That's definitly the timing, I had the exact problem. If you wait for a bit the exhust manifold will be glowing red like lava red.
main timing ignition timing? would this be a sign of too advanced timing?

I think it's the vacuum advance on the distributor

Actually shes probably right, or youre echoke is stuck open, but your throttle body plates still open so confused as that was my issue. I bet you its a clogged idle jet though as its only idling on throttle jet
they're at a higher altitude so the times are lower
on my b2200 I simply removed every single vacuum line, plugged every open port. take out all the emissions junk and a quick and dirty rebuild kit. runs like a top.

The fact that it sounds better when you dump a bunch of fuel in it is a dead givaway. Ps your timing sounds fine

I feel VERY STRONGLY that your problem is a simple leak in the carb or intake gasket. To check this take a can of propane like they use for soldering copper from lowes and move it all around the carb side of the engine while it is tunning. If im right when you get by the leak (or missing vaccume line) you will hear an obvious change in the idle. There are like thirty vaccume lines coming off the intake if one falls off or if your gasket is toast it pulls too much air in and sounds just like that
try changing out the accelerator pump in the carb..

Bad supercharger haha no just kiddin sounds like ur timings off or it's getting to much fuel if non of that works of be looking at the spark plugs and and see what they look like then do a compression test if ur compressions low it could be ur piston rings are worn
both cars should be running faster times....
