Very much appreciate that Pullman said about importance of not planning, to allow story to lead and to reveal itself.. sounds like magic…
On the other hand, the authors who work like "gardeners", as opposed to "architects", include George RR Martin, who is running about ten years late with "The Winds of Winter". Every day I stand on a ladder outside his window, to ensure that his time is not spent frivolously.
