I might be biased as a San Diegan, but landing in San Diego when you sit on the right side of the plane is my favorite landing. Getting to see Balboa Park and the Air and Space Museum go by is perfect. And everyone is always so happy to be in San Diego. But my favorite take off will always be Portland (PDX). Seeing the Columbia River and the line of evergreens on the edge of Washington is unmatched. Especially at sunrise.

As someone who was born and grew up in the Portland area and have flown there many times, I should have been able to recognize the landscape, but with the hazy horizon it took me the first 5 minutes to get my bearings and figure out the approach, eventually figured out you were lined up to land on 28L. I think it might have been easier to figure out if you were sitting on the other side of the plane, with the river as an easily visible landmark. I heard on the landing announcements this was Alaska, so I assume this was on a 737? Where were you flying from?
