    Remember the countries that will hate wind are places like Russia who will comment on posts like these to sow doubt. This strategy is preparation for the future, the UK has a peak demand of like 50GW in the winter but the North Sea we control has a offshore wind potential of like 2000GW at current technologies. The uk in about 5-10 years is going to be a massive exporter of renewable energy to Europe…a Saudi Arabia of renewables and we are preparing to link to our biggest potential customer. Despite what people say on here, after the next five years of adjustment period is done the UK has a very bright future….we have something Europe cannot live without in huge amounts…and it’s not limited and won’t ever run out.

    There was talk about a artificial island to be built in Dogger Bank. It was said to be about 3-6 KM diameter, with a harbor inside, and a landing ramp able to accommodate larger jet planes. It would actually be a great place for a nice restaurant and hotel to serve both tourists and employees of the wind farm. The country that develops the island, would it be their territory? Could they tax the income then? Control the area within 12 miles from the island? It would make a great place to collect local power, then export via DC high voltage, so that frequency of the power systems in other countries will not be a problem.

      Knowing the Russian penchant for levelling down by making the rest of the world as poor and grim as Russia, a bit of defence capability might be needed more than a tourist destination.

    Jeez does this religion ever even think about how much damage they are doing to the world? or do they just think that by shipping all of the UKs carbon emissions overseas that that is a good thing? Oh and that is along with all of the large birds and bats they are killing with their windfarms, all of the damage they do to Marine wildlife, and when will they start thinking about the damage they will do (on top of the original damage by building this shyte) when these things reach the end of serviceable life? Then what do they do? Oh I know they bury them in landfill! Thus polluting the watercourses and anything else they contact!

    If this is a success story, I'd like to know what this group consider a failure? Wind is:- Intermittent and unpredictable. Asynchronous, i.e. it cannot support frequency, the most important factor for a grid system. Has no inertia, another important characteristic in keeping a grid stable. Needs sufficient alternative generating capacity to cover when wind produces Megawatts instead of Gigawatts. I believe there is about 25 Gigawatts of wind capacity coupled to the U.K. grid, at times only generating a few hundred Megawatts. Another myth is that batteries can compensate for intermittency, it cannot, the capacity required is far too great Requires significant infrastructure to couple it to the grid due to much of it being a long way from the grid. Has a short life compared to conventional generators. The ratio of materials against output generation is extremely high, i.e. individual generators are very small but require large structures to be built to support them. The media call them giants which illustrates the media's total lack of knowledge of things to do with power generation. Wind generators also require vast areas of land or sea. There is a practical limit as to how much wind can be connected to a grid and remain stable. The idea that they are equal to and can replace conventional generation is wrong. The consequence of the above and other factors means that wind is very expensive (Again forget what you read or hear in the media). This is evident by the unit electrical cost where wind is used. Like it or not, nuclear is Hobson's choice as non CO2 generation system. It is not a complete answer but significantly better than part time power.

    • @kaya051285
      @kaya051285 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your concerns have mostly been addressed with the newest offshore wind turbine technology The next Generation offshore wind turbines will achieve 61% capacity factor in wind speed areas with average 10m/s which is most of the North sea Yes they are intermittent but at 61% capacity factor they are very effective. By comparison the French nuclear fleet is 70% capacity factor Nuclear for electricity production is too expensive and too slow Nuclear could be used to heat homes and buildings. ~500 TWh used annually to hear building. 95% of that could be done via cheap heat only nuclear power stations @ 1/10th the cost of nuclear electricity power stations The two technologies used where they work best would be a great results 100GW of heat only reactors producing 500TWh of heat 100GW of offshore wind farms producing 500TWh of electricity Total UK demand in 2050 would be around 1500 TWh. 33% wind (electricity) 33% nuclear (heating) 33% oil/gas/coal (chemicals plastics aviation & some electricity etc) That would be a good outcome Can't easily get to zero fossil fuels as we make useful things form them like fertilizer and plastics The above would be a very low fossil fuel nation using 80% less fossil fuels per capita than today

    • @iareid8255
      @iareid8255 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I Kaya, I will challenge some of your figures. France's nuclear does not run at 70% or so but high 90, it's contribution to the French grid is around 70% (Down at the moment due to reactor outages) The big difference between conventional availability and wind availability si that teh forme ris largely under control as and when required, wind obviously is not. Percentage availability of wind is only a guide as to how effective it is against other renewable generators, you can't compare it to conventional plants. 61% is good but deteriorates with time and relatively quickly given the short effective life of offshore wind turbines. Again, conventional generators maintain their output and have a much longer working life. How can nuclear for heat be a tenth of nuclear for electrcity, that surely simply must be wrong?

    • @kaya051285
      @kaya051285 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iareid8255 Nuclear for heat is far cheaper because you get a lot more usable energy out and can delete a lot of parts The EPR reactor is 1.63 GW electrical but 4.3 GW thermal It takes 4.3 units of nuclear heat to generate 1.65 units of nuclear eletricity So if the nuclear eletricity costs £92.50/MWh then the heat is only costing you £35.50/MWh But of course if you are only generating heat there is a lot of stuff you can delete to save on money. None of the electrical generation side. One of the heat rejection 3km underground tunnels out to sea. No expensive grid substations You remove more than half the physical infrastructure so costs will be about half. The £35.50 becomes £17.75/MWh Also importantly you go from a 12 year build to a 4 year build this in itself reduced cost massively If you have to spend £10 billion today. With 7% interest that is £22 billion in 12 years time. If the same £10 billion is spent today but you cN start producing in 4 years it's £13 billion. £13 billion vs £22 billion just from starting producing in 4 years rather than 12. For the same initial cost you pay far far less interest if yiu can build sooner. This is another 40% off the cost So we go from £17.75 to £10.65/MWh Started at £92.50 for eletricity from a 12 year long nuclear pwoer stations. Turned into a £10.65 for heat from a 4 year long heat only station a 9x difference This doesn't even take into account that a heat only reactor works at lower temperature and pressure so would be simpler still. You can also design it far safer by simply having the whole reactor vessel sitting inside a pool of water such that the decay heat can be passively removed via the vessel walls. You wouldn't do this in an eletricity reactor as the efficiency would fall but for heat only the efficiency would stay the same I'm pretty sure heat can be generated for under 1p/KWh but even at 1p/KWh it would be cheaper than Natural gas burnt in a boiler The national heating grid would be expensive. But we pay around d 5p/KWh for Natural has heat in homes. So 1p nuclear heat and 3p to transport it via insulated pipes would be 4p all in. Far better than NG at 5p and no need to have an expensive boiler which needs replacing every 15 years and annual maintenance NucleR heat makes a LOT of sense

    • @kaya051285
      @kaya051285 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iareid8255 Question: Can the UK grid function with 50GW CCGT and 50GW offshore wind farms? Answer: Yes and it would produce 260TWh of Wind and 70TWh of Gas By comparison for nuclear it would be difficult to have more than 28GW nuclear So we would need 28GW nuclear and 22GW CCGTs The result would be 220TWh nuclear 110TWh gas. Worse than the offshore wind version Yes you can install more nuclear but each additional reactor would have to operate at lower and lower capacity factor defeating the 'nuclear works at 90% CF argument' The French Fleet operates at 70% and if you want a nuclear heavy grid you should do the calculations at 70% capacity rather than 90% therefore inflating coats from £92.50/MWh to £119/MWh by comparison newest offshore wind will produce at £40/MWh a third of the cost

    • @kaya051285
      @kaya051285 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iareid8255 The 15MW vestas units are 61% in areas average 10m/s speed which is a lot of the North Sea But they are rated 67% capacity factor in areas 11m/s average speed which is a lot of North & North West of Scotland Floating wind turbines in slightly faster wind areas will get 67% vs the French nuclear Fleet at 70%...... As for your assertion that they don't last long. They are rated for 25 years and importantly the blades and Generator make up less than 10% of the cost of an offshore wind farm. The other parts will likely last far longer than 25 years. We have offshore oil platforms now 50 years old I'm sure wind farms will also be around for 50 years with maintenance

    I have a few comments and observations that I would like to make, first, if climate change is so important why is this the first up to date forum that I have found ? Most of them are months, even years old. Why is it so important to the UK seeing as we only produce one percent of carbon? To my mind there is a glaring, part solution that has not been mentioned. At this moment I am not saying what it is. To me it is so obvious that I want to see if anyone can figure it out. So, I will be proved right or wrong.🤔🤔🤔

    At Coptrz we value the importance of the renewable energy industry and the rate at which it grows every year. We understand the time and labour which goes into inspections of wind and solar farms, which is why we want to offer our A2 CofC training course free of charge to all workers across the UK to assist this process. Drones have an important role to play in the future of wind and solar power as the industry continues to grow. Drones are an asset to any inspection kit as they work to assist faster, safer and cheaper inspections. Drones offer the visual solution for workers. In doing so, this minimizes downtime of turbines and solar panels and allows workers to complete a higher amount of inspections in a day. With the likes of big energy companies such as EDF Energy incorporating drones in their toolkit, it is only a matter of time before most renewable energy companies include drones to assist their inspections. To help support the recovery and expansion of the UK drone industry, we are offering our A2CofC drone training course free of charge. At a time of great need, it’s universally available to anyone. The link to the free training course -> www.coptrz.com/shop/cpd-training-courses/a2-certificate-of-competency-a2-cofc/

    Quote:- "On the 7th of March 2019, the UK Government published the Offshore Wind Sector Deal, a deal that paves the way for the offshore wind industry to install at least 30GW by 2030, supporting UK businesses to increase productivity and helping them compete on a global scale." Wind power is a disadvantage to industry and productivity as it pushes up the cost of electricty substantially. This'30 Gwatts' is only about 12 Gwatts on average and is very expensive, intermittent, destabilising and is not the way forward. Quite why the government thinks it is a good way forward is due to picking poor advisors, with little real knowledge of power generation. The general aasumption by the general public and politicians alike is that wind is comparable to other forms of generation, which it most certainly is not! In engineers parlance it is carp. There is only one practical source of low carbon generation and that is nuclear but due to misinformation by the green blob is not politically acceptable. The reality is that it is the only way at present.
