The White Strokes (Bowery Ballroom, NYC, April 2002)
A pretty interesting bit of footage from when The Strokes played a show with The White Stripes at The Bowery Ballroom in 2002. See Julian Casablancas watching The White Stripes set, Macaulay Culkin talking to Albert Hammond Jr backstage, and both Jack White and Meg White briefly speaking to Julian. Definitely a cool moment in rock history that I previously thought only existed in photos.

Havent finished the video as I'm commenting as i go Bill Drummond is God forget Clapton! I do love this because the British seem so cynical: come now everyone we can't have too much fun or else we'll call this whole thing off!! But meanwhile America (thats me) loves the huge razzmatazz of it all (guilty btw) I do though see the substance in both actions. A middle ground of the two is how to look at all this but I've just got to write an essay on this now. Ha thanks for this video friend ❤️

Funny, these commentators come off rather smug and out of touch in their own right while not realizing it, while the business men for example combining rocknroll with selling jeans come acroos as the real artists by simply being real and honest with their ideals to what sells. Ad men, commercial directors are artists too remember. Levi's didn't "take" the song, Motown sold the rights to them lol!

When photography was invented, it began putting the less creatively inspired portrait painters out of business. Art at its heart is a journey into the unknown of who we are, and when artists discover a new medium, the low hanging fruit is very quickly scooped up, and the rest of the artists are put in the same position that AI is putting us in. Whether you like it or not, it’s going to force us to expand and push deeper into the unknown. I guarantee that very creative people will use AI to expand art in a way that AI could never do by itself. The way that artists have used sampling of other peoples art to create wholly different and spectacular pieces of music is incredible and in the same way people will begin to use AI.

He's not wrong. Pop music has been the same for 30 and even 40 years. Producers all want each song to follow a specific structure. Loud vocals and quiet instruments. And lyrics that keep repeating to get stuck in your head. Even if the melody isn't that well thought out.

you just have the history of technology and progress going against your point. Ever since new machines and techniques have been invented to facilitate work, speed things up, and increase scale, humans have not stopped there. On the contrary, it is the way these advances created new opportunities, capabilities, and approaches that have driven true paradigm shift and era changes. As much as I hate pretty much 98% of AI art, esp music at this point, I think it is only a matter of time until someone talented and original in a new way does something unthought of before with the use of AI. Maybe a new form of art? a ridiculously complex genre of music? Something that would have taken someone a millenia to execute without AI... We must watch out drawing such sweeping statements such as "AI should not be expected in any creative field" as it bares an odd resemblance to quotes such as "the end of history" (1992, just before the first irak war lol) or “It seems probable that most of the grand underlying principles [of physics] have been firmly established.” (before the discovery of quantum mechanics and GR). People often think that new things are bad, think of all the boomer memes or "kids these days" quotes. It's a fundamental "familiarity biais". often tech is neutral and has both good and bad consequences. All we can do is make with what we've got, I personally think art is too fundamental and deep to be meaningfully replaced by AI or algos and that it is more likely to evolve to incorporate the existence of such tools rather than to be "killed" by them, and we've got 45k+ years of art history to back that up :) as a reply to the other comment (youtube won't let me reply lol): nope, use zerogpt if you dont trust me, or partake in the convo, that's even better
