Toast of the Town or Burnt Crumbs - Review: ToasterBall for Nintendo Switch
In our first review in several months, Alastair delves into the eccentric world of Toasterball, a physics-based multiplayer sports game where toasters transform into athletes, and pandemonium ensues with every goal. Is it the toast of the town, or just burnt crumbs

    I love/hate orbit industries, its mostly a gem for any space geek, management enthusiasts-yet, it always felt, its never possible to build a visual homogeneous space station, while the visuals are actually good, design wise there are important parts missing or they are way too late available, also, the UI is terrible except for the Modul-Connection part. The controls are clunky, its 2/3 guessing positions, even the position of the space station is sometimes confusing, a reset option of the pov would've been so easy, all these kind of luxuries are missing wich is a shame since the switch has a touch screen, using the touchscreen functions have would've solve the majority of the handling problem. Other than that, the music and voice and sound effects are very nice, maybe a few samples more in radio chatting wouldve been nice, because you cleary hear the loop after half a minute, so you will hear the same radio chat dialog 22 times in 2 minutes, wich can get annoying, but somehow its subtle enough to get trough. All over its a time eater beast, progress is slow and mediative, for me, it missed some huge opportunities, still love it tho, because everything else is made so well.

    I'm a fan of the original Spelunker having grown up with this game. I have been sooo far into the original game that the keys were invisible and you had to shoot up a flare standing where the keys sit to collect them. I have no idea what level that was because it didn't tell you. But I LOVE this remaster and have been looking for it for years. I even bought Spelunky and mastered that. All the time wondering where Spelunker was and why no one remembered this awesome game. I only recently found this because I bought my daughter a switch and found it on the e store. It's amazing. You are so right tho! Pitfalls were way easier to see in the original. BUT you have NO CLUE where you might be able to bomb a wall for a hidden gem or tapestry. But with the new hd remaster you can estimate that there may be one behind a wall because that wall looks different. Or thicker where it doesn't seem necessary for it to be that way and could be hiding something. THE INVISIBLE ITEMS ARE EVEN THERE! The ones you only find because you jump in a certain spot. Speed potions, the old hexadot that gives random rewards like extra men and to my absolute astonishment, they added the Mario star power. I love this. Great remake. Holding true to the original in every way.

    I just finished the game…I completely agree with all of your points. I will give them points for some originality in the mechanic (especially the blue chain ability and red/blue bridge and jump pad repulsion) and art-style, but everything else about it just falls short for me. I probably won’t replay. The “Rubik’s cube” type symbol puzzles near the end just got tedious and didn’t feel like I could plan a satisfying solution…I was just pressing buttons until something worked. I’d much rather play a free game I just found called “playback loop”…worth checking out!

    Great review. RRO over AOR any day. Smooth 60 fps on Switch and at $6, definitely worth picking up.

  • @Zac15
    @Zac15 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    AoR's style doesn't translate perfectly onto the switch but in a handheld format I still prefer it's visuals to this games attempt at realism. It looks better but it ends up more claustrophobic as a result. AoR's simplicity allows it to showcase these amazing vistas where you get glimpses of what's to come that are really beautiful. AoR reminds me of when I was a child playing with my hotwheels in my sand box and I love it for that. But that's all a matter of personal taste. The difficulty thing I don't get. I managed to breeze through the career on the normal difficulty and have been having fun with custom rallys on skilled difficulty. Are people trying to play without assists or something? The switch triggers are on/off switches, leave the default assists on or turn them down slightly as they tend to cause understeer. Maybe its just I've spent a life time playing various arcade/simcade racers?

    I wish Konami would get off there buts and stop being lazy and give gamers what we been wanting from a game developers how about they create a 3d open world like Zelda tears of the kingdom but in Castlevania design where vampires and werewolfs skeletons bats witches goblins and in the center of it all a Belmont who is at the end of game is given a option to be Dracula we all can remember Simon's quest it would be a number one seller for the company and make it for the Nintendo switch console I am 100% sure with in a few mouths of release konami's company would see a Spike in sales Nationwide and put them back on the map but they have given up on us games and this is what we are left with lack of vision and ambition to create and no imagination to create the next big thing

    0:24 here we have just a black screen for 10 seconds 0:49 Well I certainly hope you enjoyed the fishing, since that's practically the WHOLE game... Care to elaborate on the fishing mechanics you enjoyed, or give any details.... no? Great job. This review is entirely obsessed with superficial nonsense, I guess we can only HOPE that there is more to the game than superficial nonsense, as that's all we get to hear about from this lackluster review. I give this review a 1/10... practically useless waste of time. Thanks I hate it.

    Its funny when a person is so clueless about How hard it is to drift around a rally circuit at 90 mph that they call art of rally “stupid” and Rush rally origins “a proper rally game”. Get a fucking clue man. Rush Rally is a fun game but it would be better if it crammed in true rally physics. Rush rally flatters your rally driving self esteem, but it is wearing very thick boxing gloves when it comes to the physics. It would be killer if rush rally devs and art of rally devs got together and made a new rally game with rush rally visuals and art of rally physics. But if you have a single gram of self respect you should get art of rally and shut up until you get good at it. And by the time you are good at it you will understand what sort of ubermen pro rally drivers are. Yes of course the visuals in art of rally arent as good as rush rally but i suspect thats bc the amount of computing power going into the physics engine calculations is so massive that there isnt much room left for detailed graphics. Think of it this way: rush rally= Diddy kong plane racing with realistic graphics. Art of rally= Flight simulator 2022 with ok graphics. Diddy kong racing might make me feel like im a good pilot, but id rather LEARN what its actually like to fly a real fucking airplane. Get the picture mate?

    I agree with you and great review. Some of the bad things about this game were epic bad for me. There’s many minor things that have a huge negative impact on the experience. An example: I need to know how much mana my Lord has at all times.. The game does not give me a way to look during the map Roam. You can only look when you’re in the process of initiating a battle. Sloppy things like that, make me downright offended. “Did they play their own game?” Another example: keywords don’t always have their definitions conveniently around. I’ll be in a position where the game will be talking about a keyword, but I have no way to know what that keyword means. Another example: this strategic map has a zoom that is unacceptably shortsighted. I need to make smart decisions, but there is no significant zoom out. These types of games need good zoom out. Add that to the fact that the mini map is 🤮. It’s very difficult for me to get a feel for my characters orientation in the world the way they have it.. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️hailtrump

    It's a very chill game! The whole aspect of programming your own AI is really cool and the cutesy graphics are a delight, but I did find myself wanting a little bit more in terms of purpose and wishing the programming was a *little* bit more straightforward, which made me go back to Factorio. Luckily there seems to be a sequel that takes care of both things, I should check it out 🤔

    Art of Rally player, PC (Steam). Some of the issues of the Switch port are… Glaring, to say the least. I don’t play it, but the simple fact that the Switch doesn’t have analog triggers might dampen the somewhat-sim controls of art of rally. The difficulty curve might be exaggerated as a result, as I even tried my Switch Pro controller on the game and found the throttle and brake response difficult to manage compared to the more fluid analog triggers of my Xbox controller. You really have to fiddle with the sensitivities. I also wholeheartedly agree on the disconnect between the trailers and actual game. As much as it hurts to say, Funselektor should have used a lower graphics setting to record the trailers to better represent the power of the Switch, and it feels almost misleading. The game can be beautiful, but the Switch is not the console for it. I highly suggest you try and get the game on PC or a different console, with an Xbox or PlayStation controller, and give it another go. It’s not too hard to pick up. Unless you go for the Stratos, Renault 5, Ferrari, or Mazda RX-7. Those are difficult cars to use. Otherwise, there are people who have gotten top 10 leaderboard times with even a keyboard. I assure you Art of Rally has a curve as a somewhat sim-like experience, but that the Switch port’s shortcomings certainly don’t help, and do not represent the PC version.

    • @vladimirtomin8223
      @vladimirtomin8223 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Played Art of rally on PC and it is still very bad game. Even Lonely mountain downhill is better both off-road and racing game. I'd even go as far as saying physics of driving in LMD is better. It's only personal opinion of course but if you didn't like AOR on The Switch chances are you won't like it on PC either. Very overhyped game, again, in my opinion.

    Iv definitely seen or read about this game before it sounds interesting , I would definitely like to try it, great review buddy how much does this fetch for on the shop ? I’m assuming it’s digital only . I like the fact it’s done in 4 hours some great games like fire watch are only a four hours or so
