What a bittersweet ending
Thank you for having this conversation and sharing it.
Breaking stereotypes one step at a time! Great conversation 👍! Love what you are all doing at your school! Like we used to say in the olden days-"Keep the Faith"!
I agree Matt. You have to teach students how to listen! I spent lots of time teaching that in elementary school! Teachers have to be comfortable enough to take time to focus on this skill!
At work we walk a line! We act white at work and black when we get home. That is how we have had to be in the professional world! It is a burden 😒!
Listening is a skill! Listening without judgement is what we need to learn!
In 38 years of working at BGE, working with thousands of people, there was only a handful of white coworkers who WANTED to talk about race and injustice. One of those guys also spoke up for me to get a job in leadership. He not only talked, he took action because he knew I had been passed over and he knew why! I tried to follow his example by writing support letters for black and white coworkers. That's where we are now. A big part of power in the Civil Rights in the 60's was white people marching beside black people. During the Freddie Gray protests one of my white friends was shocked and hurt by the names other white people called him while driving by. Bottom line-- talking helps, action changes.
