Now that I think about it, she's not wrong. My work voice isn't the same as my normal voice. That said, I've only been pulled into the vtuber world for the last month or so, and I can see how having a different voice can help get into the character a lot easier, like in tabletop RPGs. I used to be annoyed with the fake TH-camr voice, but now I've gotten a little more understanding of it.
