He uses that guitar in his Fear of the Dawn tour, it is modeled after Jaco Pastorius' bass, so it is fretless, but it has a radically different finish. I love Tom Verlaine! Having said that, Nels Cline RUINED Wilco for me. His playing would have worked in Sonic Youth. But Tweedy writes a song and Cline more or less just craps on it musically. His guitar playing is majorly annoying.

Practically there's almost no use, aside from creative freedom onstage and being able to run around without tripping over a pedalboard. Most of it seems to be Jack just wanting to experiment
