I always tend to find nearby shopping centres with free charging, taking a longer shopping session than I need to just to let the battery charge up of free. is this a bad habit? like reading owners manual say every six months you should completely drain the battery to 0% and recharge to 100%. how do you even achieve that?

    When we had our 3500klms service the oil was changed and is a scheduled oil change. The first few thousand klms on a combustion engine are the hardest klms it will ever do. BYD service departments should know whats going on with these cars. How the servicing work its after the 3500klms complimentary service, its 12 months or 20,000 klms or 10,000 HEV, whichever comea first. Yes i got paper work on the complimentry service and the oil change was included. My car has now done just over 10,000klms in total. The way I understand it, you'd have to occasionally charge it to 100% but not every time for LFPs. This is so that the system properly calibrates where in your graph the battery's full charge is (since all batteries degrade over time, the system 'reindexes' the SOC levels). Much like how an aircraft gyro operates, it's good at determining your location but, over time the value drifts and you'd have to sync it to a known location at some point in time to make it accurate again.

    • @AllTerrainActionEV
      @AllTerrainActionEV 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Logical and yes correct, I guess I was not super clear on this. This is the intended design but there have been reports of sudden drops to 20% out of no where and even after a full discharge and recharge it has not corrected the capacity for some reason. Either bug in the BMS or battery issue I guess, but the normal way as you said is the battery calibrating it to whats available taking into account degradation.

The information below has been a copy paste from multiple sources online which use the BYD 1.5L engine. Key benefits include: Enhanced Thermal Efficiency: The Xiaoyun engine achieves a brake thermal efficiency (BTE) of 43%, positioning it among the highest in production. This efficiency is attributed to its ultra-high compression ratio of 15.5 and the implementation of the Atkinson cycle, which extends the expansion stroke relative to the compression stroke, allowing for more complete combustion and energy extraction. Optimized Fuel Consumption: The engine's design enables operation at higher compression ratios, directly enhancing fuel efficiency a critical factor in hybrid vehicles aimed at reducing fuel consumption. In practical terms, vehicles equipped with this engine, such as those utilising BYD's Super DM-i (or soon DMO) technology, have reported fuel consumption as low as 6 liters per 100 kilometers. Seamless Integration with Electric Motors: The Xiaoyun engine is tailored for hybrid applications, operating efficiently at constant speeds to recharge batteries and supply power as needed. This synergy allows the electric motor to manage acceleration and variable power demands, enhancing overall vehicle performance. Reduced Emissions: By maximising fuel efficiency, the engine contributes to lower emissions, aligning with environmental objectives and regulatory standards. Its design includes features like cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems and split cooling technology, further minimising environmental impact. Start-Stop System: The engine's architecture supports start-stop functionality, a feature that shuts down the engine during idling to conserve fuel and reduce emissions. The Atkinson cycle's design ensures quick restarts and smooth transitions between engine-off and engine-on states, enhancing the effectiveness of start-stop systems in urban driving conditions. In summary, the BYD 1.5L Xiaoyun engine leverages the Atkinson cycle to deliver superior thermal efficiency, fuel economy, and seamless integration with hybrid systems, making it a pivotal component in BYD's pursuit of sustainable and efficient automotive solutions.

    doesn't seem like the engine goes over 2500rpm in your test. it might have shared cooling with the battery and the electric motors and just uses the head from them to heat up and cool down the engine. just a guess

    Turbo timers were for older cars with solid brass bushing bearings that need constant oil to keep them from wearing. All new turbos are made with ball bearings and the oil feed line to them is enough to lubricate and cool it even after turning it off as long as you haven't driven it hard for the whole journey.

      I find the Sealion 6 will, rev at only 2 speeds - 1 speed is for voltage only charging, 2nd speed is higher revving and seems to be when I plant my foot through the floor in HEV and speed is > 70km/hr and it passes power from EV motors and ICE motor. I Will play more attention next time to see if it goes from high rev stright to off or not. I am not saying there is an issue here but it is interesting to break down this info so we can learn more about these vehicle types. Thanks for sharing that info. This was a bit of a frustrating and confusing watch. Are you trying to guage the engine noise? The fan noise? When the fan kicks in? Its all over the place. FYI the fan should kick in under two circumstances; a/c condensor cooling and pre-determined engine coolant temp trigger... nothing to do with turbo temps as it should be water cooled.

    • @AllTerrainActionEV
      @AllTerrainActionEV 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s titled wrong, that’s my fault. We’re trying to understand if in the Sealion 6 if there would be negative drawbacks from turbo been hit on and off, even after long use. Presumably then after engine turns off, water must still flow/pump to cool the turbo down. I just happened to also discover how well the firewall dampens that engine noise which is why I titled the video based on that and can see how that’s made the entire video confusing as!

    • @ErnosMowJo
      @ErnosMowJo 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      All good. Demonstrating the noise difference was informative. In regards to the coolant still running after shutdown, im guessing thats the case as there's not much info on these engines. Ive raised the question from a startup petspective... that is - What happens in a freezing cold morning driving at low speed to get to the freeway. Then hit the freeway only to have the ICE engine kick on at freezing temps at full engine speeds with cold oil/coolant! RIP engine longevity! I was "told" that the coolant is circulating straight away and warming up from the ev... not sure how accurate that is though so dont quote me.

    • @AllTerrainActionEV
      @AllTerrainActionEV 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ can’t understand how the EV warms the coolant though. In saying that the heater struggles to warm in EV only mode so I highly doubt on a fresh cold start it’ll be warm quickly, maybe 10 minutes in. Maybe next inspection should be OBD2 port connected scan tool see if i can see any digital readouts for coolant temp. I also wonder if the heater csn operate in reverse, like ICE cars using hot coolant to generate heat perhaps the same core can be used to heat the coolant form whatever way the EV works to heat climate air. Many questions.

    • @ErnosMowJo
      @ErnosMowJo 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yep i agree with you. Im going on what i was told, but my mechanically minded is struggling to see how it works as im used to traditional ice.
