Thank-you for this helpful information.
Sometimes squatting doesn't work, my knees hit the bed rail. What else is there?
I meant cannula
how do I stop my can from twisting up around my neck? Am I the only one with this problem?
Too much waffle!!
I would agree with your statements on the brain disconnect. I am my wife's caretaker, she has PIGD Parkinson's. When we go for our daily walk, she has to think about longer strides and swinging her arms. Otherwise, without thinking she shuffles with elbows bent and no arm swing. Along with freezing and Bradykinesia to mention a few more brain disconnects, it's all very challenging.
That’s it? Put food on their lip? I already do that! No real information here. And the music is super annoying and loud just fyi. I just wasted 10 minutes. 😵💫
Good info thankyou, but waaayyyyyyyyyyy too loquacious.
Thank you, I am a tall community carer, sometimes there are no adjustable beds in peoples homes or the bed does not come high enough for me, this is valuable in helping me prevent back strain, many thanks for sharing ❤❤
Thank you, I really need tips like these.
Was hoping video would show how to properly put in a cannula. Can’t tell how you have yours on but look upside down.
my dearly beloved wife went downhill quite quickly .. 59 kg down to 37kg .. she seemed to like her breakfast Porridge . more often eating all of it .But eventually no eaties took over . no bathing / showering . I think she was ashamed of her new skinny look.Colostomy ACCIDENTS nasty fall,s head injuries blood everywhere . and badly bruised .
I'm concerned for a friend with alzheimers, he's deteriorating, not eating ,very frail. I was hoping for some dietary advice on preparation of essential nutrients to suggest to the family who appear not well informed. The advice on smaller meals with less assortment of items is helpful but I struggled to watch to the end as that was the only tip .
I have Parkinson’s, diagnosed 1 year ago. I’m 75. Have had inability to have a bowel movement without medication for a few months before diagnosis. I don’t call it constipation cause to me it seems the muscles don’t want to work, I don’t get the urge to go. I now find 2 movicol each day helps. It took a while to start to work. Relief at last.
You talk too much! What is your problem?
Brilliant 👏 i super appreciate this being addressed
My husband has FTD and I try feeding him but he won’t swallow foods, meds, water. How do I get him to eat?
Thank you! Excellent videos. I take Miralax every other day sometimes daily.
She talks alot but doesn't say anything !
❤
Get to the POINT and quit rambling.
What if they are refusing to use the toilet to pee and refusing to change their soaked diaper? They are capable of doing both but refuse to do it and also refuse assistance.
What I do with my husband is give him couple of minute break and talk to him about something else and then try again. I try to talk about other unrelated things during toileting in an attempt to distract him from what I’m doing. It’s so time consuming daily to sit with him on the toilet that it’s exhausting. I don’t ask him if he wants to go to the toilet because I know his answer would always be no. Same technique doesn’t work always. It takes a lot of persuasion.
Good day I am a taking care of a patient with parkison's. my patient has started to have difficulty with swallowing....but also coughing, sounds like phlegm. what else could i do besides keeping him more on his side when in bed, to keep him comfortable. Doctor is coming in
Thank you so much maam for your video I've learned this is my first time to care old women so i don't have any idea why shes not eating, she open her mount and i give her food i checked in the 1 minutes after still her in the mouth her food i give her salty food and sweet it takes longer to eat eat her food.
What are your thoughts of the upright walkers for someone with PD? Worth getting one?
Thank you for this video ❤ QUESTION - in this video you speak about the many things we can do to prevent PD falls. Please could we know more about prevention as falling is one of the two main causes of death for PD patients. Your input would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻
Great advice but the music in the background is very distracting 😬🫣
Lots of rambling and wasted words.
I do the opposite. I remove my nasal cannula while sitting or lying and put it on before I start moving. I have three pulse oximeters, one for the bedroom, one for the bathroom, and one for the living area (and all can be used for outside travel). I often check my O2 and heart rate and can feel when I need it and when I'm back up to good levels. I check to make sure of what I'm feeling.
Sometimes it's just a matter of raising the handles on the walker.
Not very useful. Just dragging on without any content
I think I may have PD, I guess this explains why I'm about to fall all the time too. Most of the time I have no idea what went wrong, I'm just falling all of a sudden. So far, I've saved myself and haven't fallen.
You don't mention your age, but the following usually affects older (60+) people. Research this subtype of PD; (PIGD) Postural Instability and Gait Disorders, is a clinical feature of Parkinson’s Disease where patients have Parkinsonian gait characterised by a stooped posture, decreased arm swing, and shuffling gait. There are other symptoms for this type, above symptoms are the more obvious. If you suspect this, start combating it soon. No cure yet, all anyone can do is slow it down.
I gave up!
I am dealing with this very issue at the moment. My mother in law lives with us and has dementia. She has an upcoming doctors appt so we will def cover this with her doctor. We have reduced the amount of food we place in front of her and we make sure we give her high calorie drinks like ensure but not ensure. She can't have dairy vut we found a plant based high calorie drink from Kate Farms. This has really helped alot. Thanks for this video.
I am so glad to hear that you found this info helpful! Thank you for sharing your experience with me!
dementia can be heal , use vegetable oils in your food , coconut , avocado oil . eat only fruits , vegetables , nuts and seeds . do breathing exercizes . nuts look like a brain... so its good for your brain . learn meditating and focus on your brain , so u have blood circulation . Yoga is healty . U need lots of magnezium , favorit food of your brain . Cacaou , spinich , stinging nettle , alfalfa . Avoid burned oils , chemicals , acidic foods .
WHAT A WASTE TIME !!
I don’t think the kitchen staff (huge facility) are trained on how to present food to someone with dementia. My mum 101 had stitches in her mouth from a biopsy and it took 5 days before they purified her food for her to eat. By then her brain was saying what is this slop. My sister and I had to sit with her and prod her to eat something. They were ticked off with us for being there.
Goodness no time and yet a cat distraction
This is so helpful
the most frustrating thing is that is no relaible way to diagnose this crap disease.
Yes, this happened with my wife, she eat well and then refused to eat or even drink ample water daily. She would get food in her mouth and instead of swallowing it, spit it out of mouth -- then proceed to wash the entire mouth over and over with water; all being spit out [wiping lips and then walk away from the table. The other strange change was she slept most of the day, then walked about the house all night -- moving stuff [or hiding it]: take from one place to stuff into another. To make her eat again the doctor at rehab center gave her Dronabinol 2.5mg daily. She had two strokes with dementia in the background; now she barely can walk or hold her balance. Not eating will bring eventual death.
You do not have to deal with 02 day in day out! So you have no room to talk! You bore me to tears!!!!!!!!
Try a cappuciano it works each day at a nice coffee shop
LOL!
It is true that with Parkinson’s the person isn’t aware of what their body is doing. I’ve had some serious near falls because of this. When I’m walking I tend to lean forward because I need to see what my feet are doing. There seems to be a disconnect between what the lower half of my body is doing and if I look up I will stumble, fall sideways or backwards. I use a walker now since a cane does not provide enough support.and gives me more freedom to look around. I not sure why this movement problem occurs. In any case not even physiotherapy can correct it.
Hi Jim, you've got it right. When someone has Parkinson's disease, the brain isn't getting information from the body about where it is or how it's moving. While therapy can't fix the underlying issue, there are techniques that therapists can teach you to help movement be safer and easier. Also, there are walkers on the market made specifically for people with Parkinson's, which can be really useful. Let me know if you have any more questions!
@@higherstandardscaregiver Thank you for replying. You mentioned walkers for Parkinson’s ,could you tell me what those would be.
What if you have to feed them, they say they’re hungry, but they close their mouth so tightly. Or when they open their mouth they barely open their mouth or their teeth are in the way. Any suggestions on how to coax them to eat?
This is a really good question Neri. My apologies on taking so long to respond! I've been in the middle of some caregiving myself over the last month. I'll plan to address this in an upcoming CQOTW, but a little quick tip is to put just a small amount of food on the lips. The person will usually lick it off reflexively, which can kickstart eating. Make sure the food is something they can taste! Many people with advanced dementia can only taste sweet and salty.
Or you can break their arms
They don't eat with their mouth, they shove everything in the butt hole.. to make them stop this, break their hips
I’ve had this problem for some time and I had to go to the doctors for help. She gave me a script for domperidone at 10mg to take before each meal. This helped somewhat however there is a problem with this medication. It can cause heart problems the longer you take it. It can cause cardiac arrhythmias especially in the elderly and I’m in that age group. So now I’m looking for a better solution to my problem.
Please, half way through the video before you get to the point!!!! Cant watch anymore!
less talk - PLEASE=turning you off
