what would your roots look like if they were imaginary?
FOR cauchy's equation, suppose ROOTS from auxiliary equation=m m=alpha +_ beta{i} <-imaginary. Yc=xm(C1 cosALPHA + C2sinbeta)
What if the roots are repeated (i.e. the same)... How does that change our y = ...?
If the roots are repeated then y1 = t^r and y2 = t^r ln t
