penguin (instrumental cover)
a very (very) informal cover of Penguin by Christina Perri.
I’ve been thinking about what makes a cover informal because I mean technically I had to mix this. maybe it’s just informal because I say so.
anyway the other night I realized it had been over three years since I posted anything new here and while this isn’t technically new (I covered a very stripped down version of this song here back in 2019) it IS significantly revamped (I’m wearing socks this time). so come breathe with me in your comfiest clothes for a second time if you’d like. and oh also meet BMO my omnichord!
I’ve only play tested this with headphones so do with that info what you will

i walked into my room tonight with the only light being my three wicked candle. for some reason, this cover was the first thing to come to mind when i saw the ambient light it created. i remembered how moved I was by how simple and beautiful it was when i first heard it. i looked for over 30 minutes before i finally found it. when i saw your three wicked candle, i knew exactly why i thought of it. absolutely worth it <3 keep doing music. you've soothed my soul on a night i needed it most.

hey!! i did this by ear so i dunno if there's tab anywhere out there but it's super simple so if it helps any i can just give you the frets and stuff? the entire thing is just the 12th, 10th, and 3rd fret of the low e string always in that order-the picking pattern is low e and the open b string at the same time and then the open g string alone, then open b, and back to open g (for the 3rd fret you'd play it once and then you'd play the low e string, open g, open b, and back to open g all individually for each fret!!) and just keep repeating that for most the song!! the only time its different is around the part where she goes "i can change" and that's just the open e string, open b string, and open g string individually for each fret!! (also idk if it's considered the bridge or whatever but the "fish for words i will fish for your thoughts" is the original picking pattern minus the second part for the 3rd fret. end on the 10th!!)

+kolbi erickson AHH THANK U SORRY I AM JUST SEEING THIS and i actually i did this by ear! its super simple tho hereits just the 12th fret, then the 10th fret, and then the 3rd fret all on the low e and so u'd play the e string and the open b string at the same time then u play the open g string alone and then the open b string alone and finally the open g string alone again!! u play the 3rd fret part twice if that makes sense :o the strings and frets stay the same the entire song but the picking pattern gets a lil bit different around the bridge (idk if it's considered a bridge but i'm sure u know what i mean) where it goes e string b string g string and it just repeats for a bit. there are a few odds and ends here and there but it isn't hard to figure out as u stay using the three strings and the three frets the entire song!!i hope that helped ^-^ also the link to the version i was playing as it is a lot easier to hear the guitar!! communiquem.tumblr.com/post/88495845466/how-do-you-tell-a-girl-you-really-like-her-eyes
