    That’s a really helpful video - working on which bits I need to adapt my current setup closer to this. I’d really like to know exactly what the configuration of bolts / shackle / blocks is in the assembly at the base of the gooseneck that anchors the outhaul and downhaul. That’s really neat but I can’t quite see how it’s done 🙏

    Here is a product opportunity for the watch manufactures; sink watches with short wave blue tooth or induction, or a wire.

    Great to see the adjustability improvements. Have sailed Contender class since 1973, and it evolved all of these controls by 1975, but all out to both rails to reach from the trapeze. Sailed the O’Day championship in 1975 and loved the Laser simplicity but the rigging back then was too primitive. The controls (and learning to set them for different conditions) adds to the challenge of racing. The vang mastnbase block is an impressive design. What Contenders were criticized for back then was just control line evolution like this video depicts.

    Sail Laser from late 80's to early 2000...Seriously from 1991 to 1997...Championships etc... Some win...!Sail Vaurien, Snipe, 470, but the Laser since I was a kid, started in 74 , Optimist of course... No "trainers" whatever, after pratical lessons "take it and go alone"...! And IOR boats, Offshore.. Etc.. Still got my old Laser... Very easy to put everything in 15 minutes or less... No complications... Some things was forbidden that time... Go to sea with force 4 or 5 and fast like a windsurf... Once won one, and finger up OK... In a National Championship in 1992, strong winds in Lagos, Portugal, the regatta was not canceled, 60% didn't go out, I go (had 73 Kgs... With a diving belt for weight...) to make some points, and after upwind, rounding and planning surfing, saw a much old guy shouting and thumb up with the ride...He just had one strong leg...! Great life lesson and Great reggata, 5 to 6 force... Saw him onshore, talking, he was Scottish... No hard feelings, but this video is the opposite of a real Laser... So many "shit"... Time, later will come... A Snipe, or 470 is a drag... About 40 minutes to putt all the things, mast, tunings etc... No pacience... Nowadays they complicated the tuning of a simple Laser.. Regards👍🎸

    These people look like hacks! Why does no one, except a few use a cam cleat for the main sheet? And how the hell do these clowns manage to capsize in such light air? How about pinching or release the mainsheet instead? Lol!

    • @finnbalchin961
      @finnbalchin961 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Barely anyone in modern dinghy sailing uses cleats for the main sheet bud. And the guys who capsized in the one very light scene clearly weren’t the worlds greatest sailor, I’m sure every beginner has made a mistake like that. I’m an experienced dinghy sailor and even I still capsize in the light sometimes. So don’t call someone a hack because they do something differently to what you do.

    • @chadrew6
      @chadrew6 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@finnbalchin961 That's simply not true and would be incredibly inefficient.

    • @finnbalchin961
      @finnbalchin961 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chadrew6 Well for a regional rep dinghy sailor, and having have sailed about 20 different types of dinghies, I'd like to think that I know what I'm talking about. Only 1 dinghy I've sailed has a cleat for the main sheet, and it barely gets used. This is because a good sailor is constantly trimming their sail non-stop, making small adjustments to adjust flow through the leech. So actually, not many small boats come with them installed.

    • @chadrew6
      @chadrew6 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@finnbalchin961 I think you're wrong. A good cam cleat will allow for plenty of adjustment. I am a past national junior champion, Atlantic coast champion and district champion in the Jet 14 class and I've never seen anything but a Laser without cam cleats. It would be incredibly tiring and inefficient to not have one not to mention that you'd lose a lot of boat speed from sloppy accidents with holding the sheet continually. Going upwind there is very little need for adjustment and any downwind adjustments can be made while using the cam cleat.

    • @boltonmerlin
      @boltonmerlin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chadrew6 You are out of touch Chad. The fact that you said also going upwind there is little need for adjustments is an indication of your racing ability.
