I went to this gig! At one point, Novato Frank started pulling Perkoff's zipper down while Perkoff was in the middle of playing a sax solo. As an audience member, it seemed clear that Frank was doing this purely as a practical joke, but Perkoff thought Frank was serious, and he held a permanent grudge afterwards!

Thanks Steve. Nick and John always raise my hair. I know that Nick knew Wolf and Hubert and learned from them. He knows those classic riffs cold. Did John ever get to play with them at the FIllmore or elsewhere? I'd be surprised if he didn't. Hubert was revered by guitarists and true blues fans, but never got the acclaim that he was due The same can be said about Nick and John. They will all go down in history as the top tier of the very best.

I went to 1 dead show in philly , drugs everywhere before the show all outside , total open air drug market . Not one cop cared about the drugs being sold all over . Oh the show sucked, I never understood why anyone was into it except for the doing acid. What a bunch of fools . As usual the band was just a front for it all in my view.

I ran into my Buddy Steve at this show. Rohnert Park - two days later in the daytime, Stern Grove in SF Buddy, Eric Gale & Buddy's Son Greg Guy played for the People who came for free! Two in 3 days with a long trip to San Diego or something in-between. Thanks for this Steve. He's still wailing away at 87 by then as I was corrected about by Steve (b 7-30 so I was off by a week!).👍

My favorite concerts also were Jefferson Airplane/Starship. Probably 1974/75 concerts at the Shrine Or Winds of Change at Irvine Amphitheater. The hills behind the stage had a reddish glow from a fire and jets were taking off from OC International Airport.

Thank you so much, Steve, for what you share. Paul and Grace have been like family for 57 years. They have helped me through bad times and shared music in the best of times!

Wow. My favorite Jefferson Starship song. Thanks for posting this invaluable footage. And Papa John back on board for it too! Still hard to think of both Paul and Marty gone. Really really loved both their voices.

It's inspiring to hear him, decades later, reaffirming the message of the song,

Happy birthday John! One of the best perks of working for John was to hang with the colorful characters that were part of John’s world. Martin was a wonderful guy, and we got along famously. This guy is so cool to be on Johnny Carson, he didn't look nervous at all, and fit in just as well as the stars that went on Johnny's show. I wonder if Johnny kept in touch with him after getting to know him.

Saw this cat last night in Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo Mi. Like WOW ! 86 Years young and KICKING ASS !

Loved the band before he left for the first time. David called him "the engine of the band". Marty Balin told me that the Airplane often dropped acid and played. He said that he would go out there and have no idea what the lyrics were to the song, but as they started playing it all came back to him.
