9 minutes in..money..so much has changed w spotify etc...apple etc.
guess he was all about money.
5 mins in, and I'm blown away. This dude is dropping some major truth bombs. Thank you sir!
Ralph Murphy is the 🐐
Pleezzzz fix the low audio--really NEED to hear this!!!❤❤❤
Because of you by 98 degrees was amazing song that he wrote
That Miley Cyrus song verse is just "Sunglasses at Night" by Corey Hart
A lot of those bands and singers from the glam rock aera would never have made it big without Chapman and Chinn. Similar story with Stock Aitken and Waterman in the 80s.
Thank you Fenella, Sacha, and APRA. Genius! 👌 .. 😃
There is no sound through the entire video. Is this a joke?
Daniel 💖
Mr. Murphy mixed Akon up with Jason. Its all good .
I heard this man has transitioned. Rest in Power Mr. Murphy and thank you for your contribution to the creative arts.
I like that he his focusiing inn the essence of what makes a hit song works. Staying Alive its true meant for walking.
This man just busted out some epic song I’ve never heard, ends up being the sample for the trailer park boys intro
👌
Is it only me or the sound of this spectacular lecture is very low volume?
Larrup! He's a second gen Paddy. Love Neil! Legend!
RIP Mr. Murphy You don't know how much Love I have for you, your knowledge, and your video.
That combination of strict artistic integrity and realistic business sense/work ethic is how people become legends
So, the interviewer is, more or less, the host right? Yet Neil is the one who greets him and pours him water. What a humble, down to earth man.
When she sang she created magic
It makes me think that to have success in the music industry is all about marketing. Good music is just a tiny little puzzle
I believe you're thinking right... songwriting becomes a choice between creating what you believe is great vs doing it to sell as much as possible
Life is marketing/sales!
Not marketing, craft.
Thank you for posting this. RIP Mr. Murphy.
Oh no he died? I just told my friend that we should buy his book. Now his words have more value thank you Murphy for leaving us this knowledge. 😢
He didn't talk about most important thing, how they construct a melody which is a most important thing, how they approach starting with a new one, where they find inspirations. You cannot have so many hits leaning only on inspiration, it has to be a procedure
I came to Kev's music through Paul Kelly when I was 23. It's no mean feat when you're from the UK - his music was very hard to find until recently. Hearing his albums, plus the new Recollections boxset, really changed me. His music, the words, the thoughts - it's made me more inquisitive about Australian culture, and influenced me as a songwriter to the nth degree. Such a great guy, too.
I was in Mikes first band in Australia in 1964...We started at our school "Churchie"...He was great on Flingle Blunt and Guitar Boogie..He did not write any songs in our band but co wrote one with me called "Being unkind"..unrecorded and I still have it . I remember when we wrote it he told me" we gotta have a big word in their Thor" and I used the word "misdemeanors"..It was very 60's but I still think it has something to offer "nostalgia". Mike was in our band in 64 and 65 but we let Mike go .He had his own agenda in mind,.....I ran into him in the street in about 67 and he said he was off to England..He asked me did i want to go? He told me he could get free passage over on a ship we he supplied the band. I said no. I had just got married to the President of the Beatles fan club and we had a bub...Born premature(LOL) if you know what I mean. Anyway when you look back on your life and you contemplate how things might have been better for you, I realize that i should have gone to England with Mike..BIG MISTAKE THOR....I am song writer and have written many songs but it is hard to get your music played.I have had success on the Gold Coast but??? I also wrote a song with 'Nap Kipner" who Mike mentioned called "Blues in the Night"..unrecorded.......Mike is so self confident now and all his songs are great..I don't think Nicky had much input if you read Mikes story......It is hard to believe that this little red headed guy who use to read my poems in school has turned out the bestest song writer and producer in the WORLD. Go Mike go!!
What an awesome story!
so many homosexuals
Something about Mr. Murphy that makes me listen to his videos repeatedly, rather than listening to others once.
Charisma...
It’s cause he ends it repeatedly!
Sex on Fire sounded like a hit cos it sounded like Bruce Springsteen's Dancing In The Dark
One of the best musicians and storytellers of our time.
you know
bennetohamro 89.7 FM labo
Wisdom and humor, what a fucking awesome man you are, Colin. Well, Greg as well. RIP dear Greg.
Steeple fingers.
What a humourless prick. Sharkey for parliament! As if this twat cares about music.
im on the farthest end of the States and i love Missy, one of my top three all time favorite artists ever <3
I love him he's very normal, loves his wife and family.one of the best songwriters ever on the planet.love you neil.admire you so much
What an amazing story teller.
Anyone know what he's talking about with regard to the story of the Manager of "paul young's band"
Simply the Best it was written for Paul Young, his Manager rejected it so they gave it to Bonnie Tyler it wasn't a hit for her but then Tina Turner heard it, she asked for a few changes and the rest is history.
Unless you're a resident of Alcatraz :-)
Completely useless questions and also I can't think of anything more stupid than asking her to sing. And the audience keeps laughing all the time like being at a circus.
Her sweet voice
Neil is such a wealth of insight.
Strykert was a great songwriter too as was Ham.
Wonder if he ever listened to that one's demo.
'proceeding the interview'

Great lecture. I love Ralph Murph, although there is one mistake in this lecture by Ralph. When he's analyzing the song "Just Dance" he speaks of Jason Derulo's part. It's actually not Jason Derulo. It's Colby O'donis.
Great interview. Too bad the camera wasn't on Lisa when she was singing.
