Hello mate. Just for your info, the 'pit' you walked over on the wooden floor at 4:51 would've been a drawbridge pit, the floor a counterbalanced drawbridge. The steps would've been steeper too when the castle was built in 1180 - 88. The room at 5:15 was a guard room. Also there would have not been a roof over the forebuilding steps when first built, enabling defenders to drop boiling water, hot sand, quick lime or rocks on attackers heads. The castle was commissioned by Henry II and the initial cost was around £6,000....a fortune in the 12th Century. A comparison in todays costs would be like staging the Olympic Games in your back garden. Oh, and you're correct about how they slept sitting propped up in bed to avoid the Devil thinking they had died and therefore entering their mouths and stealing their souls.
