​@@AlexHendriks-v3w That volley costed us did cost us 9 shots... but those nine shots give some damn good value. I am a strong believer in these drill volleys. The environment you would create when you do a volley is a sort of competition (recall landsman trainings when the trainer would time you) so you would try to achieve the most optimal reload speed to improve your technique with respect to the position of your guns, ammo box, powder barrel and any obstacles in the way. This is VERY beneficial to ratings. As a gunnery Officer I would mostly watch the others and see who would reload last. I would set this little drill as the sort of "benchmark" of my gundeck. Whichever section of the gundeck reloads fastest I would consider it (with reference to personal experience with each gunner, mostly trust built from my own witness) the strongest section. Again, usually the foremost guns would be the more experienced since most gunnery officers including myself post more senior gunners to the fore. As I've said, the volley helps with technique, since reloading FAST usually means you will need muscle memory. So you need to build it up before the confusion and tension of the engagement. (talk to anybody in gunnery and they will tell you it's muscle memory). Either way, the fight was really dragged out and if I'm correct Cruizers have a relatively low ammo capacity. Additionally we still had 55 roundshots in storage when the last US(Red squadron) ship started round delaying. The exotic circumstances led to us suffering an exotic problem lol. Ultimately, that volley is worth it. We shot 55 times at an enemy barely within range. Damage becomes really weak after a lot of range. If we were close, we would have finished with at least 20 shots in storage. (TLDR: 9 roundshots for better reload times in the first half of the actual battle is better than having 9 extra shots towards the end to basically deal 4% hull damage with one or two holes at best.)
