oh wow ive heard of this kind of service in catholicism but havent seen it like this in orthodox church yet till now. the priest usually faces the altar throughout most of the service. pretty interesting, its supposed to be for focusing more on God. cool stuff.

I’m not getting anything out of this. At least a Protestant service has a message I can understand. I don’t see how chanting can teach me, uplift me or make me a better man.

when you know the history of the Christianity, and understand the events of the Liturgy you will truly realise all that has been lost in the West.

Sermons were not the most important part of services when Christianity originally started. The main purpose of the service is to worship God and hear the writings of the epistles and Gospels. Sometimes, sermons are given, but it was not the main focus of the gathering for ancient Christianity, and thus Orthodox Christianity today.

The liturgy is not about you, its not about what message can you get out of it, its about giving glory to God.

I am a Lutheran and I love this liturgy. Most protestants don't undrestand the the meaning and beauty of the divine liturgy because they are orientated to worship as human centered rather than God centered.

So it is a lot! That’s for sure! This is our church service/mass It contains a lot of praying and preparing ourselves and the area for communion which we believe is the body and blood of Christ You’ll see them bring the big book out a few times that holds the Holy Bible which is why it has a special procession The other procession is for the communion Think of it as similar to a catholic mass lots of up and down standing kneeling and praying

In any case the epiphony "Lord have mercy" / "Kirie eleison" is repeated countless times, throughout the Liturgy. Not to mention the "Glory is to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit for now and forever and to the ages of ages" and the commons Alleluias and Amens.

no other experience of hearing this hymn sung in this arrangement can ever make me feel the spiritual sentiment that this gives me. I listened at my parish here and cringed. It was painfully badly sung. I know God listens to the heart, and the man who sang may have sung with his heart, however, his voice to human ear did not emit that to us. Lord have mercy on me for feeling as I do, but only this allows me to rest and contemplate the message like this.

@@ストリアン Thank you, I've been looking at Orthodoxy for a while and it seems to me to be the most unbroken church in doctrine and tradition I've been trying to be as patient as possible to make sure that what I'm doing is the right decisions and not rush anything. @@empirical_blade6926 You are more than welcome. Yes, Orthodoxy is the most unbroken church in doctrine, dogma, and tradition. All of our theology has, in fact, preserved tradition, which works to retain the effectiveness of supernatural revelation which has culminated within and has been fulfilled by the Person of Jesus Christ. This is why, in Orthodoxy, no one will witness absurd dogmatic formulas. In a mere glimpse at the West -- especially Protestantism -- it is not difficult to see why churches are losing faith within this supernatural revelation of Christ (HIs miracles, and His teachings) thereby changing their dogmatic attestations. In Protestantism, for decades, have they doubted the supernaturality of the human Christ, because they have also excluded the traditional teaching of Christ's deification in human flesh, which -- and this must be considered -- only us Orthodox believe. The same applies for Roman Catholicism. I am glad you are looking towards Orthodoxy. There is no need to rush it, but know that the Lord Jesus Christ is present with you through the Holy Spirit, whom He has sent and whose presence He has made more "present" than ever after His ascension to Heaven. You are in my prayers. Don't be afraid to reach out (I could try to help if I can, so you can also reach me by email if you'd wish), but your first step that must be considered is going to your nearest Orthodox Church and speaking with the parish priest there who, is not just a minister for mere baptism, but a teacher appointed by God for regular laymen, and people like you. Christ bless and help you remain steadfast!
