My sister used to this church.The intro abd interlude were too long, noisy and cluttered with unnecessary notes that were probably not on the musical page.
This Skinner organ and it's trumpets and reeds were made by a master organ builder

Noisy, too much noise.
Always seems to be the case with the organ at St John the Divine. I find it utterly horrendous. The organ is outrageously over sized…as seems to be the case with many American Churches for whatever reason. This is just not pleasant.
Echoing the last post, what in God’s name did the illustrious leadership at SJTD do with the pews?? And to replace them with cheap, ugly chairs that look like they belong at a beach?? As a cradle Episcopalian, I find this trend to be mostly pointless, ugly

The church is used for many and varied situations. The pews get in the way of that

Those pedal reeds on that instrument are so POWERFUL!!!!!!
Could be a full pedal build of 16’, with a nice 32’ Bombarde. The upper work sounds so very full and sparkling with grand foundation stops and a crowning of a mixture of some sort. Wish I was more familiar with the stoplist of that organ. So very potent!
Powerful and utterly atrocious. Why this idiot is using 32ft reeds in the opening verse to O Come All Ye Faithful I don’t know… It’s not pleasant as is the case with most services from St John the Divine

Why would you feel the need to dump on someone else who is playing as he/she feels led to play at a given moment in a given space with a given instrument? Whatever happened to: "if you don't have something good to say, better to say nothing at all." If you are unhappy, don't try to make everyone else feel just as bad as you. I enjoyed the video.

That was great work on the part of the choir and congregation! This is a difficult setting to sing.

Woman priest doesn't know how to swing a thurible properly. No decent seminary training, no doubt.
I consider this to be one of the finest pieces of service music written in the last 50 years. It's just a shame that we can no longer use it in the Catholic church, since our texts were revised in 2011.

Yes the (previous) remarks re the Acoustics of this space are certainly with foundation. I'm a linguist / historian etc my Dad was a top Acoustics professor and journal editor in chief, lead designer of the concert hall at Southampton University, pianist graduate of Juilliard. I have an ear for musical sound, I believe : the acoustic is truly unusual and good. Again well recorded plus good camera work!!

That first verger in the procession, absolutely the first in line, that would be a nerve wracking job.
Wow, the sound coming from that organ is awesome - so majestic. I wish I could have heard the choir, but the organ was just too loud.
The unstable tempo at the final verse ruined this beautiful hymn and the tremendous descent.
I heard that too but it was reverb. Notice that the descant didn’t match the singing in the procession. Common in big cathedrals.
I understand what you mean, but compare the tempi between the first verse and last verse, you can hear that the tempo of the final verse was wobbling around quite a lot to be honest.

It looks like the CHOIR has been "padded" with non-singers, so many in the professional NOT SINGING!!!! Actually, I was told there were CLERGY representatives from many congregations throughout the NY - NJ Diocese because of the Ordination - Setting Apart of a New Bishop.

A wonderfully appropriate hymn, and loooong for a very long procession. But unfortunately, it is not known to a lot of people. Those who DID know it were singing it with a certain delight, as one does not have the opportunity too often! Wonderful to see various Christian denominations present, other than those of the Anglican Communion.
