    She's singing live, no lip sync here. Love it when Dusty would start tossing jewelry to the audience. She'd also toss shoes and hair pins at times. Great song for her to sing as she was a true night owl.

    Some other examples of BRILLIANT Dusty LIVE performances that were never recorded in a studio for an album: "Up On The Roof", "People Get Ready", "Get Ready", "El Baion", "Peel Me A Grape", "Natural Woman", "I Don't Want To Go On Without You". All are available on TH-cam for viewing and are 100% BRILLIANT performances that rival any singer of her generation. And actually, her last live performance of "Where Is A Woman To Go?" is a pretty kick-ass performance too! You are missed Dusty!! RIP

  • @TheStefanSittig
    @TheStefanSittig 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    This song was never on an actual album nor was it ever recorded in a studio, like many of Dusty's songs...and some of her best performances. abbafan999-I doubt Dusty said that, as the first 10+ years of her career were almost all live performing, from her time touring with The Springfields to her various TV shows, she was constantly singing live. I believe it was later in her career, that she avoided live performing as much. Some of her best performances, in my view, were live.

    she was definitely more hoarse and the vocals lower by the time she did REPUTATION, but the voice is still there and unmistakeable. There are moments on "Send it to Me", "Daydreaming", "Nothing Has Been Proved" and the title track where she does sound like her old self. Dusty was 50 though, and turbulent life she had led had undoubtedly affected her voice...

  • @mnmcv1
    @mnmcv1 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dusty's attempts at disco were limited (I think only "That's the Kind of Love I've Got For You", "Baby Blue" and "Your Love Still Brings Me to My Knees" were the only real disco songs she recorded)...I think if she had been paired with the right song it would've clicked. This definitely isnt the right song, but Dusty's always worth watching... :)

    • @loriromano6399
      @loriromano6399 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, she didn't have a strong enough disco song. But I really liked "That's the Kind of Love I Got For You' although repetitive, it had a great feel to it, an orchestra played on it, no synth. Seems like she may have had another one or two tracks in disco vein. Can call them now. "Checkmate" was a great song and might be considered disco. That should have been the single. Hot song.

  • @mnmcv1
    @mnmcv1 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    okay, i can understand that- there's a distinct line between CAMEO and her later work. I was shocked by how good CAMEO really is, it's so undervalued. WHITE HEAT is her most unusual album, and honestly, one of her best. You can usually find the CD on eBay for around $10. CAMEO's much harder to come by. Either as a single CD or on the collection BEAUTIFUL SOUL (which adds her unreleased work from the aborted LONGING album), it's rare I see it for under $100...

    • @loriromano6399
      @loriromano6399 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Cameo is wonderful. But Dusty hated the recording of that LP, she had a very difficult time of it with the producer not getting her perfectionism. Later, she knocked the LP. Probably due to memories of the making of it. The wrong songs were chosen as the singles (again). Singles should have been "EASY EVIL" and "Tupelo Honey." Billboard gave it a great review at the time and gave it the "Special Merit Pick." The LP cover is terrible, a sketch. That didn't help sales either I'm sure.

  • @mnmcv1
    @mnmcv1 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I disagree- she recorded some excellent material in the interim (I can think of songs from CAMEO, IT BEGINS AGAIN and WHITE HEAT that hold up very well against her 60's work), but unfortunately they either suffered from lack of promotion (from both the record label and from Dusty) or poor choice of leadoff single.

    • @loriromano6399
      @loriromano6399 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You said it well. I'd get aggravated with Dusty when she'd do an interview and the interviewer made it sound like she didn't do a damn thing in the 70's. The woman recorded 4 great LP's from 1969 to 1979 (Memphis, Cameo, It Begins Again, Living Without Your Love) but she'd never bring that up in the interview to defend herself. She also played clubs and did t.v. appearances. Love her humility, don't get me wrong, but think she should have spoken up more. She worked like a dog in the studio and was a perfectionist. It paid off in unforgettable timeless recordings. Think underneath it all, Dusty knew she had a unique and incredible voice, she was just humble.

    • @loriromano6399
      @loriromano6399 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, she recorded 5 LPs from 1969 to 1979. I forgot about "A BRAND NEW ME." Probably my least favorite due to the songwriting.

    I don't know what happened to her taste in material after the early seventies, but she does look like she's having fun here.

      Just trying to keep up with the times and stay in the charts. The chart thing was too important to Dusty. Wish she would have just recorded fantastic songs. But to get a record deal....maybe she had to think charts, it was about turning a profit in the music world.

    Amazing - this interaction between a black man and a white woman would be have absolutely FORBIDDEN on American TV at this time! That she touches him affectionately would have had some Americans ready to burn a TV station to the ground, and I am not exaggerating. When Petula Clark merely took Harry Belafonte by the hand at the end of a duet they sang on US TV in 1968 or '69, there was a furious, angry national outcry.

    Dusty is thrilling to watch here and reminds me of when this legend appeared in 82 at LA's Greek Theater and I was up close and have never forgotten the brilliance of her magical performance...it was surreal watching her! Bravo Dusty and you are missed...White Heat came out around the time of this clip and Dusty rocks out with the best of them but this song was not released to my knowledge.

    wow, I love Dusty and everything the gal did, but what is the story with that outfit?! Yowza, not her best, but then again it was the 80's, what can I say. Did she also seem perhaps a bit, well, buzzed in this one? I know this wasn't her best years at that point.

    I worship Dusty, but this must be from Dusty's scare, trying to fit into the times, bad mid-late '70s period. Certainly her threads are. It looks like she got them at the Stevie Nicks/Pat Benetar garage sale.
