Excellent video!
Gerard! we just raced together hahaha.. it's Darren! I am subbed to your channel already :))
@@darrenvandit ah, you were the B cat rider towing the C cat bunch. :) Well done! Why did you subscribe to my channel two weeks ago btw? For the outdoor rides or Zwift rides?
@@GioFietst Zwift rides my friend! I enjoy watching & supporting others... haha yeah, that was me trying to make a huge catch from far away... managed to catch everyone by the end of Itza Climb.. hammered myself to the ground.. I streamed the race too :D
that was a massive effort on lap 1 buddy.. maybe should have left it for last lap? gg nevertheless, great attempt! Subbed to your channel btw :)
@@darrenvandit thanks, yes I normally never do this kind of solo attack, as my FTP is too low for that, but I thought let's give it a shot. But unfortunately too many people were pulling on that Main street climb, so after that I knew I was never going to win
great vid - how did you work out the diff to the broom wagon? I started from last pen after last minute mechanical right at the start (not fun) Started well but tunny issues drained me on the Couliolle - basically rode up the whole thing next to the broom wagon after I had to stop for ages to settle stomach before the Colmiane. Was having a lovely cold beer at foot of Couliolle when the bloody thing went past - was brielfy happy before having to jump on the bike before I finished it
Thank you! Page 18 of "Road Book L'Etape du Tour" (you can google it) has the "last rider" times which is basically the broom wagon schedule to pass. On page 19 of this road book it shows the main cut off times being enforced (that's where a lot of the "broom wagon" busses were parked). The "last rider" timetable has 50 locations, so I looked up my own passage on each of the 50 locations and then extrapolated the difference between the broom wagon and myself.
@GioFietst ah - I hadn't paid any attention to these as was due off in SAS11 - but after Di2 decided to stop working just as we started moving forward all my timings went out the window - the delay getting going & delay at top of Braus weren't very helpful to us at the back - next time I do it (if ever unless they do more of a loop route) I'm just going to lie about my time as loads of others did & started off much earlier
@@nobbycycles but you did finish it in time? Officially the cut off time was 7:36 PM at top of Col de la Couillole, but I noticed people finished as late as 8:15 PM. I don't mind starting in grid 15/last pen as it forced me to don't take long breaks (which I normally do 😅)
@@GioFietst yeah finished OK in the end - not entirely sure what time - sometime between 6 & 7 in the end - think about 6.30
My long break to try and feel human again cost me about an hour at least which was annoying to say the least. Long day out - especially getting back to Nice by bus & not getting back til after 2am - hence why this will probably be my last Etape unless the logistics work better in future
Thanks for sharing. Great to look back and relive the pain lol
Yes this was a really hard one, being a C rider. I did the West - European Zwift Racing League Final a week earlier (Cat C, Div 1), and I didn't expect it but this DRS race felt just as difficult to me!
That final climb was a killer for all of us and you did well to get back into the pack after the viaduct
Thanks! You were the guy who dropped at km 20.2? Did you have a disconnect? After the Aquaduc KOM it was a close call for me; I thought I wouldn't make it, but then found the legs for a final push
@@GioFietst No that wasn't me. I came about 20th
Thanks for sharing
Cool intro! I may have to pick your brain at some point on how you do that.
Nice!!! 🙂

Sympa ! Je suis inscrit pour 2024 et grâce à toi, j'ai eu un avant-goût ! Merci et bravo !
Have fun in the Netherlands. I am going the other way : I have registered for L'Étape du Tour in France next year
Nice Race 😊😊
Lol
Great :)
That storm at 2:36!
Yeah, it happened at the start of the last hill that day. It was one hour before sunset, but it got dark quickly. I rushed back to the nearest town to find shelter for the thunder and rain and had to be picked up by some of the other guys. ☺☺
Well raced, I left it a bit late for the sprint as others went early. 👍
Yes; well raced by you too. I know I didn't have a chance with all the stronger sprinters, so I tried to attack in lap 2, but unfortunately we didn't get away with the 4 of us (Nundal, Johnson, you and me). I was already happy being in the front group at the finish line, but was too cooked to sprint.
@@GioFietst yes the end is always a sprint. It's the climbs I hate but luckily this one had very few
Too many disconnects for me tonight. Started out the pens on my own. Funny watching your stream as I scorch off into the distance. Was hoping it would come back on but took till 18 minutes. Good FTP workout. Great racing as always 👍
Well raced Kev. I noticed you were very strong during the race as you sometimes seemed to have power input and the next moment was passing the group by. Almost like you did the race in Ben Healy mode. Well done, I'm a decent sprinter but zero chance vs you
Strong effort Gerard
Thank you Jon! To my surprise I even got upgraded to cat M5 :| I didn't even think that was possible lol. Good luck in the rest of the season in cat M6! There are some nice races coming up, like the one with Petit KOM and Keith Hill After Party which will suit you, I'm sure!
@@GioFietst Unfortunately for me I have 3.03 average now. But this was a heavy race so we’ll see what the next couple of races go :) I watched your stream whilst racing today to see what was going on on your end.
Nice to see you out there again 👍🏻
Yes great race; I was at my limits in the last 500 meters, but I had to decide: do my sprint now and close the gap to first 4, or wait. I decided to postpone my sprint with 300 meters, but unfortunately we (Green, you and me) didn't have the speed together anymore to stay in reach with the first 4. Perhaps should have sprinted with 400 meters to go, then we both might have been in the same group as the first 4! Don't expect me in the front next flat race though, but I will be there to try!
Hello and congrats on the W. I was 6s behind you at the top but that turned into 1m10s at the botton unfortunately. Gained 45s on the second climb and had my eye on you but you increased speed and held the 20-25s lead the rest of the way
Ahh nice to hear from you! To be honest; in the second climb I was mostly focused on Jo Hussey and Mark B as they seemed the strongest from the group and in the final km's I was only watching my heart rate and Mark B. So I didn't even notice you were coming closer. When I re-watched the race and the final rankings, I thought "Where did this J. Log guy come from suddenly??" Impressive race, I guess you were by far the best of those who missed the front group in the descend top!
Awesome 👍
Congratulations on the win, tough course. 💪
Thanks, yes it was a tough one!
Great race 👏 But say me...how to do for displaying the gap between each group of racers ?
Great video too, really enjoyed that race until Libby Hill 😂. Thanks for sharing I like your avatar it’s cool. It’s been a great season good luck on the last 2 races R Weaver (BRT)

You got me literally right at the end! I'll upload my race recording later.
Ahh that's a coincidence! I was surprised myself that I overtook both mr. Jonassen and you in the final meters! Looking forward to your point of view of the race as well :-)
@@GioFietst My excuse is that 1) it’s a hill, and 2) I’m 102kg :-)
@@gdjs101 Excuse accepted!
I am mr. Jonassen 😂 you fought right till the end and pipped me at the line - well played! Cool to watch the video 👍
@@ebzter Thanks; and yes I think I have never been in front of someone on such a narrow margin! My plan was in fact to pace myself at 250 Watt/300 Watt on Libby Hill before entering the cobblestones, to have some kind of sprint at the end. But looking back the video it seemed everyone of us was totally exhausted already :D
Well done gio!
Thank you! Did you race in this one as well? Nice to get the encouraging words, after my worst finishing position ever in a Zwift Race, haha :D
Great video! What is the gray box at the bottom?
It's a custom built script I made last weekend! If Zwift could provide real time data, it would be a really nice tool for broadcasts. More info here: forums.zwift.com/t/request-to-release-zwift-semi-public-api/575162
Thank you!!!
@@GioFietst How can I get this on my stream?!
Hey Adam, technically I could easily offer this script for everyone to use as a layover a OBS stream, but I cannot currently share it, because I want to get permission from Zwift first. The current script is using my personal login credentials, which I don't want to use for widespread Zwiftpower usage without Zwift's permission. Unfortunately I haven't received a reply yet from Zwift HQ!
