2025 Maui Oceanfront Marathon Race Experience
#marathonrace #marathon #mauimarathon
Showing my race experience of the Maui Oceanfront Marathon 2025 in Maui Hawaii. The peace was on January 19th 2025 on a Sunday. Start time for marathoners is 5 AM however they do allow others to start at 4 AM if they need the extra hour.
Finish time 3:13:41. Finishing 8th overall of almost 300 marathon participants.
Overall a decent race however a bit dangerous if you do not have a headlamp and are staying aware of the cars coming both directions as you run on the side of the road. The organization also has a half marathon, 6 mile, and 5k races.

    Thank you for this video. I am running the BMO this year. I am trying to decide if I should strategically pick up the pace on the down hills to gain some time & momemtum or just run at a consistent pace up or down the hills? Pulling it in a bit on the down hill portions. It wil be my 4th marathon, hoping to PB by 13 - 27 minutes depending on how I feel on the day & how my training has gone.

      That’s great. It’s definitely a preference how you like to race. Downhills at the later stage of the race are hard in your knees and hips and you feel the pain in your muscles at least for me. I try to catch my breadth in the downhill. Up hill is not as demanding in the muscles as far as pain but definitely harder on the lungs and fatigues so I take smaller steps. In all it’s what best works for you. Hope you enjoy it, races are lots of fun!

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! I actually wore some road running Nike shoes looking back at my pictures. The race organization says that regular road running shoes should be fine as the gravel is fine and should not obstruct your racing. That being said it depends how comfortable you are running on gravel. Carbon fiber not sure if it would be good use because it’s not paved. But use what you feel more comfortable with and not change too much before the race.

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      People usually bring their own small flashlights. There is a drop off after the tunnel to leave it. I used my phone into the tunnel. It’s much better if you run next to other people with light so it’s easier to see because the road is not smooth so watch your step in the tunnel

    • @donutwalkrun

      You can run any of those two with this race as long as you meet the race’s time per age and gender conditions. So if you meet the requirement by the time you finished you can. I used the twin cities marathon race to run Boston and Chicago.

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would consider something that is at least a bit higher than the ankle. Most of the race is on a trail with gravel. The only part that is not is the tunnel which is paved but even that has some gravel and there are pot holes and puddles. Careful to watch how you step in the tunnel, you can easily land on an awkward area and potentially fall.

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It is a downhill but the feeling when actually doing it doesn’t feel like much cuz it’s very slowly declining plus with all the dirt rock gravel for almost the entirety of the race, it doesn’t help going faster that much so for me feels as good as a flat surface on pavement.

    • @donutwalkrun
      @donutwalkrun 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can only speak for myself. If this is not your first race and have had a consistent training plan for a couple of months, I would keep the pace constant throughout that would match the finish time you are shooting for. Some people like to go all out the first half but lose steam and get a big negative split. Personally I keep track of time and the course elevation and try to hit time markers based on the mile I am in

    • @donutwalkrun

      Thank you! My strategy is usually to keep a constant ice throughout. I don’t like banking time. My splits are almost very even. Weight training helps to build muscle which helps have a faster metabolism. But in order to see your abs you need to lose weight. We all have abs but we need to be lean enough to see them. In my experience, losing weight while retaining muscle will show your abs. However this might require very low body fat which might not be sustainable. Good luck
