Road Trip! What We Did and DIDN'T Do: Activities in Lake Tahoe & Carson City
Lake Tahoe was busy this weekend and it wasn't even the 4th of July! Hope and I wanted to visit places in South Lake Tahoe and North Lake Tahoe like Monkey Rock, Sand Harbor, Emerald Bay, and Zephyr Cove, but those places were all full and there was nowhere available to park. In this video we show you where we WERE able to go, including the Lake Tahoe Dam in Tahoe City, Sugar Pine Point State Park Hellman-Ehrman Mansion, and more. We'll be back for another roadtrip to Lake Tahoe next time midweek for those places and more.

    Our favorite attraction is definitely, Sand Harbor. You were not far from there from your opening footage, but it's impossible to get in there during the Summer. That's actually my next video, about Sand Harbor. My past video there has done well, and now that reservations are needed, it should be helpful. Do love the Tahoe area, I mean, who doesn't, but it can be quite challenging and we always reserve our time there for the Fall when the weather is still nice. Lower prices, and less people.

    • @eddieonthegotravel
      @eddieonthegotravel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I stayed in Airbnbs during my 3 months. My guess the hotels in the area where Elvis Nightclub & Diner is would be pricey up there in Altos de Riomar, Villa Campestre, Miramar, or Alto Prado or El Prado sections. Basically anywhere in the North is safe, in other words not the South aka the towns near or in the city of Soledad. My Airbnbs were apartments in Norte Centro Historico (Av 20 de Julio), southern part of Riomar bordering the historic district (there is a Radisson in the area where some good restaurants and casual dining (burgers etc.) establishments are, and Alto Prado. I had no issues with security anywhere I went, and I probably covered 75% of the city’s neighborhoods on foot in that 3 months. I like walking for exercise. My best recommendation is to go on Google Maps on a lap- or desktop and look into the prices on the hotels you find or Booking.com. That was my backup resource for if I wasn’t able to get an Airbnb.

    My dad and stepmom live in Boquete. I've been there. The sidewalks are scary! And no, the internet reliability doesn't get better..... they've been there ten years now and it's not reliable. Also, there are a lot of homeless dogs and cats. That's a real problem. I also was not particularly impressed with the local grocery store. I think that a lot of people go to David to shop. Going out to eat, it's not what I expected. Local fare is not palatable to me. Except for the fruit and smoothie stands, now those are fantastic. The restaurants that cater to the expats are pricey. To get a steak, skirt steak, salmon at these restaurants, expect to pay $35 or so. Yes, it's lush, because during the rainy season, it rains every single day. For months and months. Yes, you can rent a 2 bedroom house in Alto Boquete for $600 per month. But you can also get a 2 bedroom apartment in many cities in Spain, and the local cuisine is much tastier. For Americans and Canadians that do not have dual EU citizenship, residency in Spain is not easy. Like my folks. But I do have EU citizenship, and I'd rather live in Seville or A Coruna for the same price, better food, no loud dogs. Museums and culture. Less rain. There is A LOT of rain. Like, you need to have an indoors hobby, that kind of rain. Rain. Beads. Lacemaking. Woodcarving. Rain. Did I mention rain? The rain isn't necessarily the dealbreaker for me though. It's the local cuisine and lack of cultural activities. For that, I'd retire in Spain. Since I already speak Spanish (having lived in Spain), although Portugal and Italy would be fine too. Similar housing price, better food. No barking dogs. (i'm actually from Germany, note that I won't be heading there either. Although I speak the language, the local food is the main issue for me!) Prague is actually quite nice with tasty food, but the people are not friendly and the language, no thanks. There's a balance, but for me, I found Boquete to be overrated compared to the medium sized cities of Spain with similar costs of living, better grocery stores, tastier local cuisine, museums, universities, language schools, opera houses, etc. It"s true that my $600 in rent would get me a house with a yard in Boquete, vs an apartment in Caceres, Merida, Alicante, Girona etc, but I'd rather be in an apartment than a house when it's raining all the time and dogs barking and boring chicken, beans and rice.

After I did the first video I got a message from a waitress and the hostess that they showed it in the employee meeting. After that the previously standoffish manager who the waitress said was a dick came up to me one night and shook my hand. After that he always greeted me on seeing me there. Because not only have I personally witnessed things that he said, but I know several Afro-Colombians who affirm what he said to be true and is “business as usual”. I’ve heard the food is very good there, as well as the beer. I’ll have to check it out on my way through town on my commute back up the hill.
