1963 over Dirk Bogarde who won a BAFTA for Starring in Joseph Losey s “The Servant”?? I agree it’s a brilliant performance by Anthony Newley ,but I’m not sure it’s on the same level as Dirk Bogarde s in The Servant.
I just finished the book last night and really liked it. Now I'm curious about the movie, though sounds like it is significantly different. There's a UK release on DVD.
great author - it deserves a remake, and an extended space battle scene
Never heard of this one . I will try and find this.👍👍👍
@@jimmyfandago3211 Streaming here - watch.plex.tv/watch/movie/sisters?
The film was a mess, especially the "ending". I still liked it because of the actors, the girls, and the era.
Very good review. I love the 1940's movie with Tyrone Powers but I haven't seen the Murray one. I remember reading about his obsession to make the movie in the 80's. The story is very powerful and deserves to be re-made every 40 years!
Death ship or ghost ship. Nice vid :)
Definitely Death Ship! This is what happens when someone asks you before you record whether it's the one with the cable cutting people in half. THAT one is Ghost Ship - this is most definitely DEATH SHIP!
Worst 1 of hammer films but worth a laugh if not better movies u expected🎬
It wasn't a Hammer film. It was produced by World Film Services and distributed by the Cinema International Corporation in the UK and Paramount elsewhere.
I didn't expect you to stop there. Dude. Not cool. Just dis one of my favorite movies and then not even say goodbye. Super Rude. XD I'm subscribed. Say more.
Top review.
nice!
The 1950’s film is far superior to the more recent one which is the Gucci version of the event.
what I loved about the series was the realism . the ability to suspend my disbelief. this one didn't have that.
I was raised to believe that if can't say anything nice about something, then don't say anything at all. I saw "Unfrosted" and, thus, I have nothing to say at all.
Sounds good
I thought they overdid it with Dakin's personal characteristics - homosexual, mother fixation, sadist, etc - sometimes less is more in this regard. It's a very compelling performance though, even though Burton gets the diction wrong in the very last line of the movie. The heist scene is a classic.
Agreed. Good for un, but if a bit more thought had gone into the plot/motivations, it could have been great.
It was a pretty good movie,I agree
Interesting
I couldn’t get over how moronic it seemed that they were just taking photographs and not bothering to film anything. This lack of realism bugged me throughout the film. Joel recording a bit of audio or video even a phone would have sufficed. Couldn’t agree more about Jesse Plemons; he really does play psychopaths beautifully.
I think it leans into the classical idea of the photojournalist. Like with the specifics of the war, it's the overall tone and effect that feels more important.
Yes, but it doesn’t make that detail any less annoying!
Sounds awful
Aww, it's great!
Great movie
Sounds ok.nice review
I liked it Very unique
This movie was not a "programmer" as such. It played as a first feature (which is as I saw it on its original theatrical release). The really quite notable actor Richard Carlson i the lead, who had quite a pedigree in 50's and 60's sf and horror films such as THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and the Ray Bradbury co-written IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE. He was very much connected to the 3-D films of that era as the leas in the above noted 3-D films as well as THE MAZE. The screenwriter and director was, of course, Curt Siodmak who, along with many other things (such as author of the SF classic DONOVAN'S BRAIN) was the creator of THE WOLFMAN. Btw, the machine of the element's destruction is something called the DELTATRON, if anyone cares, a super high-energy generator. Nice to know you enjoyed it. It was one of 20 films selected as all-time great SF films in a large format book of the latter 70's or early 80's.
Bro a little volume again , youre comin in too low
Sounds awful.
Love to get your take on saltburn
Haven't seen it and don't plan to. It sounds rubbish.
I agree with you
Good review,I thought raging bull was his in his best movies list btw
Non of the Carry-On films are ‘good’. But they are what they are. Cheap and cheerful and entertaining.
Can’t wait to see it,thanks
Sounds awful
Thanks for this! I'm a huuuge Cushing fan and this one has been on my watch list for a while. Sadly, I am getting to the point now when I am running of Cushing films available for me to purchase on DVD/Blu-ray that are Region 2. As I am sure you are aware, a number of extraordinary British-made films are now only distributed by American companies. I do not have a Region 1 machine and I like to physically own the media I consume (I am an old soul). 😢
Sounds awful,good review,thanks
