I live in Texas, and we certainly have some good BBQ. But, I had a chance to visit Santa Maria and the surrounding area. Went to The Hitching Post and a few others. Long story short, tri tip is my go to and I'm getting ready to start building my Santa Maria grill.

My dad used to take all three of his young boys down to Oceano and get in that freezing water so he could dig clams and pass them to us to take back to the station wagon, thus avoiding the game warden. That evening, clam cocktails with the "buttons" and chowder with the rest. That was pre dune buggy days. The FIFTIES.
