The #1 Strumming Mistake Beginners Make (And How to Fix It!)
มุมมอง 38821 วันที่ผ่านมา
Learn the correct way to strum the guitar by using your wrist instead of your elbow! Many beginners struggle with strumming because they source the movement from their elbow, which can slow down progress and make playing feel awkward. In this video, I’ll show you the difference between elbow and wrist strumming and guide you through exercises to improve your technique. Topics Covered in This Vi...

fuck man, sounds so good
Whoa ....that was PHANTASTIC! Hey Jake! LTNS!
Thank you 🙂
nice. what exercise can you do for your fingers.iam 56 years old scales are hard to do. thanks
I think making sure that you are using proper fret hand technique is important. I've had students that struggled to play scales because they couldn't stretch many frets. This had to do with the way they were gripping the neck. The grip they were using resulted in lack of mobility and range in movement. I worked with them to correct the issue. It's hard for me to say without seeing you play whether you are doing that or not. I would say start by playing trying to play 5678 on the low E to high E string using all four fingers. If that's too much, just do 567 with your index, middle and ring.
Thats wonderful jake
thank you so much, ive been playing in standard tuning instead of the half step down, sounds so much better now
What’s the string order?
Not sure off the top of my head, but I believe you can see in the video.
@@jakebucher1 Okay
Thx man.! Super helpful, I appreciate the lesson!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this.
this is so rare, thank you so much
You're very welcome!
Great song, and you really need to learn how to play it. For one it's on acoustic, second it's in a completely different tuning, and third you don't know how to play guitar, so calling yourself a teacher really doesn't cut it at the end of the day.
😂😂😂
hahaha
0:40❤❤❤
I thought people were just joking when they made fun of ovations. Fine lesson, but that guitar tone is yuuuucky.
Haha you're not wrong. I've upgraded to a Martin since this video. There's a world of difference in tone.
I need part 2-to the end please help ...
Dude this is dope needa get a guitar some day lol😅 is there anyway I Could pay you to just make a recording of guitar cover ? 🤷🏽♂️ I’d actually pay alway wanted to do a cover
Thank you, I appreciate that. I could make you a cover if you were still interested. Just let me know.

Nice job So... where is part 2?
Thats amzing 💚
Thanks!
Good lesson. This is such a great song. Dave Mason rocks.
Thanks for checking it out!
I worked till I perfected all the rhythms to move on finished at 130 this morn. 130 bpm gives a workout. I can't explain how much this makes my rhythm playing tight. It's a workout you know yourself you should be doing from day 1 but it gets ignored because it's actual work. Great lesson Jake, keep up the rhythm lessons and you will be one of the most beneficial channels on the tube.
Thanks Danny, I appreciate your comments and nice words. I'm glad that you put in the work and are seeing the benefits. Rhythm and getting "locked in" are so important. Keep up the good work man. More to come.
I switched to a lighter, thinner pick and strummed a bar chord instead of D9 on this one. But failed miserably at 90bpm!
That's a good idea. You could also substitute a D7 chord in D9's place. It can be the open version of D7 or D too. Make sure to find a BPM that you are comfortable with and then incrementally move from there. It's natural to want to jump ahead and play faster before you're ready. That's what leads to the frustration. Keep at it.
I could BARELY keep up, my pick seems to rotate between my thumb and forefinger. More practice is what's needed....I think!
I was having this issue at higher BPM too. I switched to a Jim Dunlop USA Nylon pick that has a raised grip. The pick didn't move around nearly as much once I switched.
Keeping my pick from turning out of position in my fingers is the most difficult next to remembering to breathe.
I can't stress enough how important it is to stay loose at higher bpms. Keep your picking hand like rubber. Try and remove the stiffness in your wrist and keep a lighter grip on the pick. Being aware of your breathing is a factor too. Steady breath will help relax your whole body. It's natural that whenever we try to play fast we tense up at the same time. Tensing up will restrict motion and speed. Focus on breathing and keeping loose.
Feeling the burn at 115
Excellent! 115 is brisk
bro i love how you put effort into videos unlike most small channels, you deserve to blow up (not literally)
Hahaha I really appreciate that man. Thanks for watching 🎸
Amazing ❤
Your are really so talented You may very much grow by the grance of god ❤😊 We always support you
Love those 9th chords, especially for oldies like 'Rock Around The Clock'.
I love 9th chords in 12 bar blues progressions for the 4 and 5 chords (G7, C9, D9). I also love the classic I to IV jam (Am7, D9). And don't get me started when it comes to funk! Its everywhere. Thanks for watching and the comment Brian.
Your videoes are really help me

I appreciate that. Thats very kind
Jake, keep up the rhythm lessons. Maybe try some 12 bar chord progressions with this same format. I don't see anyone else doing this on the tube.
Thanks Danny! I have more scheduled to release today thru Sunday. We get up to 130bpm on Sunday. I love the 12 bar blues idea, thanks for that. I appreciate you watching and reaching out.
Perfect!!!!
Thanks Jared! Keep that right hand loose!
Its awesome
Thanks for checking these out, I hope my videos are helping you!
Amzing ❤
Thanks for checking it out
That is crazy... I was thinking that it would be easy peasy strumming from 73 to 75 BPM. Boy was I wrong, I couldn't keep up especially towards the end!
Dude, I know! The last video of this series ends with me at 120 bpm and I was barely keeping it together by the end. Keep up the good work! Incremental progress is the way.
Thanks elder❤
Thanks for watching Prosun. I'm releasing a series of videos this week where I increase the BPMs while playing this exercise.
Very good... thanks!
Thanks for checking it out Steve. Hope it helped!
What up Jake awesome job
Thanks Kenny! I miss you dude!
i have the same guitar :))))
Awesome. I love mine!
Loved watching you shred in high school! Keep it up my dude!!!
I appreciate it Steve! Hope all is well
🤣... not accurate at all!... nothing to do with reggae!...😆
Thanks for your input Hector. But it's a classic reggae strum pattern that accents beats 2&4.
Thank You Maestro !!! Could You do a lesson with rock ending licks ... please
Hey, Mr. Jake, your channel is grown so much Super happy for you. I may be doing your spring session, so maybe look forward to seeing you
Thanks for checking in Coris! You're welcome back anytime. Hope life is good my friend.
Great licks. Thank you
Ok, what enables the note to ring out so well when you hammer on it? It's like you just lay your finger on the string and it's as good as picking it? What am I missing?
Hey Marty, thanks for checking out the video. I think it's a couple of things that go into play. First, making sure that you are hammering the note with a decent amount of force. I strike from about an inch above the fretboard. Another thing is to make sure that all other strings not being played are being properly muted. Without seeing you attempt a hammer on yourself, it's tough for me to pinpoint your exact problem. Hope that helps. Hit me up if you're ever interested in an online lesson.
БОЛЬШОЕ СПАСИБО!!!!!!!!!!!!
