The 2 biggest mistakes made are 1. Apple is not promoting the MLS games at all, In two years I have not seen a single ad for even regular season games let alone playoff or cup games. 2. putting the games behind not 1 but 2 paywalls, first you have to pay to subscribe to Appletv+, the pay again for the season pass. I watch a majority of Premier league games on Peacock with just the premium subscription. As it stands I will not be renewing the MLS pass unless things change for the better.

I believe it’s eurosnobery at this point, they simply don’t understand the history of soccer in this country. MLS was on the verge of folding in 2002 and we had several leagues before 1996 fail due to having the same free spending rules as in Europe. The franchise system was necessary to maintain the sustainability of the league and there is and still will be (probably for the next 20 years) no relegation because division 2 and 3 teams are still being made and don’t have (yet) the history. MLS teams might just fold if they go into a lower league due to a lack of attendance and attention if pro/rel is instated. TLDR; we do soccer the American way because this is America, not Europe.

@AlwaysHalftime - Along with poor ownership of the Quakes, it’s also worth noting that San Jose is a majority Latino (🇲🇽 specifically) city. So SJ is very much Chivas and Club America territory. And it was very visible during their Leagues Cup game at Levi Stadium, where it was almost all Chivas fans in the stadium. The Latino community that follows Liga MX but also wanted a local team to support are indeed the only reason the Quakes exist, but given our support for the clubs back in the motherland is most at heart, it makes support for the Quakes conditional. If a Liga MX team like Chivas or America comes to town, the game might as well be in Mexico as their fans would take over PayPal Park.

@AlwaysHalftime I’m a Mexican American from the Bay Area, and a diehard Club America fan. But as an Earthquakes supporter when I occasionally watch MLS, I will say that John Fisher is arguably one of the worst owners in MLS and sports! He is doing the same damn thing that he has done with the A’s: not adequately invested/funded the team (bottom 3 in salary spend), and does not care about the results of the team or winning championships, only cares about people going to their mediocre games and filling his pockets with 💰, and when the team actually is good and there’s things and players to build up around, he will immediately sell it all off for more 💰, like he did with Cade Cowell. And the team’s defense and midfield is atrocious! SJ has offensive players like Espinoza and Kikanovic they can build around, but Fisher’s cheap ass won’t spend the money to do it since all he cares about are pathetic and blatant money grabs. Thank God I am a SF Giants and Americanista at heart, teams that put results and fans first knowing the money will follow. But I do feel bad for some of my friends who are week in & week out Quakes fans. True Quakes Fans should stop going or watching Quakes games for it to change for better, and hopefully it makes MLS force him to sell the SJ Quakes! #Selltheteam!

The MLS isn't bad anymore but it's not GOOD. Where's the pressure to be better if there's no consequences to being bad (relegation). I'm well within walking distance of my City's team and can afford to go, but I don't because it's not fun watching meh soccer. Another thing is there's less community/culture in US soccer because no one is traveling that far for away games.

We should be talking about La Liga MX, the Mexican football league. Now that is a league that I truly hate, it's a joke. The league is terrible, primarily because of the lack of promotion and relegation in the league, which removes the pressure to perform consistently and can lead to a decline in competitive quality, coupled with a tendency for top Mexican players to be sold to European clubs instead of developing within the league, creating a gap in talent development; this results in a less exciting product for fans and critics alike. Oh wait, kind of sounds like the MLS, hahaha.

The playoff is simply MLS's attempt to kill off the National Cup competition which they dont have control over, they want to have the big final, they want all the money, they want the whole sport. No different from the NFL and MLB in that regard.

Americans on the whole have no respect for the rest of the world, and the MLS has no respect for custome- I mean fans outside of major 'markets'. I'm not a euro elitist, I love South American, North African, Southeast Asian football, anywhere were football is treated as much more than a game. You don't have that in MLS and dont deny it. I'd much rather see teams from Morocco or Indonesia playing in pre season friendlies against teams from Europe than the MLS

The problem is that these smaller sports aren't marketed well. Now days you need a subscription to watch everything. Put the games on over the air. Let the fan base grow. Some people don't even know there's a MLS team. AZ over the airs Phoenix rising and they're really popular out here for being an USL team. It's all about marketing.
