Vlogging Dental Hygiene School - Week 4 - Part 1
It's test time. Week 4 kicked off with a lot of evaluations. I had my first radiology test, an anatomy quiz, and a skills evaluation in clinical. But the exciting part is that we got to start working with our instruments. That made my week so far!!!
The goal of my Vlog Series is to record content each day and then consolidate that into videos I put out at least weekly. Some weeks might just be a single video, other weeks might be more. But I am excited to bring you along as I learn to be a Dental Hygenist.

Wait so we have to take all of these classes at a college BEFORE applying for the dental program? I am a high school senior and I thought you could take the program and take the other classes also
Trust me you’ll set yourself up for failure and you’ll get kicked out of the program if you fail a class
Yes at my school you need to complete all the required prerequisite prior to applying to the program
I highly recommend doing dual enrollment at your community college and start knocking out your bio, chem, english and electives
Everything sounded reasonable until you listed the price of the instruments😭💀 jaw dropped. I shouldn’t be surprised though lol.

Im interested in continuing the AS for dental hygienist program at my local cc. Curious if you worked thru your pre-requisite courses part time or full time and how did that go? And once you got to hygienist school did you work pt or ft?
Im doing my prerequisites right now almost done just have to get thru this fall semester and next spring semester and I can apply by the deadline in july. Im working part time 30 hours a week right now (gonna drop to 20 hours after october) and Im managing it pretty well with 4 classes per semester while being pregnant with my first child. Not gonna lie sometimes I feel overwhelmed but I stay positive and my baby and spouse are my motivation so I keep pushing myself because I know it will be worth it in the end :)
@@celi6220your so lucky your deadline is after school finishes. My deadline is March of this year And all my prerequisites won’t be fully completed. I’m applying March of 2025 instead 🥲

Prerequisite is 1 year then get into the program and do 1 year for an associate right?
what were your easiest classes
Was it all the classes that expired or just the math or sciences that they didn’t accept ? Like what if you took your English and it’s been passed 5 years would they accept that ?

Can I continue my dental education after I get my associates degree and apply to get my bachelors and then my master’s in dentistry? What happens if you fail some classes at your community college dental hygiene or ever at a 4 year dental school would they make drop out of the class or school? Should I get all of my pre required class before I apply to a community college dental hygienist program?

Did you ever get advising if you’re still interested it’s good to get your Associates in Science . Math, English, a &p 1 and 2 microbiology 1 &2 possibly chemistry your advisor should help you

I still have a little less than 3 weeks until I start and I'm dying... I just want to start now! What would be your advice on how to be mentally prepared for the first day/week of the program?
I am trying to make time to film an instrumentation video and a 10 things I wish I knew before I started dental hygiene school video so stay tuned for that, but basically my advice would be to get yourself a rolling bag of some sort so you can carry everything you need with you. It seems like more often than not I am taking most of my books back and forth to school everyday since the coursework is just so extensive and you are constantly reading, studying, and working on homework.
I started last Tuesday and just want to say your not alone, after my first day I was overwhelmed with readings and how to fully learn everything. Take it week by week and don’t overwhelm yourself. If you instructor uses PowerPoint I print those and when you print it should be able to give you an outline of the power point so after I read I take that and go back to write my notes I did it lecture then add more from the book. YOU GOT THIS!
Sammie Edwards thanks so much for the comment and your kind words. You may already know this but I just wanted to tell you that you can write notes in PowerPoint and then they will print when you print the slides out if you select Notes Pages. I have an instructor that writes notes in that way into her slides so I just add to them, and for another instructor I just take notes in PowerPoint. It makes it nice because then all the notes are typed and I can print them out with the slides so I can study. Thanks again for watching!

I just wanted to say that I appreciate so much how consistently you have been posting! I don't start my dental hygiene program until September 30th and having your videos is nice to watch because I'm just so anxious to start! I have also been wanting to start my own channel about dental hygiene school but I just haven't gotten the courage to start yet!
Thanks so much for your comment Cassidy! I was very nervo-cited about starting school and it has been an exciting journey so far, even though it’s only been 7 days. It feels like it’s been a lot longer though. My fellow classmates have been lifesavers. I would recommend texting or emailing with your mentor (Big, Upperclassmen, etc) they are an amazing resource and very happy to help soothe your nerves. Cassidy Hedger My classes started this week and I got some of my instruments on Wednesday and it is a LOT more than just the traditional metal instruments that I was assuming we were getting.
