I heard early from LEE .. when Was young .. now I'm 86 .. .. Lovely jazz music .. still get me "kårar" - the word i Swedish .. lovel it .. the Bear from Roslagen in Sweden .. thanks !
Brian Blade, man. Oh my!
Killer playing! Brian Blade is freakin' amazing as always. Your bass work was sweet and the guitar tone is lovely.......
This is the coolest song I have ever heard.
Always loving your awesome performance Romain. Don’t lose that awesome percussionist and your blessed bass player! Again Romain you have made history with your awesome distinguished talented band members! Your fans love you very much Romain. Be good!
Brian Blade on drums and Jeff Denson on bass
No amount of money put pay you what you and your fine band are worth to the music world!!
Your awesome band never ceases to amaze me. Romain, you just don’t know what you have and possess in you fine fine band. You are a very talented musician and a fine awesome young man. God bless you and your fine, fine backup musicians. Blessed band!!!
Awesome distinguished drummer! Don’t lose him!! God bless.
Blessed anointed band. God richly bless you fine musicians
I love the album. Great playing by all. Do you ever release (or sell) your lead sheets?
Is Brian playing the Meinl Ajuch Bells? I guess so... I wanna know what all those percussion gadgets are
I love it. I was thinking about Buddy Rich... he'd be like... bla, bla, bla.cant you hit the drums like a man? Give me those sticks! 😅
That playing is not from earth, just galactic
In some ways (not that it’s ever about this) Florian Weber’s solo takes the plaudits. But the more I listen to Lee’s opening choruses (unaccompanied and with piano) the more I want to ‘score’ them as études. This is as magnificent a jazz performance as I’ve ever heard. Florian Weber will be considered among the handful of greats of the 21st century.
I'm glad you like it, Ralph.
@@JeffDenson Your Trio + Lee when you both sing is wonderful. Lee did an album with Ted Brown and John Abercrombie, Sound of Surprise, oddly not available on iTunes or Spotify. Lee sang on a modification of ‘Thingin’ (now a jazz classic) which Lee called ‘Singing’ and ended up collapsing in laughter so the track stopped. So I had reservations about Lee’s voice. Until I heard him with Dan Tepfer. In fact Dan, via a tweet disabused me of the thought that Lee wasn’t serious about singing. But I remember Warne Marsh getting students - fine musicians already - to sing eg. minor scales and intervals. Then your trio + Lee. God, that was *so* beautiful. I hope Minsarah continues. I feel you’re all so busy. Superb trio. But going back to your Trio, I’m 62. I heard Lennie and Lee on 78s when I was 5! From 1949, their breakthrough year I guess. For decades nobody was playing their work. I played alto. I learned all the lines. They must have heard of it. Round about the 1990s Lennie’s repertoire began getting played. Younger cats. A lot of European guys. Also Mark Turner. Music colleges like Berklee had ex-Lennie students teaching, eg. Dave Frank. Hal Galper taught in a similar way I think to Lennie and Warne. But hearing your trio and Minsarah playing those beautiful lines. There’s a lovely amateur recording of Lee Konitz Quartet at Tompkins Square Park, 2013. They play 317E 32nd St. The people - a lot elderly - are dancing and really having a ball. I thibk Lee was quite humbled. An elderly gent turns up, hangs his groceries on a security barrier and dances like Monk. Made me want to weep for joy. And at all those whose criticism of Lennie back then was so clichéd and just wrong. Anyway thanks for your response Jeff. I wish you peace and prosperity. Ziv and Florian and You. Right up there with Keith, Gary and Jack. Just blew me away. 🙏
@@RalphBrooker-gn9iv Thank you so much for your really kind words, Ralph!! I cherish the many years I was able to spend with Lee - I feel extremely fortunate for that! I learned so much from him...wow! I'm glad you know about our album "Jeff Denson Trio + Lee Konitz." That was a special project where we really focused on both of our voices as a central part of the project. This was the only recording where he really made that a central concept, and not just a brief moment, like on the recording that you mentioned. When Flo, Ziv, and I first started to play with Lee, he made us all sing a lot in the car when we were on tour - it was musical training. He'd make us trade fours, scatting over blues and tunes, and then correct us if we were off. It was great! I've always sang, and not many people knew that in my circle of jazz musician colleagues, mostly because I was really focused on playing bass, but once I moved to NY, I started singing again onstage, and Lee took notice of that. He asked me about my singing one day when we were on tour in Europe, and that night surprised me by announcing to the audience at the Bimhius in Amsterdam that I was going to sing - this was in the middle of song we were already playing!! hahaha Anyway, after that, we started talking about doing a project that would focus on the use of the voice as a part of the ensemble, and that's where the Jeff Denson Trio + Lee Konitz album concept came from. It was a departure from what we did with the Lee Konitz New Quartet. As to Minsarah, with Flo and Ziv, yes, that was a special project. We launched our careers together and played with that trio for a little over ten years. I'm grateful for those guys, and the experiences we had together, as a trio, as well as the years and experiences we had with Lee as his quartet. We all ended up going our separate ways to pursue our solo careers, which is why Minsarah ceased to be. We are all busy doing different projects, but who knows... Thank you again for such kind words, and your interest in my music with Lee and Minsarah, that made my day! 🙂
beautiful!
