Very nice, thanks. Can you use mink oil paste on natural leather before you dye it if it's a little dry?

Hello! Could you please help me? I'm going to recolour my shoes, but don't know what finish to use to fix pro dye paint. I consider to use fiebings saddle lac or leather sheen in spray - whst would be better?

Leather Sheen would be fine… but for shoes, just a neutral leather balm with atom wax would also be fine. Would not recommend Saddle Lac because it may crack.

Just remember, even though it says "oil" dye it is still an alcohol based dye....no oil.

What if my leather is already dyed but it's fading from sun exposure. My Indian Scout 60 tan leather saddle bags are fading. Pretty soon I'm going to need to touch them up.

Leather Dye us normally formulated for use on un-dyed/natural leather… However you can also use it on leather that has already been dyed. First you must remove any finish that is on the leather in order for the dye to “take”. The problem is that many times removing the finish is not a simple process, especially around seam , gussets and welts. If you have a finish, then you can use a de-glazer to start with. Then you should apply a Dye Prep. This will allow the dye to take more evenly. If the leather has been oiled, you should also use a dye prep before apply dye. When applying the dye, I would suggest using a cotton cloth to gently apply the dye…trying to touch up the more faded spots first. Another problem with trying to re-dye is getting an even finish… because some areas have already been dyed and may not need as much dye as other areas. Also, getting the correct color of dye will also be a challenge. Dye colors change depending on how the leather has been finished or oiled… so you will have to do some testing to see what color of dye to actually use to get your desired color. After you have re-dyed the leather, you will need to “seal” it with some kind of finish. Either oil, conditioner with wax or an aclylic finish. When exposed to the sun, the acrylic is best for fading, but the worst for the leather. Leather should be able to “breath” and accept oils and conditioners if the leather is going to last very long when exposed to the elements. But just oil /conditioners without an aclylic finish will make the leather more skeptical to fading from the sun. So, hopefully all this has been helpful. Re-dying any pre-dyed leather product is a challenge. You may be better off to just applying some conditioner to even out the spots and then going over the bag with neutral Leather balm with atom wax (the wax is a natural finish). Zacks Leather Balm is a good conditioner and Fiebings Atom Balm makes a good natural finish.
