Todd's Model Trains
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 ส.ค. 2020
Follow along on my journey as I build my first model railroad, using model trains, supplies and structures that my dad bought in the 1990's. My goal was to build a layout using as much of my Dad's track, buildings and trains as possible. I've also purchased several of my own buildings, boats and stuff in 2023 to accommodate my layout plan. I've named it the Gulf, Central & Eastern Railroad. This layout doesn't model any specific railroad, but I've included several points of interest from the different places I've lived. The layout measures 15ft 8 inches x 6ft, with an additional 4ft x 5ft section.

Union Pacific EMD F7A Passenger Train
This is my Mantua F7 pulling a consist of Union Pacific passenger cars. From front to back are a baggage car (Western Lodge), an RPO car (#5901), a combine car (#5710), a duplex sleeper car (Portsmouth Square), a coach car (Portland Rose), a diner car (City of Los Angeles), a vista dome car (Challenger), a roomette car (North Platte), and an observation car (Baldy Mountain). All cars are made by Rivarossi except the combine car #5710, which is made by IHC.

My Model Train Collection So Far
มุมมอง 5677 หลายเดือนก่อน
This video shows my 106 freight cars, plus half of my passenger cars, plus most of my engines. All of the engines on the turntable stall tracks run great, as well as the small red and green switchers and the Burlington Northern switcher. Some of the engines that aren't on the tracks either don't run at all, or they run poorly. Lots of work ahead of me, but I'm satisfied with the progress. The l...
Adding More Track Without Adding More Plywood
มุมมอง 3248 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've been looking for ways to add more track so I can have more railcars displayed on the layout. I decided to extend 3 tracks on the industrial spurs, which will allow me to add around 9 more railcars. I also extended the "piggy back" spur up behind the rear of the near side downtown buildings, which will allow me to add another 6 or 7 more railcars there. The tan cork road bed will get painte...
John Bull 2-4-0 Steam Locomotive
มุมมอง 1.5K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a Bachmann HO scale replica of the famous John Bull steam locomotive that was used for the first time in September 1831 in New Jersey. This is the first time I've had this out of the box. It was purchased by my dad, probably in the 1990's. It came with the tender and three coaches.
Santa Fe 2-8-0 Consolidation Steam Locomotive
มุมมอง 3168 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a Bachmann HO scale A.T. & S.F. 2-8-0 Consolidation that's been sitting in storage since the 1990's by my best estimate. This is the first time I've had this locomotive out of the box. It runs great and the light works.
Burlington Northern GE U30B and an EMD SW1
มุมมอง 5899 หลายเดือนก่อน
This U30B is made by Atlas, and is equipped with their Electronic Dual Mode Decoder (e-DMD) that allows the locomotive to run in both DCC mode or DC mode. The Burlington Northern switcher is DC version of an EMD SW1.
Union Pacific EMD F7 made by Mantua

Union Pacific F7 making it's first rounds on both main lines, excluding the passenger train loop around the new railyard.
Santa Fe EMD GP40 and an Alco PA1 Running at the Same Time
มุมมอง 5K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
EMD GP40 Santa Fe pulling freight cars on mainline #1 (outer loop), and an Alco PA1 pulling Santa Fe passenger cars on Mainline #2 (inner loop). I laid the track and wiring on the new 5ft x4ft addition, and this is the first test run to make sure it works.
I added a 4 ft x 5 ft section
มุมมอง 1649 หลายเดือนก่อน
I used scrap plywood for this addition. It extends my main line around the outer perimeter, and adds a rail yard with 7 tracks. The track is pinned down temporarily to make sure everything fits the way I want it to fit.
Passenger trains & train stations
มุมมอง 51910 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have two Amtrak passenger trains and two Santa Fe passenger trains. So I have a train station for the Amtrak trains and a station for the Santa Fe passenger trains.
This bascule bridge is causing problems
มุมมอง 15110 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've modified this bridge by adding Atlas bridge piers to both sides, I've added rail joiners to the bridge track so that it doesn't open or close, and I've filed down the rough edges, and aligned it the best I could. I still have several engines that can't go over the bridge. This is one of my 2 mainlines, so the bridge has to go.
EMD F7 Santa Fe pulling Santa Fe passenger cars
มุมมอง 47610 หลายเดือนก่อน
I spent a few hours trying to get my PA1 to pull these passenger cars, but it doesn't have enough traction to pull these 4 cars up and over the bridge. Still testing all of my engines on the various tracks, and going in both directions.
Testing the Santa Fe EMD F7
มุมมอง 32310 หลายเดือนก่อน
Most of the buildings and structures are on the layout. This isn't all of the buildings, and I'll probably end up changing some things around. I this F7 was bought in the 1990's. and is brand new in box.
Testing the Atlas turntable and stall tracks
มุมมอง 34910 หลายเดือนก่อน
I use two Railpower 1370 power packs to control the track and trains, which includes the turntable and stall tracks.
Testing the Alco PA1
มุมมอง 1.4K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
After testing all of my track sections, I could finally put away my tools and clean off the train table.
Impressive. So many cars for 1 engine
@@davidgould3798 Thanks Dave
fun trains
That's alot of train for one F-7A (1,500 hp), but it's pulling good...
That Mantua F7 runs really good. It's only running at half throttle in this video, no need to set any speed records with it. I would love to have an A-B-A lash-up with a powered B unit, but I already have to add a long enough spur or siding track to park this long train on.
Looks great! You've done a great job! I love it! ❤
Thank you
That looks amazing! It has come along so much since the last video I saw! I love it! ❤
Thank you
These look like the Tyco model trains I had as a kid in the 70s.
To the best of my knowledge, my dad bought these items in the 1990's. I don't think he bought anything used, but I'm sure some of this stuff was new old stock, possibly from the 1980's or earlier.
Nice collection
Thank you
Very Nice Layout!
Thank you! Still a long way to go, but having lots of fun.
I got an identical model to yours! It's not often that you see these old Bachmann 2-8-0 models in good running condition.
I agree, and I was very happy to see this one running after so many years in storage. I have another 2-8-0 Bachmann Great Northern from the same era that ran a lap or 2, then stopped running.
Son it is looking great. Thank you for sharing it was me. ❤
Thank you!
Totally retro! Super fun.
💞Wow🤍💛💛🤍💛💛💛💛
Very nice layout and collection.
Thank you!
Very nice and thanks for sharing. Dave
Thank you!
Looks like a very nice layout!!! Like your PAs…
Thank you. Those PA's are older Athearn blue box engines from the 1990's, and they run great.
Looks great Todd! I love the Siesta Motel, the pool, & the little lawn chairs! So cute! 😁
Thank you
Looks Great Son
Thank you
Great layout
Thank you. Next is all the landscaping, building the waterfront, adding 2 wooden trestle bridges, painting the roads where the 3x5 cards are, and wiring the buildings
Looks like a lot of fun and a lot of snap track. Also it looks like you have a brass and steel track mixture. nice layout-looks really good though. Have fun.
Thank you! My dad had mostly brass track and some nickel silver track that he bought in the 90's. I've also added some nickel silver track that I bought recently for my track expansion projects. 80-90% of this model railroad stuff is from my dad's 1990's collection, and it has been my goal to use as much of it as I can. He did have some old steel track, but I decided not to use it. The steel track and some of the brass track seems to be out of spec and is causing derailments. I'll check it as soon as I get my NMRA track gauge.
nice running session! i like the track plan and era :)
Thank you!
Great track plan!
Thank you!
Looking good
Thank you!
Looking really good Todd. 🙂
