I wish that I could share with you the utter joy it brings me to spend three hours on a Saturday afternoon reading Emerson, or Melville, or Virginia Woolf... or discussing T.S. Eliot or James Baldwin with a dear friend until dawn... the fulfillment that I get from going to church, from reading theology, from reading science, from... praying. But I can't. Because I am me, and you are you, I can't relate to the total fulfillment that I get from these things. It's impossible.
It is not a handicap to have one thing, but not another. To be one way, and not another. We are different shapes and ways, and our happiness is unique. There are no rules of balance.
Let's just... respect each others' selves... I need to stop talking. "Princess Cyd"

It is the gripping story of a woman's descent into devastating emptiness after being abandoned by her husband with two young children to care for. When she finds herself literally trapped within the four walls of their high-rise apartment, she is forced to confront her ghosts, the potential loss of her own identity, and the possibility that life may never return to normal.

Nice critical remarks over break down of such woman!
The Ice People is a bit like the story of Icarus, but there are no Aryans in it. The IcePeople are Scandinavian novels if I remember right, which feature a sociopathic character named Thengill. If I remember right this guy was a sociopath. The novels are an example of anti - woke literature. It has an introduction, a story - line and a conclusion. The Ice People is not your average dark fantasy novel. Its about what would happen if you gave a sociopath a dark fantasy role playing book and it was in a world where magic is real. René Barjavel does a great job at describing sociopathy, narcissism, post traumatic stress disorder and other mental disorders in the characters. Thanks for your review!! Best wishes to you from Iceland.
I'm sorry 😀 I'm afraid you are mixing up novels. The one I reviewed is a Science fiction French novel about a group of scientists that discover a couple of frozen human bodies in Antarctica. The moral of the book is to encourage unity amongst nations and stop wars! Very far from being anti-woke. It's a hard book to find in stores.
Her reflections or collective memory may be true in a developed country like France, but it is not universal. Her reflections do not seem to be universal because the life in the post war period in a developing or underdeveloped country in Asia, Africa or Latin America is entirely different from that of an affluent developed country like France. Life in the third world countries is so pathetic with extreme poverty, unemployment, violence, crime, political suppression, clashes, mass killing etc
Absolutely. The reflections or collective memory is in particular that of the French people.
@@GeorgesLibraryBookReviewsThank you 🌹
I can see Andrzej Sapkowski (The Witcher) on the shelf! 🙂 My countryman! 😁
Man i love this book
How about SLITHER in the last apprentice I read the whole thing
I just finished it, great work. Do you think the ex husband and the hunchback had it all planned from the beginning?
The story is about Aryans who, like Icarus, flew too high, and like Prometheus, were punished for the crime of art.
Nice video,love the book.
Me too!
Sim o último livro luneta âmbar ficou muito cortado .
LiKEEEE 🔥
Thanks for the visit
Muito bom ❤
You convinced me, I will read it! :D
Hope you enjoy it!
These were my favorite books when I was a kid sad to hear of his passing hope he enjoys his rest he definitely earned it
Ah, in an interesting confluence, I've just done a video on Nature Poetry also. I love 'Walden', such a centred, life-affirming meditation on place & well-being. Thanks for another great review - very engaging.
Great review! But I think it is not so disconnected as it seems. Lyra wants to go to the world of the dead because she wants to free her friend from endless suffering. Will wants to speak with the spirit of his father and find answers for his own questions. Eventually, their journey to the land of the dead is more important to the cause of rebellion than actual fighting. They rearrange the entire system of Dust circulation in the multiverse (well, as far as I understand it). Love saves the world but not fighting. I think the main point of the story is to save the Dust ( as well as free will, love and intelligence). Children do what they think and feel is right. They don’t care about war and sides, they care about each other and about their friends.
Looking good, George. Glad to see your passion for reading is still burning strong.
Always!
Your way of narration is so good that I as a listener got interested in reading the book without the plot being spoiled thank you❤
Wow, thank you!
❤
Thank you for introducing this masterpiece! I watched the movie based on this novel about 30 years ago and became her fan. In "The ballad of the Sad Café" it was written as below; The person who loves someone tries to have any kind of relationship, even if it brings to the loved person only pain. (I don't know the sentece exactly because I have read it in Japanese, but it means such a thing) This sentence is unforgettable for me. I love also "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" "The Member of the Wedding".
What a delight to stumble upon yr channel! It's charming! Put the kettle on George you have company 👋🐎🐎🐎🇭🇲🇭🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸🇮🇱🇮🇱
Welcome aboard!
Great review. One of my favorite books.
Mine too!
Hey man, do more! I just started re-reading this series
Glad you like the series! I'm having a hard time finding time to read lately, but I promise I will finish reviewing these books.
I didn't enjoy this book at all it was such a disappointment
I only recently discovered her. I"m currently reading The Lonely Hunter, a biography of Carson McCullers. It's wonderful
Thank you for your review. I did find the twists in 'A World Without End' more surprising than those in 'The Pillars Of The Earth'. The characters though are variations on the first book's characters, which is probably understandable given how much more limited society was in those times. People would inevitably have fewer opportunities, while information, careers and accepted behaviours would be more restricted. So there would be inevitable similarities between the two books.
Thanks for sharing!
This is one of my favorite Roald Dahl books. Just the idea that a secret society of witches that plot to rid children is terrifying especially if your a kid yourself. There are some pretty intense in this for a children’s book. The relationship between the boy and his grandma is what carries this book. I also prefer the book ending over the movie’s ending where he stays a mouse.
I really love how you explained your perspective of the book
Paul Gauguin cared for his family but Charles Strickland didn't.The Moon...is loosly based on his life.
Nice, I remember watching the movie, bizarre experience
Expecting the movie
I'm not ashamed to admit that this used to scare the bejeesus out of me as a kid!
It does have some scary moments 😳
I put this book in one of my fairly recent videos - 10 DNFs I might give another try. The problem I had with it was about 25-50 pages in, the author kept using "she thought" like 25 times in ten pages.
Love the series I'm also enjoying Joseph Delaneys(RIP) new series Brother Wulf its great to.
Thank you George for your summaries. I really like them.
I was pleasantly surprised by this and so now I want to read some more Taylor Jenkins Reid!
Yessir

George se uită la tine in suflet și îți povestește cartea 😅😅 bravo domnule, bun content🎉
This book was boring, dull with a depressing tone throughout. Not for me.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it. I do agree the book is not very uplifting... I suppose we have to be in a certain mood for it.

Wasn’t goblins caverns in the misty mountains?

I read this book through in one go last night. Amazing book that moved me. Came here to find your review. Thank you so much!
My pleasure! 😊 Thank you for leaving a comment.
I loved this book and I could'nt stop reading it. I am also a fan of Murakami's books, Have you found similarities between 1Q84 of Haruki Mirakami and A tale for the time being?
I'm afraid I haven't read anything by Murakami. Yet! I know his work, I just didn't get around to it. Your comment certainly determines me to start reading 1Q84 sooner than later 😀
Great video man!
The movie with Vanessa Redgrave is awesome.
