CABRIT Canyoning Shoes (review): finally a cheap and worthy alternative to Adidas and Bestard?

    Can you recover your rope once you are down, with these techniques?

    • @svenvancleemput
      @svenvancleemput 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Niko, definitely. However, this is to do with the way you rig the abseil. In the most basic form, if you were to put the rope double, you can pull it back by pulling one end. In SRT (single rope techniques) you can do the same, however, one side of the rope you put in a blocking system (a big knot, a figure of 8,...) which blocks against the quicklink. This allows you to abseil one side, and pull the rope down the other side. There's a lot of different techniques and usages, but this should give you the gist of it.

    Hey! Nice Canyon! I see you are not using Cabrit boots, still no video about how they aged. What would you say about them vs the adidas ones?

    • @svenvancleemput
      @svenvancleemput 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! So about the Cabrit boots! The main difference is this: you can see the Cabrit boots (like the bestards) as mountain/hiking boots while the adidas are more like sneakers/sport shoes. The Cabrits are sturdy, but the points I mentioned in the video, such as the upper gaiter stitch, wear out a bit, overall good quality. I find the adidas more comfortable, but mainly because of 2 reasons; first, I tend to wear more barefoot shoes with a wide toe box. The Cabrits’ toebox is narrower which for me is a bit less comfortable. Also, the Cabrits size narrower than the adidas, next time I will buy a size bigger in the Cabrits.

  • @TaavP
    @TaavP 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    After a year how are they doing?

    • @svenvancleemput
      @svenvancleemput 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Cabrits are pretty good shoes, good quality. As mentioned in the previous comment, I find the adidas more comfortable. The Cabrits have a stiffer sole, which lasts longer than the adidas, but which I find less comfortable, mainly because I’m used to barefoot shoes with a wider toebox. You can see the Cabrits (as the Bestards) as mountaineering/hiking boots where the adidas are more like sneakers/sports shoes. Cabrits are a bit narrower and size smaller than the adidas for me. Next time I’d buy a size bigger in the Cabrits.

    Is there a way to lock the 8 in mid descent?

    • @svenvancleemput
      @svenvancleemput 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! The answer is yes! All descenders can be locked using the universal way - a mule knot (in dutch alpine slip knoop and in french noeud de mule) secured by a stopper knot. I don’t recommend the technique where you pass the breaking rope between the eight and other rope, as this is very hard to undo in a free hanging abseil or under tension. It’s on my shortlist for making a video on it :-)

      Hi! That scene is just to illustrate the fact that the top system needs to be releasable under tension. A grigri works great as bottom system, but if you use it as top system, and you have all your weight on the bottom system, the tension on the rope will make it impossible to move the grigri up.
