Explaining Critical Depth - J.J.Metcalfe & Son Ltd
Mike Metcalfe from J.J.Metcalfe & Son explains critical depth and the issues caused by subsoiling too deep.
Understanding critical depth can drastically change your farming practice. By recognising critical depth during subsoiling or other in-soil activity you can save costs through wear parts, fuel, tyres and transmission.
By subsoiling too deep and running below critical depth, you can actually do the opposite of what you are trying to achieve and cause further compaction. This leads to a reduction in crop yield and in turn profit as well as environmental issues such as rain run off and soil erosion.
