Scooby stole my #1 fave pin spot from TSPP ;) Playing the game is an experience I enjoy, almost feeling like I'm in the show trying to solve the mysteries, and I kinda stop thinking about score. They're definitely not aiming to compete on Stern's tournament pin formula, which is fast multiball all-the-things. Hopefully they can get their code ironed out because your tournament issues are valid and I have experienced the ball loss issues more than I would expect.

I wanted a Wonka so bad I drove a long distance to play it. There was also Dialed-In and TS4 there. I played all three. After Dialed-In, I asked the guy if the flipper power was on low & he laughed, saying it was at max. 😳 It felt like the bats were made of Nerf! Soooo soft & slow. Then I played the other two and left my 2nd ball in play on TS4. Worst, weakest flippers I’ve ever played on new machines. I was gravely bummed out. Then a few months ago, I played Elton near me and could not BELIEVE the difference in the bats! They were powerful & SNAPPY, great action off em! 👀 Then a guy there told me that Godfather & EJ both had the “better” flippers installed-they’d apparently gotten the feedback (no pun). If they sold a retrofit kit for flipper assemblies, I’d buy a Wonka. But EJ turned out the best pin I’ve played all year. They’re liars if they say they didn’t change anything. 😂🤷‍♂️✌️

How would you compare to Spooky and Chicago Gaming as well?

i sometimes go to a local pinball place who have a room of 90's pinballs and a room of modern pinballs. The 90's room is rammed and people just don't enjoy the newer stuff.

Most of the people I know with pinball collections have primarily Stern and old Bally/Williams games. Very few JJP's. Part of it is money but another big reason is that a lot of people feel that JJP's just don't play well. Elton John is really their first title with decent flippers, and their rulesets generally aren't that good. Maybe JJPs are aimed at rich non-pinball players that are willing to pay anything to get a flashy game in their man-cave but the competitive level players generally prefer Stern.

When I look at it, I think price per game, operating cost, and depreciation. If a machine costs $7K, routed for 3 years, takes a depreciation resale of $4K. A loss of $3K, which means it needs to earn $6-12K for it to be a good investment, not including repairs. Its hard to make highly reliable, high earning, low cost pins.

Why wouldn't anyone want a 2.0 title? I can explain - I have a restored FunHouse with the Rudy 2.0 kit in it and we NEVER play it. It is so horrible on so many levels that I would just sell it on Pinside if anyone would give me anywhere near what I paid for it. I also own a totally restored WhirlWind and let me tell you - the 2.0 kit for that looks WORSE. Pedretti needs to get into the business of IMPROVING things for a $2000 mod or they are on their way out. If they want to participate in building OG games like CGC has (I sold my MB because the playfield was dimpling and cratering worse than my 15 year old's acne) then they better work on their clearcoating and hardening skills. I still own one of the two Cactus Canyon SEs I bought NIB. This is a solid title with a solid PF. The earlier stuff (got help the AFM buyers) are on their own. Of course many of those people paid $7000 for theirs. I never see them for less than $10,500. The quality of the playfields needs to improve before they can expect people who have already spent thousands to experience what I did and want to sell.

Really deep games made by pat lawlor like toy story. Aka the games with at most 2 shots that are made throughout the entire game

Interesting viewpoint. I tend to prefer the longer games you can get with JJP as i play at home. The sterns I have played out and about do tend to try to suck you in and get you pumping in dollar bills.

Your jjp business model was correct 10 yrs ago. They too now strip their games and work to grestly reduced BOM too maximise peofit. Veey disappointing and more importantly it seems to be biting them in the arse as they arnt selling. Stern also need to lower their profit margins and put more in games

I hear you on the brutal-ness but I am super addicted to this game. I absolutely love it, fortunately a location near me was crazy enough to buy one. Took me a minute to get into it but once I did I was hooked. Elwin is a madman.
