It's been a year since we completed construction of over 60 acres of restored wetland habitat at the Sam Shine Foundation Preserve in Monroe County, and we've already seen a remarkable number of species moving into this new habitat! Shine: Planting 50,000 trees in three years
มุมมอง 228ปีที่แล้ว
Sycamore Land Trust has planted 38,000 native trees at the Sam Shine Foundation Preserve and surrounding nature preserves, and seeded in native wildflowers with Habitat Solutions. Next year, we will plant about 12,000 more native trees at Shine and nearby at Grandchildren’s Woods. Once this project is complete, we will have planted a total of 50,000 trees in just three years.

We counted 122 eastern bluebird and tree swallow fledglings in our nest boxes at the Sam Shine Foundation Preserve in Monroe County in 2022, and even found some unexpected inhabitants - two frogs! American kestrels are now a frequent sight perched on power lines and nesting in the boxes we installed. We’ve also been monitoring a barn owl box we added to the barn, but no luck on a nest yet. What a stellar log crossing spot. You gotta have at least 3 cams on that, one close aiming down the log and two other at angles. And put a generous amount of Jamesons Sierra Mist Bobcat Rubbing Lure on top middle of that log. That would really give the coyotes and cats a challenge trying to rub in it. I'd put 5 on that lol! One nice spot!! Jealous! Good Job! Griese Trail Cams.

    • @SycamoreLandTrust
      @SycamoreLandTrust ปีที่แล้ว

      This is located in northwestern Monroe County on a nature preserve protected by Sycamore Land Trust that is not open to the public because it is being restored to wildlife habitat. It is called The Sam Shine Foundation Preserve. That preserve is located near our Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve, where we maintain a public boardwalk trail through the wetlands along Beanblossom Creek. Visit sycamorelandtrust.org/explore for more information :)

      Hi Mia! The preserve has reopened and most of the trails are open now. We are keeping a portion of the trail in the area of the burn closed for a few more days as a precaution, but it should reopen again in a week or two. We have posted signs at the preserve to indicate which portion of the trail is closed.

    I'm confused. I thought that southern Indiana was native Woodland. Why are you cutting down young trees to turn it into a Savannah? And watching people cut down trees is NOT relaxing. Especially when we KNOW they are going to be clear cutting and burning 26 square miles of what is left of our beautiful hardwood forest. There are those of us who want our forest to be safe... SAFE from people with chainsaws.
