The Spirituality of Ageing
Worshipping with older people
Canon Prof James Woodward's second lecture from the Transforming Worship South West on-line colloquium on the Spirituality of Ageing, which took place on Wednesday, 26 June. James is currently serving as Principal of Sarum College, Salisbury, and is an authority on health and healing, Christian ethics, old-age, theological reflection and end-of-life care, and during our colloquium he led us through an exploration of his several decades of research and reflection on the nature of ageing, before offering some challenging and inspiring reflection on how, as planners and leaders of worship, we could do better in our thinking about worship with and for those entering the third and fourth ages. His book, Valuing Age: Pastoral Ministry with Older People Valuing Age: Pastoral Ministry with Older People (New Library of Pastoral Care) Paperback, is available from Amazon, and, no doubt elsewhere, for £12.99.

A really helpful session. A real inspiration to review my current practice. Many thanks Tom.
Why did the closing remarker concentrate on the appearance of the speakers, and idiotic thong references, rather than their learned expertise and experience?
If you want to negate the holiness of EVERY act rite conducted by the CoE, there is no surer way to achieve it than by using the 'brain dead' phraseology of 'Common Worship'. I thank God its devotees haven't yet contaminated the Coronation..

My husband and I listen to Dean Robert every morning from Northern California. We have gained more knowledge and insight about God's word through these wonderful lessons than we've ever received from our local church leaders. Bless you Dean Robert for all you do to share God's word.

GOOD Morning thanks for being part of daily devotion AMEN
I am from Pennsylvania, USA and have been a member of the Garden Congregation since lockdown began. Morning Prayer has been such a blessing and delight. It has encouraged me in developing a more vibrant and effective prayer life. Also, I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting all your animal friends and delighting in their antics. If Morning Prayer must cease at some point, I would likely also go back to the beginning and go through the TH-cam videos. Thank you, Dean Robert!!! Morning Prayer is a HUGE part of my day!
Thanks for being part of your Daily WORSHIP. AMEN
Greetings in the Name of our Lord from Malaysia!
The power of prayer. Amen. I could not agree more.
I’m a member of your garden congregation, from the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Your ministry has been a wonderful blessing in my life, thank you. May you and your team be blessed and strengthened by the grace of our Heavenly Father. Suzanne.
Every morning when I wake up, I pray to God and then listen to your morning prayer. Please continue this morning prayer as long as you can. Every morning is a precious time to spent with my Lord God. From Sacramento, CA.
Watching from Zurich Switzerland
Thank you Dean Robert. I’m so blessed to receive your knowledgeable daily garden worship.
Towards the end Rev Law: to merge the two worlds : a merger with hearts and minds, nourishing our soul. To bring us back to the Trinity. If that,s not too academic ! Thanks.
A very big thank you to Dean Robert. Only recently been introduced to your ‘Garden congregation’., A small comment to Rev Dr Lawn: we ‘know‘ the world through our brains AND our hearts.
I join morning prayer with Dean Robert et al from Seattle! It has been such a gift for which I’m so grateful. I also followed Tiger to this wonderful community and stayed to rekindle a sputtering faith. Blessings to you all!
While I live across the globe I listen to the Morning Prayer every day and it brings me solace in God's word. It has truly been a spiritual life saver! Dean Robert is the perfect conduit through which the Word is taught and expounded upon.
I second the comments made earlier by Georgia Turner. Canterbury morning prayers also for me "made the pandemic not just tolerable, but very rich." Thank you, Dean Robert and Fletcher for all the work put in to producing videos daily. Grateful from Atlanta, GA
Thankyou
There's a poem with a line that says " How extraordinary are ordinary things ". It describes how I feel that the concept of a garden congregation is. Morning Worship in the garden has become the highlight of my day - the worship, the bible readings, the natural setting, with the creatures allowed to be who they are and the links to significant people or events of the day. Living alone, in these strange times, Morning Worship has been a blessing. Thank you.
I love the ministry of Morning Prayer,,I'm so thankful for daily connection with God in this way, like others I can't imagine missing this daily joy
As a member of the Garden Congregation, I can not imagine a day without morning prayer with the Dean. It has made the pandemic not just tolerable but very rich. I have never prayed the daily office in my life but it has been a lovely new tradition for me.
Dean Robert is a legend! He has brought me back to the good book and more importantly God our creator. May peace go with him!
I am so happy everyday to tune in to Morning Prayer 🙏🏼 with Dean Robert … it has brought so much joy and peace in my life and comfort especially during the difficult days of pandemic . I have learned so much from the bible readings and psalms and especially the extensive knowledge that Dean Robert shares each day of what makes the days so special , whether it’s literature, arts, music his knowledge is so extensive it has been almost a teaching lesson for me. I give thanks and prayers that these services are available.I never miss a day . Continue Gods blessings to Dean Robert, Fletcher and all who make this possible.🙏🏼♥️ thank you so much from Toronto, Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you very much for making this webinar available. I’ve been taking part in Dean Robert’t garden congregation’s morning prayer for most of the time since its inception. Even though I’m in Australia, and don’t see it until nighttime, it’s a necessary part of my day.. 🙏
I also participated in Dean Robert's wonderful morning prayer, at the end of the day...as I too live in Australia. What a gift he gave to us.
I live in the UK, and am also part of the Garden Congregation. Above all it joins us together with our brothers and sisters throughout the world. Dean Robert has reached so many people through his unique ministry, and by doing so made us mindful of the presence of God wherever we are. My gratitude to the Dean, and Fletcher, and all their furry and feathered friends. We are so very blessed to share them.
What translation of the Bible is Dr. Robert using
I join Dean Robert daily from way across the globe in a tiny island of the Caribbean sunny Barbados. I like how he encapsulates world affairs and is able to offer prayer for each situation in their particular need. I want this year to focus on the psalms but would like to know how he chooses each psalm for the particular day.
@@valspencer5090 This info came from an automatic response email I received on behalf of Dean Robert when I wrote to the Morning Prayer email address: "You may wish to know that for Morning Prayer the Dean uses the Church of England book, Common Worship Daily Prayer 2005 (Church House publishing). For Choral Evensong the Dean uses the Book of Common Prayer 1662. The bibles used by the Dean are either New Revised Standard Version or English Standard Version, whichever is most suitable for the occasion. The Service of Compline was first added to the Book of Common Prayer in the 1928 version, and the one used by the Dean is a revised version of that from the Daily Office Book of the Theological College he attended. Many of those receiving Compline seem to enjoy the seventeenth century Prayer Book language for that service." Hope that helps 🙂 Also please sign and share this petition that one of our Garden Congregation members created. As you may have heard, Dean Robert is being forced to retire due to an ageist law. www.change.org/p/the-church-of-england-extend-the-retirement-age-for-the-dean-of-canterbury-dr-robert-willis?GB%3A6&recruiter=1193619026&recruited_by_id=c7505340-9d65-11eb-a200-c573c8c6f4aa&
