10 Books I'm Reading Before The End Of 2023
Im so glad you liked My Husband 😊
Thank you lovely, I was very excited to read it once I saw you put it on your list of weird books ^_^
Idk how you got these manga they seem all over the place with tone and writing quality. I'll give a couple recommendations. Girls last tour: Story about 2 girls exploring the end of the world. slice of life, chill af, philosophical. 6 volumes (finished) Otherside picnic: Story about 2 girls exploring a strange otherworld with unnatural phenomena. Sci fi, horror, action(?). 11 volumes (ongoing) Look back and goodbye eri. By the same author, one shots (one chapter) although they are 100 and 300 pages each. Look back is about creating manga and goodbye eri is about creating films. Can't say much else without spoilers
Thank you for your recommendations, I'll check them out :) I had looked up what my library had and borrowed a range of different manga, I figured this was a good idea because I wasn't sure what I would like or what I found interested ^_^
I love your review and glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Lovely! I never would have picked up this book if it wasn't for you, so thank you!!! ^_^
It sounds as though you had one of the mics covered with how you were holding it in the second section of the video. Also, lol @ your husband's voice in the video about a book called "My Husband"!
Thank you for letting me know, I was wondering what I managed to do to the sound XD It did make me chuckle that he's in the background while I was vlogging about this book, it just made sense to leave it in there :D
Love these casual vlogs. Such a nice change in speed :D
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them ^_^
Reading manga could be confusing for first timers as u have to read them backward from right to left. Also, there are many different kinds of mangas. Same as any entertainment medium. But the majority of them are the one protagonist that ends up being a hero or with harem. But yeah. I recommend Juji Ito for horror.
I definitely made that mistake when I read the first manga until I realised I was reading it backwards XD Thank you, I will look into Junji Ito's work! :)
I often wonder what authors and readers consider romance in a book. I've been reading some Cassandra Clare recently, and I don't know that I'd call it romantic. Same with Twilight.
I think its a very subjective definition, as in its different for each person based on their own experiences. For me romance is anything to do with a love story. I've stayed away from Cassandra Clare because most of the reviews I've read have said that they're romance heavy, and the same with Sarah J Maas but I didn't think this one was romantasy at all.
It's good to try things out of your comfort zone :D
It definitely is ^_^
Interesting. I've never read Manga before.
They're very interesting, I think if you like anime or comic books its not much of a difference between those and manga. I highly recommend at least giving them a try :)
I think you're getting the arctic weather we've been having. It has been cold almost all July here. What prompted you to try extreme horror? Thomas Harris is amazing. I must go back and read the Hannibal books again. I agree that Black Powder War didn't match the first two Temeraire books, but loved meeting the pack of feral dragons. At least with the series being 9 books long and then I think there's a short story collection, there's plenty of Temeraire to enjoy.
Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking? Its been bloody cold! Anda Kent, a youtuber that I watch, reads extreme horror and her videos got me interested in trying it, that was an experience. I just got The Silence of the Lambs from the library so I'm about to start that! I would love to see your thoughts on the series, have you done a video on them? Yes! The feral dragons were I think the best part of the story for me, they were a bit cute. Its 9 books and 4 short stories ^_^
@@LizsReadingCorner- I'm from Victoria. You'd think we'd be used to the cold in winter! I've not recorded any reviews for the Hannibal books. I'll need to reread them, but I think they're amazing. Looking forward to seeing more reviews on your 100 most difficult book list as well!
ooh Victoria is nice and cold, we would love to move there! I can't wait to see your thoughts on the Hannibal Lecter series! I'm in the middle of filming a video on the most difficult books so, assuming everything goes to plan, I should have it up by the end of this week.
My main reads are Reddit. Book suggestion: The Black Company
Reddit does have some interesting reads 🤔 I'll add The Black Company to my tbr 😊
Great video. The Island is a fun read, one of those books you can shut off and just enjoy it. I've been wanting to read Demon Copperhead for a while now. I like that you target books other people don't like - maybe you'll start to find some you enjoy?
Thank you 🙂 I have a reading vlog coming out with The Island in it very soon. I'm about to start reading Demon Copperhead, so fingers crossed! I think I'm always curious as to what constitutes a "bad book" for other people, especially when I'm not a fan of a lot of the current favourites 😂
Seems that most are scared to read House of Leaves. I am too 😂
I can understand that, I was intimidated before I started reading it too. Honestly its worth picking it up and trying it, its no different to reading any other book! 😊
@@LizsReadingCorner- I will try to get to it this year. I appreciate your realistic take on it
Thank you lovely! I can't wait to see your thoughts on it 🙂
I've not read the books you mentioned in the video, but I really like the challenge and looking forward to seeing your progress. I'd really like to read these books one day. Feel your pain with people putting holds on books you've borrowed. Like that the magpie chose to join in celebrating you completing House of Leaves! I really do want to read House of Leaves now after watching this video.
Yes! The pain of having to return a library book unread because someone else has placed a hold on it is real! 😂 Our magpies are very vocal, one of them is a baby that hatched when we first moved into our house and is fiercely protective of us, its very adorable. I hope you do read House of Leaves, I would love to see you do a review of it 😊
Did you get to read Sundial - what did you think? I hope you enjoy Extinction. Love love Temeraire! Amazing books.
So I actually went to read Sundial yesterday and realised that I've already read that and Nettle and Bone 😅 As soon as I started reading them I realised that even though I'd enjoyed them I had completely forgotten I had read them, so I'll be checking Goodreads before making TBR's in the future 😂 I love Temeraire as well! every time I pick up a Temeraire book it feels like greeting and old friend 😊
@@LizsReadingCorner- at least you can cross two TBR off your list 😂
That's what I was thinking, two less to read this month 😂
I loved this mix up in content - keep it up Liz!!
Thank you Zkuuter, I appreciate your support 😊
You're so brave shedding books. Every time I shed books, I think it hurts my soul, but it just has to be done sometimes. Sara Douglass is a great author, but libraries should have copies. Love the little gecko cameo - we get some inside every now and then. They're so cute! Jonathan Stroud is great. I noticed in some of your other videos that you had a library book shelf, and that encouraged me to reorganise to make a library shelf of my own!
I love that you have a library shelf now, I found it just makes it so much easier to find them 🙂 Geckos are adorable, we have a lot here, we also get a lot of spiders and other bugs so that's probably why 😂 I love books and I love collecting books, but I'm also practical, so my two sides are always at odds 😆
Great video. Interesting that the cliffhanger in Godkiller grabbed your attention - do you generally enjoy cliffhangers? I think they can be divisive sometimes, but maybe it depends on how they're written. I really want to read Salman Rushdie. The Maid is amazing - there is a sequel as well that is just as good.
Oh my goodness I didn't know there's a sequel! I need to read it now! Cliffhangers are definitely divisive, I think for me it depends on the cliffhanger and how it's written. There are some cliffhangers that everyone else has enjoyed that I've hated (like Iron Flame), as to whether I'll pick up the next book it really depends on how much I liked the book I just finished, I won't be reading the next Empire of the Vampire book because I disliked Empire of the Damned so much even though the cliffhanger at the end was pretty good. I highly recommend you read Salman Rushdie, I look forward to seeing your breakdown of it 🙂
Suggestion: My Hungry Caterpillar
I can do that 🙂
I am so late to this video, and I have no idea why. I great range of books, and many that sound great. I recently read Everyone Can Forgive Me Is Dead, and I loved it. The author was able to portray psychological trauma extremely well. The Sarah Brooks books looks amazing - I also love the cover. A Deadly Endeavour also sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing these.
I loved the first two series. I haven't read the third yet, but do want to. I agree with what you're saying about spacing books out. Sometimes too much can make small irritations bigger if you plow through an entire series.
Yeah I think that's what the problem was, there was just a few minor things that kept cropping up in the writing that became too much by the end of the series. I still think, after having a break from reading them, that the third series is my favourite. I would be interested to see what you think as well.
Been hanging out for this! So glad you got through them. Might be something I hang onto for our son to read to as well :)
I highly recommend it! <3
Deltora Quest! <3
Now that I've had time to let it sit, the second two collections aren't so bad 🙂
I've read the first two Deltora Quest series. I still need to tread the third. I loved them. I'm looking forward to reading The Gathering. I noticed you have Wheel of Time in the background. Great series. Robert Jordan was amazing.
Honestly, even though I was burnt out from reading the series so quickly I think the third is the best 🙂 Oh I can't wait to see your thoughts on The Gathering! I loved it! I do have the Wheel of Time, only the first two books though I really need to get the rest and actually read through the series 😆
Great video. The Maid is fantastic. I hope you enjoy it. Reading the 100 most difficult books to read is a great idea. I tried to find a good list, but looks like different sites have different lists. It's something that's one of those things you need to get motivated for maybe, but I like the idea. Something I'd like to do one day.
Having read a couple of the books on the Goodreads list already, it definitely takes some self motivation. I also figured it would be a good way to read books I wouldn't normally read so I'll probably be doing more challenges like this in the future. 🙂
Baking!
Baking is a lot of fun 😊
That's a shame that something which seemed so good ended up falling so flat.
It really is, especially with the first book being so good.
Sad, looked so good.
It really did 😞
Great video, and so many of those series look great. Have you read The Witches of Eileanan series, by Kate Forsyth? Late 90s - early 2000s series. I loved it and it is one I'd read again. I agree that the 90s and early 2000s had some great fantasy series.
I haven't read it but I will definitely be looking it up now 🙂
Cool new vlog style! Bit of popping from around 10m mark.
Thank you, it still feels awkward but hopefully it will get better as I do more videos 😊 I believe that popping in the background is the fan, I'll make sure its not there in future, thank you for pointing it out 🙂
Ok I was a *little* distracted by the adorable teapots in your hutch! That blue bird... oh my goodness! I have some things that match it. I'll have to use them in a background so you can see! I read Heart of Darkness earlier this year or maybe late last year? Ha! I didn't enjoy it very much but I think I need a reread. Either it was extremely boring for me or I was extremely distracted! The Book Eaters sounds crazy! I need to start sharing my DNFs, too, I think. Thanks for sharing! Have a happy weekend!
They're a little adorable, we were incredibly lucky to inherit them from my husband's Nan along with a beautifully eclectic collection of tea cups and saucers 😍 I'm still not over the struggle from reading Heart of Darkness, I may be permanently scarred 😂😂 The Book Eaters was an experience, it was very unique, I just wish it was more than what it was. I like to share DNFs, I think it's good to normalise putting down a book you're just not vibing with (even though I'm terrible at DNFing books sometimes 😂). I can't wait to see your background! I love your videos 😍 Thank you so much for watching ❤️
sounds like a good read, love your channel!
I loved it 😍 thank you for the compliment and for watching 🥰
@@LizsReadingCorner- any time! 🫶🏼
Sorry, not a review.
Okay, thanks for the feedback 😊
I'd only just started His & Hers before watching this video - I think it may be the only Alice Feeney book I've not read yet, but I'm looking forward to getting into it more. Temeraire is amazing - I've read 5 books so far in the series and, like you, I think the dragons are wonderful characters. I wouldn't have thought an historical book with dragons would work, but it does. Thanks for sharing your insights into the books!
I can't wait to read more Alice Feeney, I really enjoy her books. Temeraire! I have no words for how much I love him! I'm so glad there's someone else enjoying the books as well 😊 It genuinely was a pleasant surprise how well the dragons meshed in with historical fiction. Thank you for watching! 🙂
Man those magpies really wanted your attention XD
Yeah they were very vocal about trying to get my attention, sorry 😅
So glad you’re enjoying the Naomi Novik series!
It is genuinely my favourite dragon related series out of all that I've read, thank you so much for recommending it!! You're amazing ❤️
Fav book series: Goosebumps. Was teh first one I ever picked up and read.
Goosebumps is amazing! 😍
Great video, and I like your balanced views on the books. So many books mentioned that I now want to read. I really want to read Garth Nix, and Markus Heitz. I'm still working my way through CJ Tudor, but agree that she's amazing.
Garth Nix was a big surprise, his books are always easy reads though! Markus Heitz has some of the best world and story building I've read, he also has a way of making characters come alive (at least to me, I'm not sure how much of it is my imagination though 😅 ). I love that you are reading CJ Tudor, I don't think she gets enough hype given how amazing her books are 😊 Thank you for always watching my videos :)
I really want to know what happened to Nina! Edit: lol @ book of doors
I'll read it today just so I can tell you what happened to her 😆😘
I’m a library girl, too. I’ll only buy a book if I’ve already read it and want to read it again, which is maybe one in thirty books at the most.
How amazing are libraries! Books are pretty but it feels like such a waste having them sat on shelves unread.
Good job on 13 books in one library haul and great variety The Sanctuary sounds like a great read. You may enjoy Mats Strandberg. He writes horror - a Swedish author and his books were translated into English. The CL Miller book looks interesting. I'm usually at my limit at the library for borrows and reserves. On one occasion, a large number of reserves came in at one time (I think 17!). It was one of your earlier videos that prompted me to read more CJ Tudor. I loved The Chalk Man, and Drift. Both amazing books!
The Sanctuary does sound like a great read, there are so many books to choose from now I don't know where to start 😅Ooh I will definitely look up Mats Strandberg, I'm always looking for horror books to read! I'm usually also at my limit for reserves at the library, I've started using the Libby app for ebooks for the library so I have a lot less physical books, 17 is impressive though, that's definitely a haul 🙂 Oh I love that you're reading CJ Tudor, she honestly doesn't get enough credit for her books. I'm re-reading them all so I can figure out which is my favourite, both The Chalk Man and The Drift are amazing books though, I agree! :)
Typically when I get books from the library there is a blue moon occurring. Good job on books.
Thank you <3
Sabby for the win 🎉
Sabby is the most beautiful baby 😍 she's also a good luck charm, I wouldn't have found the series if it wasn't for her!!! 😊❤️
I've ordered Return to Half Moon Farm 🥰 (hopefully I get through more than one whole book this year 😭😅)
Good luck! I hope you enjoy it 😘
*ahem* Pie graphs are the superior graphs. Because... Pie.
😂😂
Might have to add some of these to my tbr! ❤
I can't wait to see your thoughts! <3
Hope you reach all your goals this year! Agree with what you said about enjoying reading. Reading should be fun and relaxing.
Thank you! The only one who can bring my goals to fruition is me so I'll have to keep myself in line 😂
My reading goal this year is at least One (1) book dear lawd pleeease 😭😂
I believe in you lovely! <3
Get into writing! \m\
You'll be the first to know 😘
