The pass (Passo di Manghen) is located in the northern part of the country, in the Dolomites mountain range, and connects the Fiemme valley and Sugana valley. This is the most southern paved pass above 2000 m in the Dolomites. The summit is home to a mountain hut known as Rifugio Passo Manghen. The road to the summit is called Strada Provinciale 31 (SP-31); it is 39.1 km long, running north-south from Cavalese to Borgo Valsugana. SP-31 road is paved but narrow and commercial traffic is prohibited. This pass feels like driving on a remote forestry road as it is mostly a narrow road through woods on both sides of the pass. Further up, the track becomes quite narrow, and you have to be careful with oncoming traffic. Up to the top of the pass, the road goes steeply uphill in numerous narrow curves and hairpin bends.
